CNC for cutting plywood. Cutting plywood on CNC: tool selection and technology for cutting plywood sheets, price

Cutting plywood on the CNC is done using software that allows you to create a drawing on the sketch for further cutting out the contours with a laser. If it is impossible to equip the workshop with a similar machine, you can stock up on a cutter for cutting plywood. Among the common options, one can distinguish a format-cutting machine. Cutting plywood on CNC in price will cost from 500 to 5000 rubles, based on the thickness of the material: 3 - 30 mm.

The choice of cutters, relative to the material for manufacturing

High-speed option - steel products with a high content of tungsten. This allows them to acquire hardness and efficient processing of the material.

Carbide cutters for cutting plywood CNC. Details with two cutting edges spiral cylindrical with rounded corners are used for light finishing, precision work.

Milling cutters with inserted blades made of ceramic elements and diamond ensure precise processing. The use of prefabricated or brazed milling cutters allows for fine finishing operations.

Types of cutting plywood

  • Rectilinear. The peculiarity of a drawing or drawing is the predominance of straight lines and angles. A similar option is provided for preparing plywood for floor laying.
  • Curvilinear CNC cutting for plywood furniture. Artistic silt and design option is represented by the creation of curved lines from arcs of circles and ovals. They serve to create yacht hulls and car models, providing artistic beauty to architectural elements.
  • Mixed. In a combination of the first two varieties, the transition of straight sections in places is provided in complex curves.

If the goal is to make a complex cut, it is necessary to select an improved program for the implementation of drawing work.

Technology for cutting plywood sheets

The CNC machine for cutting plywood 3-6 mm ensures the use of laser equipment. The beam thickness of 190 microns (0.19 mm) provides clear and contrasting lines. The main difficulties of cutting are the heterogeneity of plywood. On the outer or inner part of the veneer sheet, defects are formed that have a higher density of wood.

Such places are poorly burned by the laser, which ensures the formation of marriage. If the laser is characterized by an emitter power of up to 180 W, it is adapted for cutting plywood with a thickness of 10 mm or more. Cutting plywood sheets is carried out at minimum speed. This affects the ignition of the material and the appearance of burning. Its removal is not always possible.

CNC milling machines do not affect the formation of burning. There are no limits regarding the thickness of the workpieces. Intensive milling reduces cutting time. Thickness of cutting tools (milling cutters) 2-6 mm. The CNC algorithm is designed to process layouts in such a way that the cutter does not go to those places where the gaps between the cut lines are smaller than the diameter of the cutter. This applies to internal corners or details. They come out uncut. This effect is called radius.

Attention! Milling plywood panels is rarely used to create miniature souvenir items.

Features of using a CNC milling and engraving machine

  • Figured and shaped cutting, engraving and 3D volumetric milling of materials of various types: solid wood, plywood panels, MDF, chipboard, fiberboard, etc.
  • What is the result?
  • Exclusive components for furniture products with three-dimensional (3D) artistic carving. Production of simple and complex facades, overlays for furniture.
  • Carved palisades, decorations for solid wood buildings and baths.
  • Figured architraves for windows and doors with a volume and through carving. Frames for mirrors, picture masterpieces and photo frames, carved panels, depictions of people and animals.
  • Components of fireplaces and billiard tables, bas-reliefs, candelabra, stair elements, plinths.
  • Souvenirs, caskets, key chains, floor and wall clocks, elements for writing.
  • Patterns, pattern, pointing elements.
  • Cutting letters, logos, promotional items.

One of the advantages of using milling, engraving and milling machines equipped with numerical control is the elimination of the need for edge processing. They have a flat and smooth surface. To carry out milling, you need to create a layout in vector format. The CNC machine tool system interpolates the movement of the tool for processing, according to the control program.

Prices

The cost of cutting plywood on CNC can be found in the table. Examples are taken for comparison in several companies.

Firm "Light Technology"

Cutting plywood on CNC machines - processing of plywood blanks on machine tools with numerical control. CNC machines allow you to manufacture parts in automatic or semi-automatic mode. The advantage of this type of manufacturing lies in the high precision of the actions. CNC processing of plywood can be carried out both in private production and in the factory.

Peculiarities

CNC equipment keeps operator intervention to a minimum. After manufacturing, the part does not require additional processing.

With the help of machine tools, several types of processing can be performed:

  • laser;
  • milling;
  • waterjet.

There is also plasma treatment. But it is used less frequently than other types. Depending on the type of processing, there are both advantages and disadvantages. Their consideration should be given special attention when not knowing which machine is better to choose.

The most acceptable for work are sheet-type materials. Of these types of manufacturing, milling is the most popular. on the machine ensures the manufacture of parts with precise dimensions and smooth edges. Laser cutting is more suitable for cutting plywood.

When cutting, it is necessary to adhere to the rules for using the unit.

With the help of milling, you can create almost all types of parts. Modern models are compact, so they can be placed in a room with a small area. Numerical control provides simple operation. Thanks to this, it is possible to cope with the processing of plywood without any experience. When buying a machine, there is an instruction that describes how to work with it.

Types of milling tools

The most common and functional is the milling type. The design of the machine assumes the presence of a collet clamp. With it, you can use cutters with different diameters with the machine.

Differ in small dimensions. But at the same time they have a lower power rating. Most often, such units are used for additional processing of a part in order to ensure higher accuracy.

There are also waterjet machines. The third type of devices is represented by a vertical base. It has a wide functionality, has a large size. Because of this, the device can only be placed in a room with a large area.

purpose

Giving preference, it is easier to process plywood with a cutter than when using other types of aggregates. The milling device allows the manufacture of parts with complex shapes.

Thanks to milling, it is possible to:

  • profiling of cornices, platbands, skirting boards;
  • cutting along a contour with a curved line;
  • creation of grooves, figured recesses;
  • surface decoration;
  • drilling holes.

On a CNC router, you can adjust the cutting depth. This feature enables automatic processing. The operator is required to set the trajectory along which the cutter will have to move. If you cut sloppy, the control program will help solve this problem.

Advantages

Milling plywood allows you to get parts with a clean and smooth surface. When using a laser, the edges will be charred and the edge will be burned. To process the ends, additional steps will be required.

Other benefits include:

  • the ability to work with material having a large thickness (thanks to milling cutting, a ten-centimeter thickness can be processed, while laser cutting allows you to cope with a thickness of no more than one centimeter);
  • creation of curvilinear CNC cutting of three-dimensional products and panels;
  • chamfering, rounding, groove milling.

There are special cutters designed for cutting plywood. Using such a cutter, it is possible to produce parts, after which there will be no pile and other defects on the cut.

But laser processing plywood also has a number of advantages. Using a laser cutting machine, you can produce small parts that have precise shapes and fragile elements. Carrying out laser cutting of plywood on the CNC, there is no mechanical load on the workpiece.

Preparation

Before production, it is necessary to prepare the CNC machine for work. The setup of the unit includes two stages. The first is represented by the setting of tool blocks, and the second - by working mechanisms.

Adjustment is carried out step by step:

  • fixing the base and fasteners;
  • warming up the mechanisms of the machine tool to ensure stable operation;
  • idle running of the control program.

Additionally, you need to check:

  • how clean are the system mechanisms;
  • whether the drawings and blanks correspond;
  • whether there is sufficient coolant and lubricant.

When serial machining with milling cutters, you should carefully monitor the processing of the first workpiece. With its help, it will be possible to determine whether there are errors after commissioning. If there are inaccuracies, additional corrections must be made. If there are several elements, the layout on the sheet saves plywood. After setting up, you will not need to check the control program - it will manufacture parts according to similar parameters.

cutting

Before you start cutting plywood, you need to make sure that the cutters are securely installed in the chuck. To do this, make sure that the cartridge is tightened and the nut is tightened. The check is performed using a wrench.

Then you need to set the depth to which the cutter will penetrate. The limiter knob provides a simple and quick adjustment of this indicator if necessary. To test the milling, it is recommended to use an unnecessary piece of plywood.

Many inexperienced users believe that the larger the cutter I cut, the better. But the principle "cut with a large tool for better work" will not work here. If the cutters have a large diameter, the machine tool should be set to a low RPM. When buying a machine, an instruction follows with it, in which you can see which parameters are optimal for processing.

The dimensions of the plywood blank should not be more than ten centimeters. For the manufacture of larger parts, special CNC machines are used. Professional units allow you to perform three-axis processing and cut thicker plywood. If earlier the operator independently cut the part, now the production is performed automatically. One is required to control the work. Production can be controlled remotely.

Scope of use

Cutting plywood using milling machines is used in the construction industry. Thanks to it, ceilings, wall formwork, foundations are made. Plywood is also used in:

  • shipbuilding;
  • roofing works;
  • laying the floor;
  • interior design;
  • furniture production.

With the help of milling on CNC machines, figured cutting is created. Thanks to cutting, advertising structures are produced. Plywood has high performance characteristics. The material can be used to make small three-dimensional letters for signs.

Plywood milling is the optimal way of curvilinear cutting. This procedure is carried out using a woodworking milling machine to simplify and speed up the workflow. This method helps to create non-standard products.

It is possible to cut with a hand tool for this operation, but it takes a lot of time and causes difficulties throughout the work.

Milling is carried out in such cases:

  • Construction and repair work;
  • Furniture manufacture;
  • Interior and exterior design;
  • Production of packaging, advertising construction, POS-material.

fixture

For a full-fledged cutting of plywood with a router, you should acquire a special device. Thanks to him, the blanks are formed clearly according to the conceived idea without distortion. This allows the tool to be positioned in a precise position to fit the workpiece. Attention! Some of these devices can be obtained with the purchase of a router directly. The option of purchasing this equipment for sale separately is also provided, a method of manufacturing it yourself is possible.

Milling plywood with a manual milling cutter is carried out using a parallel stop. For this there must be:

  • Screw for rod stopper;
  • The base of the hand fixture;
  • overlays;
  • stop;
  • Rods;
  • Carriages are movable;
  • Screws for stopper of movable carriages;
  • Screw for the stop stop;
  • Screws for fine adjustments.

Features of using the tool:

  • To ensure the rectilinear movement of the cutter in relation to the base surface of the plywood, a parallel stop should be used. Such a complete set can be seen with almost every tool on sale at the best price. According to the instructions, it is recommended to use such an emphasis when processing the edge and milling the grooves of the workpieces on which the fixtures are attached.
  • To set the fixture in the desired position to start the workflow, it is advised to push the rod into the holes of the frame so that the required distance between the cutter is formed, i.e. between its axis and the stop point on the top of the workpiece. After it is clamped with a locking screw.

Attention! There are stop models in which the pads are movable, which can allow you to change the size of the surface.

  • To be able to process round blanks, a special element is added to the stop part. It does not need to repeat the shape of the surface being processed. It is enough to cut a recess in an angular shape, and it will fit to any diameter.
  • During the milling process, it is worth paying attention that the glue, when connecting veneer sheets, can quickly disable the cutting tool, and also dulls it. To avoid such a situation, high requirements for hardness are imposed on the tools for this process.

Cutting wood and derived sheet materials

Solid wood is a unique natural material. For the highest environmental safety, infinitely rich texture and ease of processing, wood has won people's love and respect. A significant disadvantage of this material is a narrow range of sizes and thicknesses. The size of any lumber is limited by the size of the log. Fortunately, new materials have been developed that provide a solution to this problem. Such material as plywood is made from glued and pressed veneer - in fact from the same wood. It is very close to wood in terms of environmental friendliness and strength, but comes in a convenient format - in sheets of 1525x1525, 1220x2440 and 1500x3000 mm with an assortment of thicknesses from 3 to 40 mm. A more recent development is fiberboard, chipboard and MDF sheet materials, which are made from chips of varying degrees of processing. The technology of production from finely dispersed raw materials, connected with an adhesive composition, allows you to remove any restrictions on the format and thickness of materials. These materials have the highest homogeneity, in other words, knots or voids do not occur in them. The most popular sheet format for fiberboard, chipboard or MDF is 2080x2800 mm with a thickness of 3 to 40 mm. Wood and all derived sheet materials cut remarkably well and we often work with them.

Cutting sheet aluminum composite materials

We do not cut metals, the capabilities of our CNC milling equipment do not allow this. But we often work with aluminum sheet composite materials. The aluminum composite consists of three layers - two layers of aluminum foil up to 0.5 mm thick and a layer of synthetic filler pressed between them. The aluminum composite is very well milled, quite strong and light, it bends many times in the places of milling. It is used in construction when facing facades of buildings, in entrance groups and other solutions. The two most popular aluminum composite sheet formats are 1220x4000 and 1500x4000 mm. The industry produces sheets 6000 mm long, but we do not work with them.

Chip removal system.

The company's park has 2 milling machines with working tables 2100x4100 mm each. The machines are capable of cutting sheets of materials for advertising, construction, furniture production, etc. of almost all available sizes without preliminary cutting with an accuracy of up to 0.03 mm at one time with one file. Control of cutting modes is carried out by electronics with new microprograms. 3 kW spindles with speeds up to 24,000 rpm generate enough kinetic energy to mill sheet materials up to 70 mm thick at comfortable speeds. Portal and frame made of 9.5 mm thick steel profile suppress the resulting vibrations. As a result, the cutting tool is fed smoothly, without jerks and vibrations. With correctly selected speed conditions, we get an edge without swims, burrs and cracks. The additional option Tool sensor sets the spindle to "0" in the Z coordinate, automatically detecting the thickness of the workpiece on the worktable. A nice little thing that saves time in order fulfillment.

Cutting large batches of sheet materials

Two milling machines with a working table of 2x4 meters are installed in a workshop with an area of 160 m 2 . We work continuously in two shifts, if necessary - seven days a week. Unloading / loading of materials is automated and carried out by forklifts. At one time, we are able to accept a full euro truck of material or ship a similar amount of finished products.
