Curtains in a modern interior are a storehouse of relevant ideas. Unusual window decoration ideas What is the name of the window opening window decoration

You cannot change the view from the window, but you can redesign the window itself, turning the window sill into the most favorite place in the apartment. Is it possible? Of course, it is not for nothing that windows are called the eyes of the house, and the eyes, as we remember, are the mirror of the soul.

Before proceeding with the decor, you should deal with important technical points, which in the northern climate include, first of all, high-quality insulation. If a hurricane draft is blowing from the window, the maximum decor that you can afford is pasting the frame with a thick layer of cotton wool. In order for the windows to be beautifully designed and used to the maximum, one cannot do without high-quality double-glazed windows, a neat window sill and clean glass. However, before choosing the material and dimensions for the window sill, you should think about how exactly you will use this window.

The possibilities to turn a window opening into a cozy sofa or a full-fledged workplace depend, of course, on the height of the window opening and the functions of the room, but among the many options, there will surely be something suitable for your case.

Even if you are not ready for bold decorative solutions and just want to beautifully decorate window openings with curtains and blinds, you should do it wisely.

Decoration of small windows:

  • give up lush multilayer draperies, they will turn already small windows into loopholes;
  • remember that long curtains and vertical stripes on the fabric visually lengthen the opening;
  • place the cornice under the ceiling, and hide part of the wall above the window opening behind laconic lambrequins, so the window will seem noticeably larger;
  • give preference to plain fabrics or textiles with small ornaments;
  • roller blinds, roman blinds, and blinds are perfect for decorating small windows, especially in the kitchen. They can also be combined with other curtains.

Advice: Do you want to improve insolation and visually enlarge the windows? Fix mirrors at the ends of window openings - the result will exceed all your expectations.

Large windows into the room are an undoubted advantage, which, however, requires a very thoughtful and serious approach.

  • think carefully about sun protection, especially in the bedroom or nursery. For these purposes, inconspicuous roller blinds are well suited, which are easy to hide above the eaves in addition to the main decor;
  • do not be afraid to use multilayer compositions with several types of fabric, lambrequins, tacks and draperies;
  • for bay windows and very large windows, it makes sense to choose a cornice with a motor and remote control of the curtains.

Window decor is not limited to hanging curtains and blinds. You can also use the opening with a window sill more functionally.

In the kitchen, directly at the window level, you can place a worktop and even a kitchen sink. This will not only save valuable square meters, but also allow you to do household chores with good natural light.

In a very modest-sized kitchen, an extended window sill can turn into a small breakfast nook and a kind of analogue of a bar counter that replaces a dining table.

Reminder: in addition to the standard white plastic, there are many design options for the window sill. In the kitchen and in the bathroom, it can be decorated with small tiles left over from the design of the apron. or mosaic, because it is not only beautiful, but also practical.

Workplace on the windowsill

Another practical window design option is to turn it into a workplace. In the bedroom, nursery, living room and even on the balcony, this option will allow you to make the most of solar lighting and save on furniture, just choose a wide tabletop made of a suitable material instead of a standard window sill. However, in this case, we must not forget about roller blinds or blinds so that bright light does not interfere with your work, as well as a sufficient number of sockets for equipment.

A cozy reading nook with a soft seat and an abundance of pillows under the window is the dream of many. If you have wide and low window sills in your house, it is quite easy to implement it, the main thing is to take care of the absence of drafts.
Storage boxes can be placed under the seat or the battery can be hidden behind a special wooden screen.

Advice: a soft seat may not be stationary, it is enough to use a large flat pillow, and put a long and narrow pillow next to the frame so that it definitely does not blow.

Stained glass and stickers

What if your dream window has a breathtaking view of the garbage cans or is it located at the level of the first floor? Try to improve the view from the inside!

The window can be painted with stained glass paints on the glass with a rather uncomplicated pattern or sealed with a translucent stained glass film. Original films with a pattern and translucent stickers are now being produced, which can cover only the lower part of the window, without obstructing the passage of sunlight.

A small window with a bad view is still better than no window at all. But in the course of redevelopment, such gloomy dark rooms without windows appear quite often. To brighten up the oppressive impression, make a small niche in the wall (just a few centimeters deep is enough) and disguise it as the missing opening. To do this, you can use a poster with a perspective drawing or photograph, light draperies that replace curtains, and interior lighting. You can even hang blinds or decorative shutters in a niche, which, due to internal lighting, will look like a real closed window.

Even if you are not a fan of curtains and an abundance of decor, remember that window decoration is a very important part of the interior that you cannot simply ignore if you want to get a really comfortable and cozy home.

In the kitchen, where a considerable part of our life passes, it is assumed that there is a cozy and functional environment in which the central place is given to the window opening. In a room with beautiful windows it is pleasant not only to eat corny, but also to relax.

Without a window and the kitchen is not the same

If you imagine beautiful kitchens with a window in the form of an art gallery, then it will be an endless vernissage, reflecting our view of the world around us. Let's try to take a closer look at the varied design of windows in the kitchen, photos of which are presented in a review article.

How to design a modern window

A modern window in the kitchen does not necessarily need decoration. Minimalist styles often ignore window decoration.

Decor is not required if the window itself is exclusive or has an unusual shape.

But in most cases, elements of decorating the window opening are used to complete the image of the room.

Let's turn to the gallery of photos of windows in the kitchen, which reflects different trends.

Stylistic solutions for window decoration

To properly decorate the window in the kitchen, from the variety of decoration options, you can always choose the one that suits you. Consider the interior of the windows in the kitchen in various styles.

  • Art Nouveau style is distinguished by the use of modern materials.

  • Hi-tech does not use curtains often - the original organza is suitable for this style.

  • In the Scandinavian style, minimal functional decoration is welcome: a light Roman blind or a simple curtain.

  • Curtains-cafe, or "grandmother's window" - the curtains are fixed on the cornice in the middle of the window and do not interfere with the natural light of the kitchen.

  • Country or Provence conquer with ease and simplicity.

Color options: from colorful and bright - in a cage, polka dots, to delicate flowers and pastel shades.

  • French curtains are characterized by an abundance of folds on the fabric, divided into sections. They bring an atmosphere of luxury and celebration into the interior.

Suitable for spacious dining rooms and harmoniously fit into the high window in the kitchen.

It is possible to use them simultaneously with other curtains.

  • Austrian curtains resemble French ones, but they are not assembled along the entire height of the canvas, but only at the bottom.

They are easy to use and look unique in any kitchen.

  • The English curtain is a “modest” version of the Austrian curtain: fabric with folds closer to the edges of the fabric.

Graceful and strict, this curtain can be decorated with cords, ribbons or fringe.

  • Curtains and curtains can be hung on the cornice with the help of eyelets - slots in the fabric reinforced with metal rings. The fabric on the grommets glides easily over the eaves, creating even folds.

These curtains are easy to use and will give the kitchen a discreet sophistication.

Short curtains also lie flat when using eyelets.

  • Roman blinds consist of several transverse sections, which, when lifted, fit into even horizontal folds.

This option does not weigh down the interior and is convenient in small kitchen spaces.

Roman curtains are easy to use and versatile for any style.

  • In roller blinds, the canvas is wound on the shaft from above.

A convenient option when you need to save space at the window opening.

Applying a bright photo print to rolls is popular.

  • Japanese panels - strips of fabric 60-80 cm wide, which move along the window in a horizontal direction.

Panel curtains are functional and easy to care for.

  • Thread or rope curtains will help to decorate the window in the interior of the kitchen - an interweaving of threads or cords located at a distance from each other.

Curtains and tulle - a relic or a classic?

When looking at modern windows, the opinion about the relic does not find confirmation. Everyone wants comfort and a sense of security, which to some extent gives the design of the kitchen window with the help of curtains and tulle.

  • Classic curtains are flat fabrics that fall from top to bottom.

The classic will decorate openings with floor-to-ceiling windows.

In a kitchen with a working area by the window, shortened classic curtains to the windowsill are appropriate.

  • Arched curtains - a replacement for classic short curtains - are made from a whole canvas that forms an arched vault in the central part.

Curtains-arches do not prevent natural light from entering the room, do not hide space and do not interfere with the use of the window sill as an additional work surface.

  • Along with arched curtains, lambrequins are often used to cover the upper part of the window opening and have a decorative function.

Arched lambrequins are very harmonious.

Lambrequins are often combined with other decoration techniques.

Additional ways to decorate plastic windows

In addition to those discussed above, there are other ways to design windows. Some of them are less common, but also worthy of attention.

Blinds

One of the popular ways to functionally design a kitchen window - blinds - are easy to operate and maintain, durable and strong.

  • horizontal blinds - the most common design.

Materials for manufacturing: plastic, aluminum, bamboo, wood or its imitation.

Horizontal blinds can cover both window and door openings.

They take up a minimum of space and are combined with other decoration methods.

  • Pleated blinds with small horizontal folds are not inferior in beauty to curtains.

  • Vertical blinds visually increase the height of the room. There are white, plain, colored.

Multiimpressive vertical models are assembled from plates of different textures and colors, they are appropriate for wide window openings.

Shpros

Shpros - a layout or lattice for a constructive or decorative purpose. Typically used to strengthen glass.

Decorative bars are made from various materials.

Often form an original pattern on the glass.

Internal shutters

Internal or interior shutters - shutters - are installed mainly in country houses.

Shutters are relevant in the south, where they successfully protect the premises from the scorching sun.

However, in the design of the urban interior, shutters are acceptable to give the kitchen an exceptional look.

Glass decor

Stained glass is one of the most beautiful ways to add originality to a room.

Window options in the kitchen, decorated with stained-glass windows in combination with other decorating techniques, look organic and festive.

Window in the middle and other options

A kitchen with a window in the center is the easiest thing to beat when organizing space.

In the following photo, the set by the window in the kitchen fits perfectly under the window opening.

Modern typical houses delight with such an architectural technique as a bay window. You can put a dining table in it.

Or move the work area, which will give rest to the eyes during kitchen work.

It is convenient to arrange a relaxation area in the bay window: a cozy semicircle of the sofa and an abundance of adjustable light are perfect for relaxing after eating.

A bay window decorated accordingly will emphasize the splendor of the dining area in a classic style.

Having a large window in the kitchen in its central part, you can not worry about additional lighting.

The table in the kitchen by the window allows you to admire the beautiful view ...

…and enjoy the sunshine.

If we move away from the central option, then the window in the kitchen to the right or left of the entrance also has a place to be.

With a well-thought-out organization, such a layout does not detract from the merits of the room.

And in a tiny kitchenette you get a full-fledged working and dining area.

If the window is small

In this case, you should not be upset, but use its presence to the maximum. Properly designed interior of the kitchen and the use of bright work surfaces will enhance the luminous flux coming from a small opening.

Do not get carried away with excessive decoration: minimalism is the ideal solution for it.

Even with the right approach, it will decorate the room.

Kitchen with two windows

This is not such a rare occurrence in both old and modern houses.

At the same time, narrow windows look just as interesting as large ones.

2 windows in the corner room

If it so happens that you have a corner kitchen with window openings on adjacent walls, then the work area will be perfectly located in the corner.

It turns out twice the illumination of the workplace ...

…and more opportunities to enjoy the views while you work.

The recreation area will also fit into the corner, open to the world on both sides.

Dining room design with 3 or more windows

More than two windows in a room are less common - as a rule, in private houses with an individual layout or rooms where the kitchen is combined with a dining or living room.

Even if the windows are small, their increased number gives the room a special charm.

For a large room, a lot of windows - quite justified.

Panoramic windows, "looking" in several directions at once, create volume.

Large windows are a gift to the hostess, and a kitchen with a large window to the floor is just a holiday!

Such openings provide ideal lighting and a sense of spaciousness, evoke positive emotions in the presence of a decent landscape behind the glass.

Work area and countertop by the window

If the room is narrow, then you need to pay special attention to how to use the space by the window in the kitchen. Here it is logical to arrange the working area or replace the window sill with a countertop.

A converted window sill or a table from a window in the kitchen can bizarrely bend, forming ergonomic islands.

And in spacious kitchens, the space in front of the window is a favorite place for housewives to work.

Living room with kitchen - more space

It is no longer a novelty for us to combine adjacent premises into a common space: a kitchen with a living room or a dining room.

In many modern apartments, such a combination is initially assumed - for example, in a studio apartment.

The result of the merger is a spacious, multifunctional and light-filled comfortable space.

U-shaped kitchens - when everything is at hand

A common option is a rectangular room in which pieces of kitchen furniture are located on the walls opposite each other.

It is logical that the space under the window be used as much as possible. Most often, in U-shaped kitchens, the end part with a window is used as a workplace.

But you can leave the approach to the window free or organize a seating area.

Various options with a balcony window

Exit from the kitchen to the balcony has its advantages in terms of obtaining additional space.

An interesting option is with a completely glass door instead of a window, and at the same time a balcony.

It is especially sunny in the kitchen with a glazed wall overlooking the balcony. The opening is equipped with a door that does not interfere with movement.

Often a loggia is attached to the kitchen, removing the wall completely or partially. Then the balcony window becomes a kitchen window.

The balcony area, after joining the kitchen, can become a place for eating and socializing.

Or equipped with storage systems, turning into a work area.

In any case, you will not lose by expanding the kitchen space with a loggia or balcony.

Windows in a private house - room for imagination

A private country house is a limitless platform for the realization of any fantasies regarding the organization and decoration of space.

There are practically no restrictions regarding design, and there is no need to coordinate redevelopment.

It is in a country house that the dining room and kitchen with a floor-to-ceiling window organically look.

And you can use in the manufacture of windows of any shape and materials.

Make your choice and decorate the space according to your personal preferences and idea of a beautiful window!

Or they use a change in the decor of window openings to refresh the atmosphere. That is why, when choosing a window design, it is necessary to take into account a lot of criteria. First of all, you need to decide whether your curtains, curtains or tulle will perform an exclusively decorative function or protection from sunlight will be necessary. You will need to take into account the location of the room in relation to parts of the world, the level above the ground (the first floor of an apartment building needs window decoration much more seriously than the windows of a country house, for example) and the purpose of the room, its functionality.

Then, you need to decide whether you want the window decor to become the focal point of your room or to act in the overall color scheme of the interior. Along the way, you can decide on the method of mounting the cornices. If the repair is already over or you are changing textiles in the finished interior, then all that remains is to choose the color and material of the cornice or string system for attaching curtains and curtains.

  • if the walls are decorated with wallpaper with a bright or colorful print, then it is better to give preference to plain curtains and curtains in soothing colors;
  • matte wallpapers look better with silk or synthetic curtain material and vice versa, embossed wallpapers look harmoniously with matte window drapery fabrics;
  • vertical stripes on the curtains visually increase the height of the room;
  • horizontal stripes as a print of curtains or curtains expand the space;
  • curtain rod located under the ceiling visually stretches the room in height;
  • curtains with lambrequins are best not used in rooms with low ceilings.

Let's take a look at specific examples of how you can arrange window openings in modern interiors, what color and texture combinations to prefer, which model of curtains to choose.

Curtains with labrequins

Labrequin is part of the design of the window opening, which is located in the upper horizontal part and hides part of the curtains. Lambrequin can be both hard and soft. It can be a strict geometric figure or gently fall in waves. Previously, labrequins in our country were used mainly in cases where it was necessary to hide some repair defects, window frame installation or other shortcomings in the reconstruction. Currently, lambrequin is increasingly acting solely as a decorative element.

The monochromatic fabric of the curtains with a figured lambrequin repeats the colors used in the textiles of the pillows and furniture upholstery, which allows you to link the entire atmosphere of the room into a harmonious, balanced space.

Curtains with a lambrequin, decorated with a pattern, braid or embroidery look original, while the fabric itself remains plain. For rooms with high ceilings, this window design can be ideal.

A bright pattern of curtains with a labrequin will look luxurious against the background of a plain light wall finish, repeating some of the tones of furniture upholstery or carpeting.

Lambrequin is not always made from the same fabric as the curtains. The window design option looks original with the help of printed lambrequins and plain light curtains. This decoration option can be suitable for both the bedroom and the living room.

And this is already a variant of a soft lambrequin with falling folds, which can be made both from curtain fabric and differ in color and texture from the main textile. Such window decoration will harmoniously look in the classical interior of the room, possibly with the use of baroque or rococo elements.

This is a solid rectangular canvas, corresponding to the size of the window opening, which is assembled into horizontal folds using a cord or chain. Due to its rigor and geometricity, captivating simplicity and functionality, this type of window design will look appropriate in almost any interior. Roman blinds are a great option for draping windows in bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and even kitchen spaces.

Roman blinds can be made from translucent or dense fabrics, with or without a pattern. In addition to the main function - protection from the sun, Roman blinds act as a decorative element of the interior, capable of creating an accent in space.

Often, Roman blinds are used as a translucent window screen, complete with thick curtains or curtains. A similar window decoration model is used in rooms where thick curtains rarely cover the entire window, leaving the opportunity to see the first row of window decor.

Here is an example of window decoration using Roman curtains with a lambrequin. With such an intense wallpaper print, the curtains should have been presented with a more neutral ornament or without it at all.

The name speaks for itself - in the manufacture of such curtains, natural raw materials are used - specially processed bamboo, as a rule, in the form of thin sticks that are sewn together by hand. Obviously, such a canvas will be very resistant to moisture, sunlight and other climatic manifestations.

Bamboo curtains are used both independently and in combination with other types of textile window decoration. They are often used to decorate window openings in kitchens and dining rooms, on verandas and attic rooms, where there is an abundance of sunlight.

These are curtains that are made of corrugated fabric. The basis of this type of window design is the design of blinds. The fabric of pleated curtains can have a different density, texture, appear both in a monophonic version and with a printed pattern. For modern interiors, as a rule, this type of curtain is made of dense or translucent fabric without ornament.

Pleated curtains are very convenient for draping complex window openings, non-standard designs and shapes. It is thanks to the organic combination of warmth and comfort of fabric products and the functionality and practicality of blinds that this type of window opening decor is very popular for decorating both home and office space.

The main feature of this type of window drapery is the roundness of the lower edge of the canvas. Sometimes these curtains are called scalloped because of the characteristic assemblies. If the window is not very wide, then a couple of scallops will be enough; for large window openings, for example, in a living room or a spacious bedroom, several assemblies can be used. Scallops can be decorated with fringes or tassels, but modern interiors tending to minimalism leave decor far behind, preferring options without excessive embellishment.

Austrian curtains will look great in country-style bedrooms or living rooms.

Austrian curtains made of dense taffeta in noble shades can become a decoration for a truly royal interior of a bedroom or living room. If the head of the bed is in a niche decorated similarly to the design of window openings, the interior can be safely called luxurious, delightful, royal.

Eyelets are one of the most practical and reliable ways of attaching curtains to a baguette - these are steel or plastic rings integrated into the upper part of the curtain, a cornice is threaded through them. Such decor for windows can be made from almost any type of fabric, with or without coloring.

Thanks to the eyelets, curtains or curtains can move freely horizontally without losing their shape. Eyelets allow you to create perfect vertical pleats that visually increase the height of your room.

The simplest, most practical, common and versatile way to decorate windows, which is suitable for any room of any style - sliding curtains. Two strips of fabric suspended from the cornice on clothespins, rings or grommets can be used for window decoration both independently and as a set with curtains. They are made from any fabric, in a plain version or with a pattern. They can be assembled with clips or interceptions, decorated with fringe, tassels.

Bright print on the curtains

A colorful, bright pattern of curtains can radically change the look of a room. If your room is decorated in light neutral tones with plain wallpaper or an unobtrusive pattern, then bright printed curtains can become an accent and a focal point.

A large floral pattern on the curtains has become an adornment of the living room-study. The color of the window design echoes the textiles of the pillows and decorative elements, and the steel sheen of the cornices repeats the base material of the table lamp, forming a harmonious interior.

If not for the bright pattern on the curtains, the interior of this office with a small home library would be very modest in the manifestation of color.

For an eclectic living room with snow-white walls, a bright print of curtains looks like an accent, giving the room a feeling of spring freshness and fullness of color.

A bright pattern can be applied not only to curtains, but also to translucent curtains. A Scandinavian-style bedroom with a restrained interior needed an element of brightness and surprise.

Often cornices, in addition to their main function of supporting curtains. They also perform a decorative purpose, acting as an accent, connecting or original element of the interior.

Curtains with horizontal stripes not only add variety to the color palette of the room, act as an accent or link between contrasting color spots in the environment, but also visually expand the space when the window is curtained.

The original way to attach curtains to cornices is to throw the fabric through the tube of the device, in which case you do not need rings or clothespins. To remove the curtains for washing, it is enough to detach the eaves knobs and pull off the fabric. The whole composition looks original and fresh.

We hide the eaves for curtains

A cornice or strings that are attached to the ceiling or in a niche between layers of drywall allow you to create a curtain mount, in which the room will appear higher.

Clamps, interceptions and more

In some interiors, curtains are intercepted with the help of special devices solely for a decorative purpose, in others I pursue the functional loading of the decor of window openings. But the important thing is that in both cases, the windows look well-designed, attractive.

Jacquard curtains always look luxurious, expensive and representative. Jacquard is a high-tech material, in the manufacture of which a detailed study of the ornament is used. The result is an imitation of embroidery, appliqué. The density of the fabric depends on the method of production, the pattern can also be varied. Classic curtains, baroque or empire are great for making from this type of fabric. If you want to create a warm and cozy atmosphere in the room, then the elegance and aristocracy of jacquard curtains will help you with this.

Transparent tulle for window decoration

Often in modern design projects you can find rooms whose windows are decorated only with translucent tulle. Most often, such rooms are bedrooms, for adults or children.

In this children's bedroom, not only the window, but also part of the walls, the sloping ceiling of the attic room are decorated with translucent white tulle.

For the loft style, in principle, window decoration is not typical, but there are exceptions. For huge windows, which used to be in industrial premises, to soften the brutality of industrial decoration and bedroom furnishings, you can safely use snow-white tulle with many vertical folds.

Combinations of different models of curtains in one room

Often there are rooms in which there are several windows of various sizes and configurations, especially in corner rooms. In such spaces, it is logical to allow the use of various types of window openings. As a rule, curtains of different types are made from the same fabric in order to maintain the harmony of the decor and the entire interior as a whole.

The combination of Roman blinds for narrow windows and sliding blinds for large window openings is the most popular and often found in modern interiors of bedrooms and living rooms.

Another option is a combination of sliding curtains on one side and a lambrequin with frills on the other. In this case, we see the use of combinatorics not only in curtain models, but also in the fabrics from which they are made. In combination with furniture upholstery, the whole space of the country-style dining room looks harmonious and attractive.

In this sumptuous dining room, the windows are decorated, it seems, in every possible way - pelmets, pleated blinds, French pleats, fringes. And at the same time. window and door openings do not look loaded, thanks to the lightness of the fabric and the neutrality of the color palette.

Window decoration: 5 original decor ideas with curtains and 7 without them

Most often, window decoration with curtains is the final touch of repair work, which the owners resort to after finishing the decor of the apartment. Framing a window is not only about buying curtains that match the style and color. In this article, I will tell you about the original use cases for seemingly ordinary curtains, and also tell you how to do without them at all.

How not to regret buying curtains

Before you arrange a window in a room, you need to deal with two important points.

  1. Decide for yourself whether the curtains will perform exclusively decorative functions, or they are designed to protect the room from sunlight. Do not forget about the location of windows in relation to parts of the world and their level above the ground (it is impossible to overestimate the need for curtains on the ground floor of an apartment building).

  1. Decide whether you want window drapery to become an interior accent, or to be in the same style and color scheme as the decor.

The following instructions will greatly facilitate the process of choosing curtains for rooms with various features and functionality:

  1. In a room where the walls are decorated with colorful wallpaper, it is better to hang curtains in neutral light shades.
  2. Embossed wallpapers work well with smooth fabrics, while matte wall coverings pair perfectly with synthetic or silk draperies.
  3. Vertical stripes on the material will visually enlarge the ceilings in the house, while horizontal stripes will expand the space.

  • You can also increase the height of the room with the help of a cornice - just place it as high as possible.
  • In small rooms it is better not to use curtains with lambrequins, they will make the space heavier.

When there are no curtains

Smooth flowing curtains made of quality fabric will never go out of fashion, I do not argue with that. But classical dogmas are not suitable for everyone, sometimes you still want to implement some original and stylish solutions. Therefore, I offer you some unusual ideas on how to beautifully and unusually decorate windows in an apartment.

Idea 1. We play on the contrast

With this idea, you will have the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone - to achieve an interesting visual and practical effect. Perhaps it’s worth starting with the purchase of black out curtains, which, thanks to their dense structure, will allow you to fall asleep and wake up in complete darkness.

Despite the advantage of blackout materials, they have two significant drawbacks - the price and the limited number of colors. I can’t help with the first factor, but I’ll tell you how to fix the second nuance.

This is where additional most ordinary curtains come into play, which interested you in a funny pattern or a bright one. Connecting two different models with each other is not difficult.

It remains only to decide which curtains will face the room, and which will face the window. Such an unusual technique can be emphasized by deliberately making lapels, showing a bright lining.

Idea 2. We paint the cornice

As the smallest accessory can completely change the look (women will understand me), so the cornice will easily transform the perception of the window opening as a whole. Tell me, how often do you pay attention to the cornice? But it can greatly improve the appearance of the window.

Since the color scheme of the cornices does not shine with special frills, you can upgrade it with your own hands. Keep in mind a couple of subtleties:

  1. When buying paint, choose a shade that will be in harmony with at least one decor element.. Curtains for these purposes will not work, because the cornice should contrast with them as much as possible.
  2. If you have already decided on such an extraordinary step, do not be afraid to use bright shades, they will not oversaturate the interior.

Idea 3. Pay attention to fastening

If you have a metal cornice, why not decorate it? Of course, it’s not worth hanging with balloons (except on a holiday), but various decorative elements and fastenings will look very interesting.

Accessories of various shapes and colors made of glass, plastic, leather or even wood will decorate the cornice at no extra cost.

Idea 4. Do not forget about accessories

When discussing how to beautifully decorate a window with curtains, think about how to elegantly decorate the curtains themselves. Textile manufacturers offer many additional accessories that allow you to turn curtains into a real work of art. In a specialized store you can buy:

  • holders of unusual shapes;
  • bright beads or braid;
  • original hangers and dividers.

In the photo - examples of the unusual design of the most ordinary curtains

Idea 5. Expanding horizons

I wrote that horizontal curtains help expand the space. Now I want to talk about what to do if you have not found a suitable model with a horizontal pattern.

The only right decision would be to contact a seamstress who can create exclusive curtains for you. A good master will cope with this work with a bang. It is best to purchase material together with a seamstress, because when choosing a fabric, you need to take into account several factors that you may not know about.

Examples of window decor without curtains

Above, I shared some secrets and tricks that can be used in case of using curtains on the windows. In this section, you will learn how to decorate a window without curtains and what design techniques you can use.

Whatever lovers of non-trivial solutions come up with, today you will hardly surprise anyone with “naked” windows without curtains. Below are 7 examples of how a window opening can look stylish without bulky pieces of matter.

Example 1 Magic Moldings

Overhead decorative strips literally dress up the window and can become a highlight of the interior.

  1. A kind of molding "frame" does not have to be completed at the level of the window sill, you can easily extend it all the way to the floor, thereby visually enlarging the window.
  2. The neutral design of the room can sparkle with new colors if you use catchy color moldings.

Example 2: White on white

It seems that a white window against a white interior looks dull and dull? I can assure you otherwise. Selecting a window opening in this case is quite simple.

Relief elements are somewhat similar to stucco bas-reliefs, they will definitely attract attention. At the same time, the decorative motif of the relief will entirely depend on your imagination and the chosen interior style:

  • for classics, these are strict geometric patterns;
  • garlands and mesh are suitable for art nouveau;
  • floral ornaments will decorate the Provencal style.

It is better to paint the slopes with snow-white glossy paint - it will give the surface extra shine and visually expand the opening. For the walls themselves, in this case, it is worth using matte paints.

Example 3. Color play

And here's another idea that breaks outdated stereotypes. If suddenly you order a new window, then why not think about the color of the profile? Maybe you decide to make the window not white?

A snow-white and nondescript kitchen will simply change, one has only to decorate it with a bright window. Colored frames look equally good in small openings, as well as when you have a window not in the center of the wall or a whole group of windows.

Example 4. Parsing brick by brick

If you are lucky, and the walls outside and inside the room are bricked, then this option is definitely for you. Not using brickwork when possible is a real design sin.

Why not take advantage of the idea popular in southern Europe - to plaster the walls without touching the small space at the window or doorway? A small and stylish accent will easily let you forget about the absence of curtains.

Example 5. I look at you like in a mirror

Want to be cheap and effective? Decorate slopes with mirrors, without limiting yourself to specific sizes and shapes. It can be:

  • sheet mirrors corresponding to the size of the plane;
  • small pieces that make up a mirror mosaic;
  • small mirrors in charming frames.

This solution will add perspective and sunlight to the room.

Example 6. Written beauty

If the landscape outside the window is not too pleasing to the eye, then it can be improved with variegated color patterns, for example, in a rustic style. Inspiration can be found everywhere - on a bright Khokhloma scarf, still lifes or painted trays.

For those who have not discovered the artist in themselves, there is a simpler option. Paste the opening with high-quality wallpaper with an unusual pattern - believe me, the result will be no worse.

Example 7. Well forgotten old

If earlier the shutters were used exclusively in terms of practice, now they are a stylish accessory that will look especially good in a wooden house somewhere outside the city.

Reserve Options

In case, after reading all the options above, you still have not decided how to design a window opening, you should familiarize yourself with a few more ideas that I have left in reserve. Who knows, you might find inspiration in them?

  • Decorative adhesive film - an easy and fast way to decorate windows. At the same time, you are practically unlimited in choice, because the range of stickers is extremely extensive. You can decorate the window with your favorite catchphrase, floral or geometric pattern, etc.

Most of the stickers are easily removed so you can update your collection if you want. Agree, this will not work with curtains.

  • Kitchen window decorated with stained glass - an example of good taste and sense of style. Please note that when stained glass decor appears, it becomes the center of the entire interior, other items should only emphasize the significance of the pattern.

  • Another original way to decorate the window and the interior is to place several flower pots on the windowsill. You can go even further and make a couple of horizontal hangers and attach miniature pots to them. Frames decorated in this way will appear a little wider, and bright flowers will brighten up even a cloudy day.

Here are some unusual and cute window decorations you can use at home. Look for more ideas on the video in this article, and I, perhaps, will round off.

Summing up

As you can see, there are many options for decorating window openings. In each room you can use a different type of design, the interior of the apartment will only benefit from this.

Be sure to write in the comments what the most original modern window design you have seen. Tell us how you decided to decorate your windows?

Place mirrors there. This technique will visually expand the window opening, and reflect the composition on the windowsill. Isn't it a nice bonus for such a simple design solution?

2 color

Another way to decorate slopes is to paint them in a bright, contrasting color. Painting in the color of windows will look especially advantageous if the walls in the room are decorated in other colors.

The reception is especially relevant for and in cases where there was no place for the room: a bright, eye-catching window unit will successfully perform this function.

3 decorative panels

Modern manufacturers offer special panels for decorating window slopes. They can be made of various materials, in a certain style, have a textured pattern.

There is a very wide range of such decorative panels for children's rooms - with colorful patterns, drawings of animals or fairy-tale characters, take note.

4 Curtains

Slopes can be completely visually hidden from view by curtains. It looks especially impressive if the cornice is placed directly above the frame, and the length of the curtains corresponds to the height of the window opening (note that for such a reception the room must have very large windows and fairly high ceilings).

5 Tree

Slopes can also be decorated with wood (both in a contrasting shade and in the color of the walls). The option is not the most budgetary, but it is environmentally friendly, durable and effective.

6 Art painting

You can turn a window opening into a real element of art - and decorate the slopes with artistic painting. In many styles (classical, ethnic, neoclassical, eclectic and others), this unusual solution will be very appropriate.

7 Ceramic tiles

You can also lay out slopes or mosaics (in whole or in part).

8 Pictures, posters, photos

If your slopes are very wide, why not place photo frames, posters or? Such a solution will add coziness and individuality to the interior and will be especially appropriate if the window unit is not hidden by thick curtains, but is in plain sight.

9 Any Neat Wall Decor

In general, you can use almost any wall decor to decorate wide window slopes. See how elegant small decorative mirrors look in the example below. The main thing is to focus on the width of the slope and the general style of the situation, take into account the composition on the windowsill and not overdo it.
