Agricultural machinery has become a real relief for farmers and has allowed save a lot of time. Fortunately, now a large amount of work is performed by various agricultural units, the presence of which brings significant relief to any farmer. Particularly popular are walk-behind tractors. Due to the fact that seeders, plows, mowers and much more can be easily attached to the walk-behind tractor, it has become a complete replacement for the horse. How to make it with your own hands - later in the article.

Why do you need a plow

One of the hardest jobs in farming: preparing the land for sowing. After all, in order to get the next crop, the soil must first be loosened. This requires a plow, with which it is easy to move the layers of earth upward.

In order to create furrows as quickly as possible, the plow is attached to a walk-behind tractor. Thanks to the use of this technique, the time spent on processing the field is reduced tenfold.

The principle of operation of such a unit is simple: the cutting edge plunges the blades into the ground, which loosen the soil, before going deep into it.

Due to the draft force, a harrow is created. This principle has been known for a long time, people used it thousands of years ago, so the effectiveness is really time-tested.

The advantages of a homemade walk-behind tractor

To make the cultivation of the land as fruitful as possible, you can not buy a ready-made unit, but make a plow for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands, for example, for a Neva walk-behind tractor. In this case, you can also use the walk-behind tractor Carver, Tarpan, Beam, Texas, Cayman. How to make a plow for a walk-behind tractor yourself?

Video: NEVA motoblock, plowing

Homemade devices have some undeniable advantages:

  • You can calculate the optimal design, slope angles that are suitable for the soil in your field;
  • Selection of a design for the power of your walk-behind tractor;
  • Winning in price, because a home-made device will cost you less than a purchased unit;
  • Confidence in quality, because you are making a plow for yourself;
  • A sense of pride that you are capable of such design achievements.

Various plow designs

First you need to decide on the design of the device, because there are several different types.

The cylindrical view of the plow is different excellent versatility, because it is suitable for almost any type of soil and field size. This form allows you to cope well with crushing the soil. In addition, making such a unit yourself will not be a problem.

The only drawback of this design is the shallow penetration into the ground.

half screw

If you do not need to loosen the ground, but only need to raise the soil layers, then the half-screw shape of the working part of the plow will be an excellent option. She is penetrates deep into the ground, but at the same time practically does not create a loosening effect. It is usually used for heavy soil.

Lemeshny

There are also share plows, but it is quite difficult to make them with your own hands, so you should not consider them.

How to set up a plow

In addition, you need to properly set up the plow: the working part of the edge should be inclined by about 40 degrees, because it is this slope that allows you to make the work as efficient as possible even on difficult ground.

You can familiarize yourself with the advantages of using a mini combine harvester.

The motor cultivator belongs to the category of garden machines that mechanize the work of tillage. The main executive element of the product is a set of rotating cutters that loosen the soil layer and move the cultivator around the site.

Cultivator as a traction unit for a plow

The main condition for such a combination of mechanisms is the creation of sufficient traction for the operation of the plow share.

  • Light garden cultivators with engine power up to 3 HP. with. and weighing 15-40 kg can easily cope with loosening a garden with an area of up to 60 acres, but will not ensure the efficient operation of trailed implements.
  • Medium and heavy cultivators with weight parameters from 40 kg and a power plant from 4.5 liters. with. capacity will successfully process up to 2 hectares of dense soil of the land plot.

On such machines, it is advisable to install additional trailing equipment to expand their functionality.

What should be taken into account?

For the correct selection of materials, the manufacture of the plow itself, the elements of its attachment to the cultivator, it is necessary to understand the principles of operation of the devices, to know their main parameters.

Plow

When applied to the land mass, it overturns the upper layer of the soil. Plowing removes weeds from the soil and damages their root system. The soil is loosened, making sowing of cultivated plants efficient and increasing germination.

mover

The cultivator moves around the site due to the rotation of circular cutters. This method is not suitable for towing a plow. The cutters are replaced with metal wheels with lugs. To increase the grip of the wheels with the ground, additional weights can be placed inside the wheels.

Cultivator transmission

It does not require special alterations, but the assembly was originally designed to work with a cutter. The feed rate may be excessive for the plow, the wheels may spin (slip). In this case, the installation of a creeper is useful - a pulley of a larger diameter on the crankshaft of the engine.

Mounting elements

The hitch is used to connect the cultivator platform with a plow, hiller, potato digger. Products are unified under different models of one manufacturer.

To increase the stability of the machine, taking into account the characteristics of the land, it is sometimes necessary to increase the track of the lugs, which is solved by installing axle extensions.

Do-it-yourself plow for a cultivator

A home master, having the skills to work with metal-cutting and welding equipment, can independently manufacture a plow and its suspension parts using used metal products.

How to make a plow?

Parameters of the manufactured unit:

  • trailer type;
  • plowing depth - 0.25 m;
  • strip width 0.25 m;
  • travel speed - up to 4 km / h;
  • productivity - up to 0.06 hectares per hour.

General scheme of the device

The ploughshare is made of 9XC steel, 3 mm thick. Mounting bolts are installed in the "hidden". The blade blank is cut out of steel 3 with a thickness of 3 mm. The part is fed onto the rolls of the bending machine at an angle of 20°.

Stand, heel, other elements are made of steel strip and corner profile. The dimensions are specified during the trial assembly, the angles of joining of the elements are shown in the sketch:

After a complete adjustment of the components of the product, the seams are finally connected by electric welding, cleaned and polished with a grinder.

Figure 3 shows the option of installing a second plow on a stand, which makes it possible to exclude idle hauls of the unit to the beginning of the strip when plowing in parallel rows.

How to install a plow?

The procedure for installing the plow on the cultivator is as follows:

  1. The cutters are dismantled on the shaft of the executive body.
  2. Wheel lugs are installed, if necessary, extensions are mounted on the shaft.
  3. Plow assembly:
    • align the hole in the hitch with the middle hole in the plow leg and connect with a bolt;
    • install the adjustment device assembly on the rack and hitch;
    • connect the hitch and the cultivator platform with pins.
  4. Plow adjustment:
    • install the cultivator and plow on stands;
    • by turning the adjusting screw, set the angle of inclination from the heel to the toe of the plowshare. Raising the heel up - we increase the depth of plowing, lowering - we decrease it;
    • the distance from the heel to the ground is regulated by rearranging the bolt for attaching the hitch to the plow leg - it should not be more than 3–5 cm, otherwise the plow will “burrow”;
    • finally fix the fasteners.

Motor cultivator and homemade plow are ready to go.

Making a homemade plow is not such an easy task as it might seem at first glance. Despite the outwardly simple design, for proper operation it is necessary to correctly maintain the geometry of the plow, otherwise all efforts will be in vain.

Preparation of tools and materials for work

Do-it-yourself plow design requires a clear action plan and the selection of the right tools and materials. It is advisable to familiarize yourself with the finished drawings of the product in advance. In addition, a home-made product for cultivating the land should be distinguished by its simplicity of design and efficiency of use.

To make a standard version of your own plow, you will need the following:

  • plowshare or steel billet;
  • perforator;
  • steel material for the manufacture of blade and field board;
  • welding inverter;
  • angle grinder;
  • fasteners, in the form of a set of bolts and nuts;
  • metal stand for the manufacture of the base of the plow.

When capturing a layer of soil over 25 cm, the surface and material of the plow are subjected to heavy loads, the consequence of which may be an early wear of the product. As the workpiece material, it is best to choose 9XC carbon steel or hardened steel 45 with a thickness of 4-5 mm.

The plow (shown below in the photo) is one of the main parts of the plow. For ease of use, it is better to make it removable, it will be easier to sharpen.

Next, we begin the manufacture of the working part of the plow body, which is responsible for lifting the soil and turning it into a furrow. There are several ways to make a moldboard. The contact surface of the dump side has the shape of a cylinder. Using bending equipment, it will not be very difficult to produce such a workpiece.

In the absence of equipment, scissors for metal or electric gas welding devices are suitable. On a bending machine, the workpiece is fed onto the shafts at an angle of 20-23 degrees, and a selected punch is used to give the desired radius.

Another option implies the presence of a finished pipe with a diameter of 0.55-0.6 m and a wall thickness of 3-5 mm. A template is made from ordinary cardboard to cover the required area of the pipe, along the contour of which the desired shape is cut using electric and gas welding equipment.

Use a hammer and file to eliminate bulges and burrs. The most difficult way to manufacture a plow is considered to be the manufacture of a workpiece in a metallurgical furnace, followed by editing with a finished matrix (sometimes a tractor plow blade is used).

The workpiece for the body of the product is a sheet of steel with a carbon content of 0.03 to 0.1%, at least 3 mm thick. To maintain dimensions, it is recommended to first assemble the model from cardboard, and then take it as a metal base.

Assembling a homemade product

After all the elements of the future plow are ready, a 0.5x0.5 m sheet metal blank and a welding inverter will be required to complete the work. Parts of the plow are welded to the workpiece with certain angular dimensions: a plow and a side shield. The moldboard part is applied to the surface of the plowshare.

If the angles are incorrectly calculated, the plow blade is brought to the correct shape with a hammer, then it is attached to the rear of the plowshare and to the side shield by welding. After that, a bursting bar and a base in the form of a plate are installed on the shield, on which the corners for the plowshare are attached.

The assembled home-made product for tillage is carefully examined at the places of all welding joints and, in the absence of defects, all seams are finally scalded.

Upon completion of assembly and welding work, the auxiliary sheet is removed using an angle grinder or improvised metalwork tools. Places of welded joints require obligatory cleaning, and the blade and plowshare are treated with sandpaper for standard roughness.

To set the product in motion, it must be attached to the walk-behind tractor. A similar design can also be used in the design of a plow for mini tractors. The difference will be only in the overall and geometric dimensions, depending on what type of mini tractor the product is designed for.

Building a plow with your own hands, in addition to acquiring certain skills, will significantly help reduce labor intensity when working on your site.

Rural work cannot be imagined without machinery; it is necessary both in large and small farms to facilitate the work of farmers and save time. The equipment necessary for plowing, sowing, as well as digging, hilling, that is, for many types of agricultural work, will be able to facilitate work. But each type of work requires its own agricultural machinery. Then there is a need for large financial costs. Therefore, many agricultural producers are asking the question: “What can be done to reduce the cost of funds?” Experts suggest using motor-block equipment for this.

Do-it-yourself designs stand out for a number of advantages, consisting in:

  • optimally carried out calculations with the determination of the angle of inclination required for soil density during field work;
  • selection of power to your special device;
  • economic benefit, since a do-it-yourself unit is cheaper than a purchased variation;
  • the quality of materials and the entire device;
  • feeling of satisfaction and pride for such design achievements.

Important: The walk-behind tractor not only serves as a substitute for a horse due to the presence of draft power. In the process of operation, the device, using it, is able to pull all the devices in the form of seeders, plows, mowers and much more. In this regard, the work will be characterized by maximum productivity and efficiency.

The traction unit itself cannot be made by yourself. Because of this, buying a walk-behind tractor becomes a necessity. But everyone will be able to make different attachments, for example, a do-it-yourself plow for a walk-behind tractor. The cost of a quality tool is extremely high. In the process of self-manufacturing, you do not have to pay for the complete unit, but only for the material. So, how to make a plow for a walk-behind tractor?

Details of special equipment

Any homemade agricultural device has the following details:

  1. Metal pipe, which is part of the supporting structure, necessary for the functional department of the machine;
  2. A working cutting component with or without a bladed element. In homemade construction, a cutter from an old machine is usually used;
  3. Wheels for movement on the ground;
  4. Fixing to the device.

Motor cultivators are often equipped with attachments that have a simple configuration with an adjustable suspension mounted in the direction of the angle of attack.

The main component of a plow for a walk-behind tractor is a knife made of a hardened high-alloy steel substance. The positive side is the ease of operation, which consists in the uselessness of subsequent maintenance.

The moldboard part is bent from a steel material that stands out for its simplicity, and the thickness barely exceeds 2 mm. Mold hard ribbed surfaces to withstand heavy loads. Many craftsmen adapt a two-hundred-liter barrel capacity for these purposes.

The fastening of the knife special part of the screw type is secret. It is made from stainless steel. It stands out for its excellent performance and anti-corrosion properties.

A do-it-yourself plow for a walk-behind tractor is important. It must be equipped with a lifting mechanism having 3 configurations:

  1. Hydraulic. It is usually taken ready-made from old tractor parts;
  2. Screw with manual control. It is distinguished by economic advantages, but less convenience;
  3. Lever with manual control. Considered indispensable for compact machines, operated manually by the operator.

Sample drawings of special equipment

To start work on assembling important special elements, it is worth drawing a drawing. It is needed to think through the device and avoid errors during the assembly process. The special unit should have distinctive features, consisting in the simplicity of special work with a minimum number of elements.

A lot of drawings can be found on the Internet.

Equipment types

There are several species varieties of plow agromechanism. Some farmers include:

  1. Cylindrical, characterized by versatility. It is suitable for use on any land with any size of field plots. Perfectly performs soil crushing. Differs in ease of self-assembly. But the downside is the shallow penetration into the ground.
  2. Semi-screw, suitable for raising the layers of the earth. With deep penetration, there is absolutely no loosening effect. Use on lands with heavy soils.
  3. Lemeshnaya. It cannot be done independently due to large volumes, labor and financial costs. It's easier to buy.

But traditionally, all devices are divided into 3 types:

  1. Single-hull.
  2. Reversible or rotary.
  3. Rotary.

Let's dwell on each in more detail.

Single-hull agricultural model

The first one is easy to assemble with a large number of modification projects. It is optimal to do it yourself. Having ease in manufacture makes it the main thing for the implementation of beginners who are laymen in this activity.

Absolutely no special tools are needed to complete the agricultural model. Everything you need can be found in your home.

Experienced people who have experimented with projects and drawings talk about the need to make a removable type plowshare to be able to sharpen before plowing the soil. Many of the cutting parts are made of 9XC alloy steel materials used in the manufacture of circular saw blades.

They also take 45 steel material, then brought to a hardness of HRC 55 units by hardening. If there is no special raw material, take the usual typology for the manufacture. Although it cannot be hardened, the cutting element is beaten off on an anvil, then sharpened. This makes it suitable for agricultural work with cutting the soil layer.

Reversible plow, homemade

A reversible plow for a walk-behind tractor is versatile. The presence of a reverse manual mechanism makes it possible to turn the soil to one side with the help of a plowshare. The downside is that the whole process constantly has to start from the same angle of the field due to the overturning of the formation to one side.

The rotary agromechanism works in three main planes:

  1. Lateral-vertical skid plane;
  2. Lower-horizontal skid plane;
  3. Anterior dump plane.

In the first variant, when dismantling the moldboard and strap component, the agricultural device is placed on the surface of the table, tightly pressed against the wall, the side of the structure is moved vertically to the wall. In this case, the surface of the tabletop and the horizontal plane of the slide coincide. For a good model of a do-it-yourself reversible plow for a walk-behind tractor, the bottom of the cutting edge when installing the plowshare should be 2 cm below the skid.

Important: When assembling a do-it-yourself reversible plow for a walk-behind tractor, you need to be careful and monitor the maximum match of the parts of the walk-behind cultivator without gaps between them.

In the second option, the side cutting part of the share must be installed directly at the cutting side edge of the blade. These parts of a properly assembled agricultural structure should not protrude more than 10 mm.

In the third option, the working surface of the plowshare and the blade should be connected without gaps with a single-plane position. Details for better work are polished and adjusted, preventing fasteners from protruding. In addition, the cleaned parts are poured with oil or grease, then rubbed with a cloth. This protects the surface from the influence of negative environments and corrosion. Therefore, a reversible plow for a walk-behind tractor is considered the most common model, characterized by a simple assembly process and excellent operational capabilities.

Rotary type of plow agricultural structure

The simplest model of the device necessary for working on the ground is a rotary plow for a walk-behind tractor. Handmade, it is great for a small amount of agricultural work in small areas, because it is not very high performance.

But the plus is that even beginners in this field of activity can carry out the assembly.

It is necessary to first make a cylindrical shape of the blade from alloyed marking metal.

Important: It is necessary to do all projects, having carefully studied the drawing projects.

Having completed the metal parts, install the plowshare by inserting the wedge into the metal sheet 3 mm at 45 degrees, then dock it with the side surface of the shield. Next, attach the share, wheels to the base of the metal pipe.

The manufacturing process is simple. Prepare your workspace by removing unnecessary items. Bring everything you need for the operation:

  • roller tools;
  • mechanism for cutting metal sheets;
  • a tube having a square section with a very thick layer of metallic substance;
  • apparatus for welding;
  • ploughshare;
  • fastenings in the form of screws, nuts;
  • alloyed steel sheet with a thickness of 5 mm.

Important: use alloy steel that can withstand a lot of impact.

So, many agricultural producers cultivate large fields. They want to make their work easier, while spending a small amount of labor and financial costs. A special device for plowing and cultivating the land, made by hand, will help this. Try to perform the presented agricultural devices. For various difficulties, you can watch a video with a story about the sequence of operations.
