How much does a flower business cost. small flower tents

The flower business can be called one of the most profitable in the middle segment, if it is properly organized and understood in its nuances. A small business will not bring large incomes, but will be a good launching pad for future expansion. On the other hand, it can bring losses. To start making good money and not lose your investment, let's figure out how to open a flower shop from scratch and successfully run a business. To begin with, let's define the scale of the future trading enterprise. It could be:

    Salon or store with an average area of 60-80 sq. meters;

    a small point on the street under a canopy or a kiosk 8-20 sq. m;

    department in a shopping or entertainment center 10-25 sq. m.

With freedom in funds, it is better to invest them immediately in the store, because with the right location, it will bring more than 100,000 rubles a month, while a small outlet will give no more than 50,000 rubles. The point here is not the quantity of fragrant goods sold, but the status of the salon, assortment and prices.

A kiosk or street point focuses on cut flowers collected in bouquets. In addition to freshly cut flowers, a flower shop can provide the buyer with floristic compositions, picking bouquets to order, decorating rooms, holding master classes, exhibitions, competitions, offering designer decorations for interiors along the way, selling indoor plants. In addition, rich customers who are interested in expensive products will never go to a kiosk or tent, but will go straight to the salon. Thus, the most profitable business will be to open a flower shop, not a kiosk.

Step-by-step instruction

Having decided to open a flower shop, you need to look for a suitable place and carefully study the scope of your future activity: hot goods, suppliers, terms and conditions for the existence of a living product, the presence of competitors and their range. The close proximity of competitors will be unprofitable, but it’s worth learning from them. A new store with a salon in a similar direction must be separated from yours by at least 2 blocks. However, looking at them, you can see and determine not only the cost of goods, but also your future audience. If the pavilion is replete with expensive offers, and competitors are not sitting idle, then the demand in this area is for expensive, premium goods.

Repair and decoration of the premises

Having dealt with the place, suppliers, competition, you can start looking for suitable premises and designing your business. If there is a financial opportunity, it is better to purchase a store or a trading floor without fear that the tenant will change his mind and ask to vacate the premises. Renting is an option for a more budgetary promotion. In any case, the inside and sometimes outside of the store will need to be redecorated.

Note that the simplicity of the interior when focusing on the premium segment will spoil the first impression of wealthy customers who enter it. Even when trading medium-priced and cheap goods, it is necessary to maintain the spirit of beauty and artistry. Then, even if not the first freshness, a simple flower product will be perceived by the buyer as quite acceptable for the middle class. Do not disdain architectural decor, glass, mirrors, large chandeliers, lamps, lighting. In connection with the need to maintain a certain temperature for the well-being of plants, it is worth considering a climate control system.

Flower shop equipment

    Shelves, showcases.

    Stands, shelves, racks.

    Work tables, counters.

    Buckets, containers, vases.

    Light boxes, lighting.

    Refrigeration equipment.

    Tools for cutting stems.

Selection of assortment

At the beginning, it is not recommended to buy rare and unfamiliar flowers, it is better to do it later, when the flower business gets on its feet and develops a client base. Even if you are going to trade Blooming Palms, Cussonias and Oleanders later, it is better to start with the most popular ones, which include:

    carnations,

  • chrysanthemums,

    garden daisies,

  • hyacinths,

To decorate floral compositions and bouquets, it is desirable to have a supply of fern, Umbrella, Asparagus, Nephrolepis or other decorative additions to add to bouquets. In winter, the paws of coniferous plants will come to the place. They will create great New Year's combinations. Add to this foil, packaging film, ribbons, baskets, boxes, pots, planters, vases and other paraphernalia necessary for packaging, maintaining and displaying flowers. Domestic and foreign manufacturers are selected as suppliers. This will largely affect the cost and range.

Hiring

The boutique will require a minimum of 2 sellers working in shifts, a florist and an administrator. You will need to hire a cleaner. For the first time, an entrepreneur can act as an administrator himself. His duties will mainly be to accept applications in person, by phone or through the website, if there is one. Payment of sellers will be 15-20 thousand rubles per month. Experts recommend setting the minimum wage for employees and assigning a percentage of the proceeds. This will help to maximize the interest of staff in the sale of goods.

The cleaner is paid - 5-7 thousand a month, she can be coming. Many send staff to special courses in design and floristry, which will cost from 10 to 40 thousand rubles. You can not hire a florist in the first months of work, since his services are quite expensive. Later, you can either hire a separate specialist, or train your employees.

Choosing a building in which the store will be located is not easy. In addition to the lack of competition nearby, you need to take into account a lot of nuances. When choosing, the calculation must be done either for high traffic, or for the level of residents. If the area is prestigious, with elite buildings, you can count on a sufficient number of "expensive" clients.

It is necessary to take care of the availability of the future store. It is necessary to provide good access roads for cars, free parking. You will probably have to improve the nearby territory: lay paving slabs, make comfortable stairs, a ramp, lay out flower beds, and possibly sow a small lawn. The vegetation in front of a flower boutique should be at the highest level, because it is the business card of the store, along with shop windows and a signboard.

Documentation

You need to register your new business as an individual entrepreneurship or a limited liability company (IP or LLC). To begin with, it is quite appropriate to choose an individual entrepreneur and issue it according to the OKVED category 52.48.32. The taxation system can be chosen from the simplified tax system or UTII. You need to buy and register a cash register. In the case of opening an LLC, you will need a seal, which must be ordered and registered with the tax authority. To open a flower shop, you will need to collect the following documents:

    Certificate of opening an individual entrepreneur or LLC with statutory documents.

    Trade Permit.

    The conclusion of the SES that the premises can be used as a store.

    Permit from the fire department.

    Packing list.

    Book of complaints and suggestions.

Bookkeeping and tax reporting can be outsourced by contacting a consulting company or a private accountant. Keeping a full-time accountant for accounting, compiling and sending reporting documents is unprofitable.

Opening checklist

Is it profitable to open

The flower industry is a fairly profitable business, despite fierce competition and high financial and time initial costs. With a well-chosen assortment, location and organization of uninterrupted supplies of high-quality, fresh goods, this activity brings more than 6 million rubles a year to florist shops. The main profitable days are public holidays, on other days flowers are bought for personal or corporate purposes. Orders for registration of anniversaries, weddings and other celebrations will bring significant profit to the salon. The cost of maintaining it is quite loyal:

    Room rental - 80,000 rubles.

    Salary to employees - 75,000 rubles.

    Utility payments - 8,000 rubles.

    Purchase of flowers and other goods - 200,000 rubles.

    Taxes - 5,000 rubles.

    Accounting services - 5,000 rubles.

    Additional expenses - 10,000 rubles.

Total: 383,000 rubles.

With an average markup of 70%, you can get 140,000 net profit per unit of goods. Let's add services of arrangement of bouquets, which increase the cost by 10%, arrangement of arrangements, bringing another 50%, and we will get quite a nice amount of average income per month. Holidays and weekends will increase daily revenue by 2 or 3 times.

If you are thinking about how to start a flower business, you first need to decide what format your future store will be and estimate the amount of investment.

To open a small flower shop from scratch, you will need about ten thousand dollars. You may be able to save money, but it is still better to include exactly this amount in expenses.

Calculate all the costs for starting a store and draw up a business plan. Having described the entire financial model of work, you can calculate how much goods you need to sell in order for the store to start making a profit. Evaluate whether sales can reach this level. Think about how you can cut costs and increase flower sales.

You also need to decide from the very beginning whether you will work as an individual entrepreneur, or open a limited liability company. You can deal with the preparation of legal documents on your own, or you can entrust this matter to professionals. It is better to trust a company that specializes in preparing documents for starting a business, especially since the difference in costs is very small.

After you have written a business plan and registered your company, you can start looking for suitable premises and suppliers.

How to find the right room

When looking for premises, it is important to have a good idea of the so-called map of the trading territory. It is preferable to open a store near a large business center, it is better if there are two or three of them nearby. This will attract corporate clients who often place orders for large amounts for a large number of employees. In this case, you do not have to think about how to attract additional customers before the holidays. Several corporate orders can bring as much profit as you receive on average per month.

For a flower shop, a room of eighteen to thirty square meters will be sufficient.

In addition, the proximity to the business center will allow more customers to pass through your store per day. If people order your bouquets and compositions for their companies because they like them, they will start ordering bouquets for themselves, for their wives, relatives, etc.

True, it should be borne in mind that renting a room located near a business center is much more expensive than renting in a residential area. And one more thing: next to the business center it is always problematic to find a parking place.

But in any case, if you can rent a room in such a place, it is a great success, because the location of the salon at the intersection of many human flows is the most profitable. Life is in full swing during working hours, people buy more expensive bouquets for work-related occasions, but for themselves, as a rule, they take something cheaper.

Of course, you can open a store in a residential area. You will benefit significantly by renting a room, moreover, if the residential area is very large, a certain circle of regular buyers will appear living in your area. But you need to pay special attention to customer flows. The ideal option is to draw a map of the area before choosing a room, see where the school is located, where are large stores, grocery centers, etc.

If there are still some offices nearby, analyze which way people go to and from work. Even if you have already rented a room, you will still need a trade map of the area. With its help, you need to plan your future work.

Before renting a room, you need to pay attention to one more very important point. Think about how easy it will be for customers to find your store. If you rent premises in the yards, most likely you will have problems with the flow of customers. Of course, there will be regular customers, but you should not count on a continuous influx of new visitors. A beautifully designed showcase on the entrance street is the best advertisement for a flower shop.

Before the opening of the salon in the room, it is necessary to make repairs. There are a lot of interior design magazines out now that give you a lot of ideas on how to make repairs with minimal resources, even if the room is in a terrible state.

How to choose suppliers

Now suppliers offer a very wide range. Flowers that ten years ago could only be seen in catalogs or were brought only to order, today there are always free sales. There are many providers, you can choose those whose conditions will be most suitable for you.

When you're just starting your business, it's best to choose vendors that have minimal bulk purchases. This will make it possible to purchase goods more often and in small batches. This way you can avoid buying expensive refrigeration equipment for storing flowers, and you can also determine which flowers are selling better and which are worse.

What equipment will be needed

In a flower shop, it is desirable to have a refrigerator, so when opening it, you need to provide for its average cost in expenses. At first, you can do without a refrigerator, because there are a lot of flower suppliers now, you can take flowers in small batches. As long as there are few orders, you will not need a refrigerator. But when your business is sufficiently developed, you can already afford a refrigerator, and you will need it.

But if you still decide to buy a refrigerator - you do not need to place it inside the cabin, this makes an unpleasant impression on the buyer.

It is very important to properly equip the trading place. Even in the arrangement of colors there are many subtleties. You can arrange the flowers so that visually it will seem like there are a lot of them. You need to be able to choose the assortment in such a way that the effect of volume is created in the cabin. You will need shelving and containers for flowers.

To organize normal work in the cabin, at least one computer is required. A scanner, copier and fax are also needed, but they can be at the store manager's house, that is, you can use your own resources to the maximum.

How to recruit staff

The ideal option is to hire four florists who will work in shifts. Two florists working in one shift will be able to serve customers faster and complete more orders. Of course, you can start with two, but working alone is inconvenient. If there is only one florist in the store, he cannot go anywhere during the day. After all, he cannot close the store during his absence, so four employees is the most optimal number.

If it is not possible to hire so many employees at once, you can invite an assistant florist, his work is paid at least twice as cheap. An assistant may not work in the salon all day, but only during the time that the head is absent from the store. Students are happy to work in such positions, they count and process flowers. You can invite assistants for the weekend when the store management is resting.

How to plan an assortment

Carefully study the range of your competitors and understand what they are basically selling. If some flowers are sold, it means that there is a demand for them, this must be taken into account. At the same time, one should not be afraid to bring something new to the business, to make original offers to customers, to always slightly exceed their expectations, to offer more than others.

Walk around the area and see what your competitors are selling. So you can understand what is in demand.

Each flower has its own lifespan, it costs a certain time. When the salon is just opening, one can only guess what flowers will be in demand, even if you have analyzed what is being bought from your colleagues in the area. Therefore, in the first months of work it is better to buy flowers that last a long time. This will also ensure good filling of your store, create the impression of abundance, a wide range. Anthurium retains freshness for a week, orchids stand for a very long time, especially cymbidium and dendrobium, phalaenopsis in a flowerpot can generally stand for several months. Flowers in a cache-pot can be sold with it, and cut them for a bouquet. People willingly buy chrysanthemums both for home and as a gift, so chrysanthemums can also be purchased in large quantities. Also in the assortment must be present roses and gerberas.

To start a flower shop, it is better to form the main assortment of flowers that do not lose their presentation for a long time: anthurium, orchids, chrysanthemums.

It is very important to ensure that the assortment is wide not only in terms of names, but also in terms of color palette. Be sure to buy white flowers. This is a white rose, white chrysanthemums, white gerberas, white orchid. It is more difficult with spring flowers, there must be tulips, daffodils.

Initially, you can sell bouquets in one range to see what colors will be in demand. It is also useful to come up with standard bouquets, designed in a certain way, for a given amount, which will always be on sale. Gradually, as you develop your customer base, you will study demand, compare your sales with what flowers are sold by competitors, and make adjustments to the cost of your bouquets and colors.

The range must include inexpensive indoor plants.

At first, when you are still on a budget, you can buy indoor plants that can be sold individually or used in combination with fresh flowers. There are many such plants. For example, variegated begonia looks spectacular in bouquets, a special phylum gives a good volume, which can stand in a bouquet for several months. Bouquets that combine indoor plants and cut flowers always look very voluminous and expensive.

You can organize an exhibition of ready-made bouquets in the salon and make a special mark-up for each bouquet for the design.

It is very important to correctly arrange flowers in the salon. They don't have to be on the same level. In addition, when arranging, a smooth color transition is of great importance. Let the pink ones stand next to the red ones. It is important to create the impression that there are many colors. To do this, you can put additional indoor plants and branches, they give volume and height. The arrangement should be stepped. It is also necessary to try to ensure that roses and any other flowers are the same length.

The advantages of the flower business include a relatively small amount of initial investment, margins on goods reach up to 300%. Disadvantages: the product deteriorates quickly, it is damaged during transportation, seasonal sales.

Scale matters

The flower shop is no exception, its location. size greatly affect the development of business.

Small shop or pavilion

An important role is played by the size of the premises for business. A large store will expand the range of products. In addition to cut flowers, they sell flowers in pots, souvenirs offered as gifts, soil mix, and other related products, due to which costs in the store are reduced.

It will take approximately $20,000 to start the store. It pays off slowly, but due to the large assortment, regular customers, a stable business is obtained.

The pavilion, with a good location, brings good profit, and daily, despite the smaller area. The cost of opening it is negligible. But if the trading place is located on a site that is not profitable, then the income will drop significantly.

The profit in the pavilion depends mainly on the turnover. They sell mainly cut flowers with a small assortment of 20-25 items, which quickly deteriorate. Ancillary income is the packaging of flowers.

Specialized florist boutique

The sale of flowers in salons is gaining recognition. Elegant interior design in floristic boutiques emphasizes the beauty of the flower business. The flower salon has significant advantages, but the required amount to open it is 80 thousand dollars. Typically, boutiques have corporate clients with whom they constantly cooperate and deliver flowers to them.

Profit from corporate clients equals weekly profit from retail sales.

Business in development will be stable with great prospects, opening a network of salons, developing new areas.

How to open a flower shop

Opening a flower shop does not have any special legal requirements: it is not subject to licensing, it does not have special rules for taxation. Therefore, it is worth starting it in the same way as any other business - with registration and registration in the appropriate authorities.

Registration, opening documents

The store will not be able to carry out its activities without registration in state bodies. What does it take to open a flower shop? First, prepare documents and register, having decided on the legal form of a legal entity, or register as an individual entrepreneur.

The list of documents includes:

  • the charter of the company, signed by the founders in two copies with an electronic copy;
  • a certificate from the bank confirming the presence of the authorized capital;
  • receipt of payment of state duty;

Then you should submit an application to the tax office. A sample of filling out documents can be found on the Internet or in the inspection itself.

Purchase of equipment

Photo: an example of the arrangement of flower racks.

The initial cost of purchasing equipment can be kept to a minimum. It would be wise to purchase everything you need in specialized firms from wholesale suppliers.

From furniture bought:

  • tables,
  • some chairs,
  • shelving and showcases
  • coasters,
  • cutting tool,
  • several plastic buckets, containers for flowers.

Mobile refrigeration units are purchased when urgently needed. In the hot months, you can use a conventional household air conditioner, in case of cold winter months, a portable electric heater is purchased.

Purchase of goods

When purchasing goods, it is necessary to focus on wholesale suppliers with experience in working with a good reputation, then there will be no problems with the reliability of delivery and the quality of the goods.

Fresh flowers are stored at a well-chosen temperature regime for up to 20 days.

After this period, the presentation of the flowers disappears. To reduce the costs of goods that have become unusable, it is necessary to plan the assortment and terms of purchases.

Roses and carnations should be present in the assortment - they are in constant demand. Roses attract grace and beauty. They are in demand at any time of the year; in non-seasonal periods, prices increase twofold, on holidays three times. Strict and refined carnations are no less attractive, although they are inferior to other colors at a price.

The assortment is usually based on gardenias, tulips, daffodils and orchids. From them you can make compositions that will become not only a profitable product, but even a business card and interior decoration of your store.

Brief Business Plan for a Flower Shop

How much does it cost: basic and related costs

Business starts with bills. Having decided on the premises, you can calculate how much you need to invest in a flower shop. The table calculates the costs without taking into account the funds for the preparation of documents and the payment of state duty tax.

Estimated costs:

Is it profitable?

The flower business, despite the time, effort and money invested, will bring a good profit.

Factors affecting potential income:

  • market scale,
  • choice of scale of activity: shop, pavilion or boutique, expenses are proportional to the area;
  • the right choice of location for trade;
  • organization of reliable delivery, advertising of goods;
  • professional sales methods, good-natured, gentle and respectful customer service;
  • the size of the initial investment, taking into account the energy and effort that was invested in the business, including personal attitude.

Taking into account all the above nuances, the net profit in a small store will be from 5 to 45 thousand dollars a year, and in a floristic salon the amount doubles.

The specifics of the flower shop

Where to open your store: choosing a location

Flowers are bought by succumbing to impulsive feelings that are not controlled, so the location of the store will solve the issue of sale by 80%.

Despite fierce competition, the store should be located in the busiest places. The space near the store should be as spacious as possible, and the place should be open so that there is an overview and the store can be viewed from all sides.

Potted (indoor) or cut flowers?

Indoor flowers have always been in demand, and with the development of interior design, they have acquired a special status: they are diverse, beautiful, and colorful. The niche with potted flowers has not yet been fully mastered.

Many growers sell potted flowers as a complement to their existing cut flowers. Specialty flower shops selling indoor flowers are rare, but if combined with the sale of cut flowers, large areas will be required.

March 8, September 1 and other "red dates" - the best time to open a store

The opening can be timed to a specific date corresponding to holidays.

For example, open it in early March and get a decent profit for a few holidays, which often reach 20% of annual income.

Opening costs will pay off almost immediately. But you can start activities in early September, then trade continues steadily until early January. The right time must be chosen, taking into account the peculiarities of trading, which lies in a pronounced seasonality.

Seasonality in this area

The flower business is seasonal, especially in a small town. Basically, the period of decline in the flower trade falls on May-September in summer, and January-February in winter. The summer decrease in activity is explained by a large outflow of the population - the holiday season. In winter, trade continues, but not so lively, mainly flowers are purchased for special occasions, anniversaries, birthdays.

But the end of summer and autumn are the height of weddings. The services of a flower shop during this period are in great demand.

It is quite acceptable to provide an additional source that will support the flower business by choosing a business close to the flower business, for example, landscaping offices with artificial flowers.

Floristic salon rules

Requirements for a floristic salon increase depending on the client's requests.

There are rules to follow:

  • excellent service capable of satisfying the client;
  • the interior of the salon, its layout, cleanliness, arrangement of flowers;
  • varied range of goods. In addition to roses, lilacs, gladioli, peonies, lilies of the valley, daffodils are connected. Reflect in the interior elements that emphasize the special charm of the colors available;
  • the presence of all kinds of greenery for flowers, elegant ready-made bouquets.

Business development

Online store of flowers and gifts

To improve and develop a business, it is logical to open an online store in parallel, which will make a profit and promote goods in networks. With the development and accessibility of the Internet, the popularity of online projects has increased, the costs of opening are minimal, and there are more amenities.

It is worth considering as an option for additional services flower delivery on the site.

When ordering flowers, you save time, money, delivery is carried out quite quickly. Flowers are delivered to the addressee at the request of the customer. Payment and delivery are made in accordance with the established procedure - prepaid or with a bank card. Convenient navigation helps to make a choice of colors.

The online store is open, for example, around the clock. Then there will be an opportunity to increase trade by expanding the list of services. In addition to flowers, you can sell souvenirs, gifts, greeting cards, as many customers, when buying flowers, order a gift for a bouquet.

Advertising and marketing

Having decided to start a business, you are faced with the question: where to start? It is necessary to develop a marketing plan, advertise the product and form a base of potential customers who can move into the category of potential ones. The costs associated with advertising are not so significant, but the effect is amazing.

  • articles about business in networks, in magazines,
  • radio and television announcements
  • on street billboards. So more people will know about the existence of the business, the number of potential customers increases.

Store interior and exterior

When decorating, it is better to stick to warm tones, which do not particularly attract attention, but are able to emphasize the special atmosphere inherent in flowers. Divide the store into zones, taking into account the goods sold, allocate an area for cut flowers, potted ones. Use various attributes to increase the space of a room, such as mirrors.

You should create a good system of lighting fixtures, put original furniture. External design must be ordered from a company dealing with this issue. Usually, in the catalogs of such companies, an example of design is given: after viewing, you can choose the best option, which will become the hallmark of the store.

The flower business often appears as a hobby, therefore it is not uncommon for its owners to be women. However, the representatives of the stronger sex, who know the value of money, also do not mind making money on the beautiful. This is exactly the case when money smells, and it is very pleasant.

In the views of many inhabitants, the flower business is an attractive and profitable occupation. However, if the question of how to start a flower business from scratch is dealt with closely, then a lot of “pitfalls” will come up. Having an idea about the features of the flower market, all the pros and cons, it will be possible to minimize possible risks.

The basic principle of the flower business

With a bad mood, people are unlikely to go to the store for flowers. This means that the main task of the owner of this business is to make sure that the good mood of the visitor is preserved. It is important to be able to guess what the consumer wants and offer the buyer different products, depending on the event for which the bouquet is provided.

Before you start your business in the flower field, you need to familiarize yourself with some of the nuances that beginners will come in especially handy.

  • The markdown of the goods must be made in a week, without waiting for the moment when the bouquets begin to wither;
  • The landlord must provide the so-called "rental holidays" (without payment), lasting 7-14 days in order to equip the premises;
  • Find out if utilities are included in the rent.

Important! It should not be forgotten that the style and originality of the design of bouquets is the key to an inexhaustible flow of customers who always appreciate this approach.

Getting started is hard work

The problem of how to open a flower business from scratch should be approached responsibly. It is highly recommended to establish where it is most reasonable to start, what is needed to open a flower shop.

We collect documents

Regardless of what area the trade pavilion will occupy, the owner must have a certain set of documents:

  • Permitting documents for engaging in trade (in accordance with No. 381-FZ), for which you can apply to the district government;
  • conclusion from san-epidem. authorities that the retail space meets the required sanitation standards;
  • do not forget about the book of complaints and suggestions;
  • you should take care of consignment notes for products presented in the store;
  • price list for the goods offered to consumers (this item can be omitted).

A package of these documents must be presented to the buyer at the first request. But the contract for the lease of the premises, the document certifying the registration of the cash register, as well as the documentation for the equipment should always be at hand in case the inspection authorities swoop in.

Each member of the team must have a medical book and a card indicating the last name, first name, patronymic of the employee and a photograph.

Choose a place

Perhaps the very first steps in the flower business should be aimed at determining the location of the store. This largely determines how successful the event as a whole will be. For some, it is absolutely indifferent where to buy flowers, any store will do, and some are ready to drive through the whole city to their favorite salon and purchase a bouquet there.

In order not to make a mistake with the place, you need to have a clear idea about potential buyers. Usually fresh, only cut flowers are in a hurry to buy the male half. They will not notice elegant potted plants, preferring beautiful roses or, at worst, chrysanthemums.

Women are more fond of potted plants and exotic flora. Ladies who are well versed in gardening are ready to acquire various types of plants with enviable constancy, replenishing their collections with them. In addition to flowers, they are interested in drainage, soil, fertilizers, decorations. Such buyers will choose a flower shop located near the house and, most likely, next to a bus stop.

Range features

For relatively small areas, the best option would be to sell freshly cut flowers. In such establishments, buyers will not look for indoor plants or related products. Among other things, this category of space requires a lot. In such stores it is recommended to sell carnations, roses, gerberas, different types of tulips.

If the pavilion has an area of more than 20 sq. m., then the varieties of the presented goods should be expanded. Orchids, irises, anthuriums are added. It would be nice to expand the varietal stock of roses.
Large flower shops (from 30 sq. m.) have the opportunity to diversify their product range with potted plants, soil, fertilizers and various accessories.

Area 50 sq. m. and above allows you to bring the product variety of the store to the maximum values. Exotic options, large-sized potted plants, and a wide variety of soil will sell well here. Pavilions with a large sales area may offer to pack products. As an option, you should start making designer postcards from fresh flowers.

Staff is important

Dealing with the issue of personnel in a business that involves the sale of flowers is not an easy task, deserving special attention. The return on investment depends on how professional the sellers are. Only those who are characterized by creative thinking and developed imagination are able to work in this industry. In addition, employees are required to have special skills and knowledge in caring for different types of plants. The duties of the seller include both the creation of bouquets to order, and the consultation of consumers. It depends on the benevolence and professionalism of the consultant whether the buyer wants to come to this pavilion again.

For special education, those who wish can go to special floristry courses. However, the possession of a document confirming the completion of training on this issue does not mean at all that the employee has become a professional. A specialist must love his job, flowers are a special product that requires tenderness and respect for oneself.

The staff of a flower shop is supposed to have another indispensable quality - the ability to sell. Attracting a buyer is not an easy task, you also need to be able to do it. In order to stimulate such qualities, a special wage scheme can be used by an entrepreneur. To do this, you need not only to limit yourself to setting a standard rate for working hours, but also to provide for a percentage of actual sales. Thus, the employee will have the task of selling the maximum amount of goods per day in order to earn more, respectively.

In order to set up your business on flowers, you will need not only a trained florist and seller, you will also need an accountant and an administrator. The online store will require a driver and a courier.

Integrity and honesty are the main qualities that employees should have. However, the entrepreneur himself should behave kindly with his subordinates.

Important! Any business must be built on mutual understanding between workers and employers. The success of the event depends on this.

What equipment is required

Those who are puzzled by the problem of how to open their own flower shop from scratch should purchase the required equipment.

It is necessary to purchase good quality furniture, flowerpots with flowers and already created bouquets will flaunt on it. Those who wish have the opportunity to contact specialized companies that will be happy to offer their services for the supply of commercial equipment for various types of businesses, including everything for a flower shop. It is recommended not to forget that a business tied to flowers involves attracting a sufficiently large number of buyers. What else to interest potential consumers, if not colorful design and professionalism of employees, you can interest potential buyers?!

Short shelf life is a distinctive feature of the flower business. Some people find this aspect intimidating. To extend the life of your flower garden, you should take care of purchasing special refrigerators and freezers. A less expensive option is also allowed - the use of industrial refrigerators. Such equipment can be found in supermarkets and ordinary stores, they store meat, milk, sausages and cheese.

If the flower pavilion acquires such equipment, then it should be installed in a warehouse, thereby hiding from prying eyes. Why do buyers need to know that the rose did not come straight from Holland, as they think, but retained its freshness and presentable appearance thanks to special storage conditions.

Business benefits on flowers

For those who have planned, but do not know how to open a flower business from scratch, the issue of profitability is important. Whether the flower business is profitable is not problematic to calculate.

It should be noted that this area is perhaps one of the most profitable. The cheat for 1 flower goes off scale and sometimes varies between 100-150%. If we consider the average profitability of a store that sells such products, then it can be estimated at about 50%, and this is taking into account rental costs, wages, contingencies and marriage, which is indispensable in this business.

Store Profitability largely determined by the experience and professionalism of the seller. It will be possible to achieve an increase in the goods sold due to the ability to correctly compose bouquets and properly care for flowers.

Positive and negative aspects of the flower business

Before you start a flower shop business, you need to consider all the pros and cons of this venture.

Benefits it is worth noting the following:

  • Fast start. Like any other business, flowers also require a certain initial capital. However, big money is not needed here. It will be enough for 8-10 thousand dollars to open your point near the subway or at the bus stop.
  • In case of failure, winding down the business is also easy. It will only be necessary to get rid of the equipment by selling it, and resolve the documentary side of the issue.
  • Impressive markup is a feature of this business. A rose purchased in Holland for $1 is sold here for $2, 3 and even $5.

But in flower sales there are also limitations:

  • Limited shelf life. The product is short-lived and in a new batch there is always a marriage, the plants begin to fade quickly, lose their presentable appearance.
  • The business is seasonal. Sometimes on holidays, such as March 8, you can count on receiving annual revenue. However, there are also "dead" seasons. Few flowers are sold in summer.

The listed nuances need to be taken into account by everyone who is tormented by the question of how to open a flower shop in a small town or a million-strong metropolis.

How to run a flower business from home

Deciding where to start a flower business at home is not difficult at all. First you need to register an online store. Resources for its location can be:

  • Maintenance of an independent website;
  • Implementation through social networks;
  • Sites-fairs offering various goods and services.

Each of these methods has both advantages and disadvantages. If you create your own website, then you should subsequently try to promote it, which implies certain costs. The social network limits the possibilities, but the site is absolutely free.

An online store has a significant advantage, which is minimal risk. To set up work, you just need to get a supplier who is able to sell you the required batch of flowers as soon as possible.

Having an idea of how to start a flower business from scratch, you will be able to minimize the possible risk and implement a promising event that can bring good income.

1. Summary of the project "Flower shop"

Every year the volume of the flower market is growing, which indicates the active development of the industry. Today, the floristic business is a popular and profitable type of business. The goal of the project is to open a flower shop in a city with a population of more than 1 million people. The main source of income for the establishment is the sale of flower products. The target audience is the population of the city aged 20 to 50 with an average income.

The main advantages of a flower shop:

    minimum initial costs;

    high profits in the long term;

    business profitability of 20-30%.

For the implementation of the project, a room with a total area of 20 m 2 is rented, located in the immediate vicinity of the shopping center. The volume of initial investment is 311,000 rubles. Investment costs are directed to the purchase of specialized equipment: the arrangement of a retail outlet, the purchase of flower products. Own funds will be used to implement the project.

Financial calculations cover a three-year period of project operation. It is anticipated that after this time, business expansion will be required. According to the calculations, the initial investment will pay off in the fifth month of operation. Based on the results of the first year of operation, a net profit of 682,782 rubles and a return on sales of 21% are forecast. Integral project performance indicators are presented in Table 1.

2. Description of the industry and company

Flowers are one of the main attributes of the holiday. The tradition of giving flowers and decorating space with them has firmly established itself in Russia. Therefore, flower shops always find their customers, despite the season and economic crises. The demand for flowers is a kind of reflection of the financial condition of society - the richer it is, the more flowers are bought. And at the same time, even in times of crisis, flower shops are actively conducting their business - only the emphasis on sales is shifting, preference is given to budget options, but sales volumes do not decrease.

Over the past few years, the Russian flower market has been demonstrating active growth. The statistics of market volumes testify to the dynamic development of the flower market. Every year, the market volumes are increasing - for the period from 2011 to 2015, the volume of the cut flower market in physical terms increased by 1/3.

Figure 1. The volume of the flower market in real terms, billion pieces, 2011-15

In monetary terms, this growth is more noticeable due to the increase in prices for flowers. During the period 2011-2015, the market volume increased by almost 40%.

Figure 2. The value of the flower market, billion rubles, 2011-15

To date, the entire Russian market can be estimated at 160 billion rubles in monetary terms and 35.8 tons in physical terms. According to analysts' forecasts, the Russian flower market will continue to grow. According to the analytical company GLOBAL REACH CONSULTING, the real capacity of the domestic market is estimated at $40 billion.

Thus, the flower business is regarded as one of the most promising, despite the risky component. The average profitability of the flower business is constantly growing. At the same time, the likelihood of risk also increases. The main threats are related to the pronounced seasonality of the business and the high probability of incorrect planning of sales volumes of flower products. Flower sales peak in February, March, May, September and December, and the summer months are considered the "off" season, which can cause a significant reduction in profits. In addition, flowers are not stored for a long time - the maximum period for their sale is limited to one week. In case of excessive purchase of flower products, the store may suffer losses. However, sellers take this risk into account when pricing, assuming that about 60% of the flowers will not be sold.

Another risk is a strong dependence on imports. Today, Russia ranks sixth in imports of cut flowers, and the share of imports in sales is about 90%. However, there is a positive trend in the share of domestic products. According to analysts, in the next ten years, Russia will take second place in Europe in terms of imports after Germany. This risk lies in the possible growth of the exchange rate, the likelihood of a ban on the import of flower products from some countries, the tightening of customs policy, etc. Figure 3 shows the structure of flower imports by producing countries. The largest share of imports falls on the Netherlands - 44.7%, the second and third place is occupied by Ecuador and Colombia with a share of supplies of 36% and 12.8%, respectively. Other countries account for only 6.5% of deliveries.

Figure 3. Distribution of producing countries by volume of deliveries in physical terms in the Russian Federation, 2014

Roses account for 43% in the structure of flower deliveries. The second most popular flowers are chrysanthemums - 24%. The top three is closed by carnations, the share of supplies of which is 22%. In general, in recent years, the leaders in supplies have remained unchanged, but there is a tendency to popularize exotic, unusual colors. Recently, flower shops are trying to diversify their assortment and attract customers with unique types of flowers.

Figure 4. Structure of flowers in the total volume of imports (in physical terms), %, 2014

Pricing in the market consists of two components - the amount of costs (taking into account the exchange rate, customs duties, the price of gasoline, etc.) and fluctuations in demand - an increase in demand entails an increase in prices. On average, the pricing policy in the flower market implies an extra charge of 100-300% of the purchase price.

In most cases, retail sales of flowers are carried out in the form of flower pavilions and stalls - 70%, about 10% are in shops, flower shops and boutiques designed for the premium segment are less popular. Recently, online stores are gaining popularity, which are a less risky model of the flower business.

Analysis of the flower market showed the relevance and relevance of this business. The main advantages are a relatively quick organization and start of work, the absence of licensing activities, a low threshold for entering the market, an acceptable level of initial investment, high demand for goods and a level of profitability. However, the disadvantages of the flower business should also be taken into account: non-standardization of products, high dependence on customs policy , exchange rates, pronounced seasonality, high level of competition.

3. Description of goods and services of the flower shop

The main activity of the florist shop is the retail trade in flower cuts. For the flower business, a set of additional services is important, which form its competitive advantages. Additional services may include:

    flower courier service;

    floristic decoration of celebrations;

    sale of related products (postcards, soft toys, sweets, etc.);

    gift wrapping;

    drawing up floristic boxes with flowers and sweets;

    original packaging of bouquets, for example, cone bags with a comfortable handle or craft paper;

    drawing inscriptions and drawings on flower petals;

    creation of floral compositions for decoration.

Ready-made ideas for your business

The range of additional services can be much wider - it depends on the format of the store and its goals. To form a list of services in a flower shop, it is recommended to study the services of competitors. To date, the sale of standard bouquets is a losing business model. Modern consumers value creativity, original approach and exclusivity of the floristic services provided.

List of flower shop services:

    Sale of cut flowers(rose, chrysanthemum, tulip, peony, ranunculus, hydrangea, eustoma, carnation, gerbera, alstroemeria, narcissus, orchid, lily, freesia), taking into account the seasonality of flowers;

    Gift wrapping of flowers and bouquets;

    Making floral arrangements and bouquets;

    Sale of related products(postcards, gift boxes with flowers and sweets);

    Delivery of bouquets by courier service;

    Floral decoration for celebrations. Services for the design of premises are provided by prior order, taking into account the wishes of the client;

    Bouquet order by phone– To save the client’s time waiting for the bouquet, the store provides a pre-order service. It is enough for the client to call in to pay and pick up the bouquet.

4. Flower shop sales and marketing

Statistics for medium and large cities allows us to form a typical “portrait” of a flower shop client: 57.9% of men, 42.1% of women, the average age of the buyer is 35 years, material wealth is average. In accordance with the above statistics, the target audience of the store is also determined - the population aged 20 to 50 years with an average income level.

The first step is to analyze the competitive environment. This will allow you to assess the level of demand and business threat, develop your competitive advantages and decide on a marketing strategy. creative services presented in your store.

When planning an advertising campaign, it should be borne in mind that promotion channels such as advertising in newspapers, on radio and television in the flower business do not bring the desired effect. This is due to the fact that buying flowers is often an impulsive phenomenon - a person walks past a flower stall and decides to buy a bouquet here. Therefore, outdoor advertising will be the most effective. In addition, one of the parameters that determine the competitive advantages of a flower shop is a favorable location. The most successful location of the outlet is a pavilion at the intersection of several streets with a lot of passer-by traffic.

In addition, it is recommended to create a group and a profile on social networks that advertise products. Creating a website for a flower shop is completely optional, especially if you plan a small flower stall. Setting the price for the sold goods of a flower shop should be carried out taking into account the prices of competitors. It is important that the pricing policy be flexible enough - this will satisfy the demand both in the budget and in the expensive price segment. To stimulate the sale of flower products, bonus cards, various discounts and promotions, and a loyalty program for regular customers can be used.

You should also provide for the creation of your own logo and branded packaging, which will become the hallmark of the store. The development of an exclusive style, logo and original name will cost an average of 6,000 rubles. An advertising sign will cost around 20,000, including installation. Do not forget about such a form of advertising as word of mouth. Therefore, the best advertisement will be fresh flowers and the professionalism of florists who can create beautiful flower arrangements.

5. Flower shop production plan

Opening a flower shop includes six main stages, including registration, selection of location and premises, recruitment, purchase of equipment, search for suppliers of flower products, sales planning and purchase of goods. Next, we will take a closer look at each of them.

1. Registration with state bodies. Retailing flowers is not a licensed activity, which simplifies the process of collecting the documents required to open a flower shop. The organizational and legal form of an enterprise can be an individual entrepreneur or LLC. For a flower shop, it is recommended to register an individual entrepreneur with a simplified taxation system (“income” at a rate of 6%). Types of activities according to OKVED-2:

    47.76.1 Retail sale of flowers and other plants, seeds and fertilizers in specialized stores. This is the main activity. When diversifying the flower business and having additional services, you can specify the following codes:

    47.78.3 Retail trade in souvenirs, handicrafts

    64.12 Courier activities other than national postal activities

    74.10 Activities specialized in the field of design

    82.92 Packaging activities

Ready-made ideas for your business

It is not necessary to enter the entire list of codes, but if you plan to further expand your business, it is recommended that you enter all of the listed codes that may be required in the future.

List of documents for opening a flower shop:

    permission to trade in flowers;

    the program of sanitary and production control is obtained once after approval by Rospotrebnadzor;

    contracts for deratization, disinfestation and disinfection;

    contract for the maintenance of the ventilation and air conditioning system;

    contract for the export and disposal of solid waste;

    internal documentation: register of disinfectants;

    SES hygienic permit or relevant quality certificates.

2. Location and choice of commercial premises. The main criterion for choosing a location is high traffic of people. It can be street intersections, an area near a shopping center or a bus stop, busy streets in residential areas. A retail space on the ground floor of a residential building is also suitable - as a rule, such premises are relatively cheaper. For a flower shop, a room of 20 m 2 is suitable - this will be enough for a retail space and a small room for storing flowers. For the implementation of the project, it is planned to rent a room near the shopping center. The area of the leased premises is 20 m 2, the average cost for a city with a population of 800-1 million people is 20,000 rubles.

3. Recruitment. The main employees of the flower shop are florists. It is recommended to take a responsible approach to the choice of a florist and hire professional staff, since the quality of the services provided depends on them. During the daily operation of the store from 9:00 to 21:00, two florists will be required to work in shifts.

4. Purchase of equipment. In a flower shop, it is necessary to maintain a temperature of +5º to +8º C, which is comfortable for flowers. To do this, you will need to install a specialized refrigerator. The cost of such equipment is 50,000-70,000 rubles, and the installation averages 20,000 rubles. To save money, you should consider purchasing used equipment - it will cost 20-25% less. You should also take into account small working equipment that florists will need to make bouquets - rubles are laid for this. Another important point is the installation of security and fire-fighting equipment, the cost of which will be an average of 30,000 rubles.

5. Search for suppliers of flower products. This point is one of the key when organizing a flower business, since the work of the store and the quality of the final product depend on the reliability of suppliers. The search for partners can be carried out through thematic forums and websites. The choice of suppliers is a rather responsible and painstaking work.

6. Sales planning and purchase of flower products. Planning sales volumes is a very important stage, since the supply of flower products depends on it. Incorrectly calculated terms can lead to either store downtime or losses due to product damage. Another task follows from this - an established system for the delivery of flower products. Keep in mind that freshly cut flowers must be brought in every 4-5 days. Thus, it is planned to carry out 5 purchases per month every 5 days. To fill a trading area of 15-20 m 2, an initial purchase of approximately 70,000 rubles will be required. At the same time, the additional purchase of the assortment will amount to 10,000-15,000 rubles.

Sales planning is based on the seasonality of the flower business. Sales peaks fall on the following dates - February 14, February 23, March 8, May 9, September 1. Profit for these days can be 20-25% of the total profit for the entire month. In summer, demand drops significantly, although graduation and wedding days should be taken into account. An approximate schedule of revenue volumes by months is shown in fig. 5 - it shows the peaks and declines in flower sales.

Figure 5. Dynamics of sales volume of flower products by months

Predicting the income of a flower shop is quite difficult. In each case, it is necessary to carefully plan sales volumes, taking into account the price segment, region, competitors, etc. For the forecast in this project, average market indicators will be used. According to statistics, the volume of sales in a stationary store per month is 200-250 bouquets. Based on the fact that the store will present a variety of flowers - both inexpensive and premium - sales planning is based on a ratio of 60/40%: i.e. the number of inexpensive bouquets will be 120 pieces, and expensive ones - 80 pieces. The average price of bouquets in the inexpensive segment will be 300 rubles, in the expensive segment - 1500 rubles. On average, the monthly revenue will be 267,150 rubles.

6. Organizational plan for a flower shop

For the functioning of a flower shop, you will need to form a staff:

    Director- store manager, combining the work of an accountant and a procurement logistics specialist. The director may be the business owner himself;

    Florists– employees who are engaged in the preparation of compositions and the sale of bouquets;

  • Cleaning woman(part-time), cleaning the premises 3-4 times a week.

It is planned to hire two florists who will work in shifts. Work schedule: 2 through 2. Practice shows that for a successful business, flower sellers must not only be able to make bouquets and get along with customers, but also know the psychology in order to offer the bouquet that the client wants to buy. This point should not be neglected, so when choosing florists, you should take it into account. The total wage fund will amount to 72,000 rubles, and taking into account insurance payments - 93,600 rubles per month.

Table 3. Flower shop staff

Since the list of services includes the delivery of bouquets, cooperation with a courier service is necessary. Currently, the market offers various options for courier services that are interested in cooperation with legal entities. The average rate of 1 delivery in the city is 250 rubles. Usually stores, providing such services, make an extra charge of 50-100 rubles. Since it is quite difficult to predict the popularity of this service, the profit from it is not taken into account in this project. In case of successful business development, it is planned to hire a courier driver who would deliver flower products. At the initial stage of the business, having such an employee on the staff is not profitable.

7. Financial plan for a flower shop

The financial plan takes into account all income and expenses of the project, the planning horizon is 3 years. It is planned that after this period the institution will need to expand its business. To launch the project, it is necessary to calculate the amount of initial investment. Approximately 43% of the initial investment is in the technical equipment and furniture of the store; 45% of investments - for the initial purchase of flower products and the formation of a fund for paying rent and salaries in the first months of work, for advertising and registration - 12%. Thus, the total amount of the initial investment will be 311,000 rubles. Own funds will be used to implement the project.

The amount of depreciation is determined by the straight-line method, based on the useful life of fixed assets in 5 years. Fixed costs also include tax deductions, which are not presented in this table, since their amount is not fixed, but depends on the amount of revenue. In the structure of costs, the share of the payroll is 47%, the purchase of flower products - 25%.

Table 5. Flower shop monthly expenses

8. Performance evaluation

The payback period of the project with an initial investment of 251,000 rubles is 5 months. The net monthly profit of the project upon reaching the planned sales volumes will be 156,000 rubles. It is planned to reach the planned sales volume in the third month of operation. Profitability of sales in the first year of operation - 21%. The net present value is positive and equal to 88,312 rubles, which indicates the investment attractiveness of the project.

9. Possible risks of the flower business

The flower business comes with a variety of risks to consider when planning:

    Flowers are a perishable commodity. In order to avoid losses, it is necessary to constantly monitor the market and forecast demand;

    The likelihood of receiving low-quality or defective goods. It is possible to reduce this risk by choosing reliable suppliers and competently drafting a contract;

    The cyclicity of the flower market and the episodic demand (seasonality). It will not be possible to completely eliminate the risk, but it is possible to mitigate its impact by opening new business segments and introducing additional services;

    Errors in estimation of sales volumes, which can lead to the disposal of 60% of all flower products. It is possible to mitigate this risk by collecting statistical data: installing a sensor at the entrance to the store that counts incoming visitors. These indicators and sales statistics will allow you to calculate the optimal volume of purchases and draw up a weekly plan. Small flower shops adapt to the format of work within 1-2 months;

    High level of competition in the market. It is possible to reduce this risk with a well-thought-out marketing strategy and the achievement of certain competitive advantages;

  • Fluctuations in the exchange rate and the likelihood of tightening customs policy. It is possible to reduce the impact of this risk by diversifying suppliers and purchasing part of the goods from domestic manufacturers;
  • Loss of space or increase in rent. Since a favorable location largely determines the success of a business, changing it can entail significant costs. To minimize this risk, you should carefully choose a landlord and conclude a long-term lease agreement.

The article describes the risks of running a flower business very well, but did not emphasize that one of the main factors affecting the success of this business is the location of the pavilion and the level of competition in the immediate environment. Why is it so?

First of all, because in large cities the population itself is heterogeneous. Neither by age composition, nor by income, nor by preferences. And this is important, because in different areas there is a different “average bill”, which directly affects the profitability of a business.

Secondly, where citizens with higher incomes live, the share of bouquets with a floristic component and having a higher profitability in the revenue structure will be noticeably higher than in areas where pensioners mainly live.

Thirdly, it makes sense to focus on “related” products and services and increase their share in revenue, since in most cases, their “profit on sales” is higher than the typical average margin on the main product.

Working on such projects, I was often asked: what flowers are most in demand? What should be the minimum purchases and product balances? What should be the markup? Unfortunately, only practical experience or careful study of the market can initially answer these questions. At the same time, he, the "experience" in each city, in each district is different. This must always be kept in mind.
