When preparing postcards for the New Year, you sort through dozens of congratulations on the New Year - in verse, in SMS, in prose. And all of them are superficial - Happy New Year, new happiness in personal life and at work. We invite you to think a little about the upcoming New Year and read deep and wise words about the holiday. It is possible that they will help you write your real congratulations on the New Year!

Looking back at the past, we see how much we have not been able to accomplish during this year: through impotence, through forgetfulness, through inertia, through our unkind will. And before entering the new time, let's repent before God, admit our mistakes and collect the experience of life from last year, which will allow us not to repeat them and not to make other similar mistakes. The whole meaning of life is only to love God, to love your neighbor, and that everything is done only in the name of this love.

Happy New Year greetings from Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh

What is the most important time in life?

An old tale tells how a certain wise man was asked: “What is the most important time in life? Who is the most significant person in your life? What is the most important thing to do?” And the answer was:

- The most important time in life is the present moment, because the past has flown away, and the future has not yet risen; the most significant person in your life is the one who is now in front of you and to whom you can do good or evil; and the most important thing in life is in this moment, to give this person everything that can be given to him ...

Let's enter the new year with this sense of responsibility and inspiration; let us enter this new year with the faith that the power of God is made perfect in weakness: in our weakness, as it was made perfect in the weakness of the saints, who were strong only by the power of God; Let us believe that all things are possible for us in the Lord Jesus who strengthens us...

And on the eve of the new year, I would like to repeat the words spoken at the beginning of the war by King George VI to his people: “I asked the guard who stood at the door of the new year:

“Give me the light so that I can step safely into the unknown with confidence…

And he told me:

“Put your hand into the hand of God—it will be better for you than light, and more truly than the known path.”

Let us also enter with such confidence and with such faith in New Year; and when we pray that the Lord bless him and us, we will turn our prayers to St. Stephen of Surozh, whose memory we now commemorate, on the first Sunday after the calendar day appointed for the celebration of his memory; let him be that guardian, that goalkeeper who will reveal the new year to us, who will enter it with us and bless us, so that, like him, we make this year the year of God's will and grace.

Much left behind crooked paths

We entered this year as one enters a boundless snowy plain: not a single spot, not a single trace, everything was snow-white clean. And when we look back, we see that we have laid many, many crooked paths. And in this we must repent before God, but repent creatively: not only to regret what was wrong, but having learned, enter the new year with new wisdom, with new understanding.

But besides this - how much light, goodness was in the past year, how much good people gave us, how much good God did to us! And before entering the new year, let us thank both God and people, let us bless those through whom so much light and goodness has come to us in life. The fruit of life, in the end, is only love and gratitude, joy and humility. Let us draw from the past year all the gratitude that we can draw from it, gratitude to kind, affectionate people who have been merciful to us, and gratitude to God, and with this we will enter the new year.

The new year before us again spreads like an opportunity that has not yet been touched by anything. Let us bring inspiration to this year, let us enter this year in order to creatively follow a straight path throughout the year. Let's walk together, let's walk together, let's walk boldly and firmly. The difficult will meet, the joyful will also meet: the Lord gives us both. Difficult - because it is dark, bitter, painful that the Lord sends us to bring light, joy, silence into it; and light, so that we too may partake of the light, be children of the light.

Let us walk together, carefully, not forgetting each other, and then by the end of the year, when we look back, it will turn out that one straight path has been laid, that no one has fallen on the edge of the road, no one has been forgotten, no one has been bypassed, and that many in to our small community and through us - all over the world - love, light, joy. Amen.

What is happiness?

Meeting the New Year, we greet each other with the words: “Happy New Year, with new happiness!” And often we think of happiness only as material well-being, affectionate, happy relationships in the family and with friends, and we forget that happiness can sometimes be demanding and strict. One Russian poet defined it this way:

What is happiness? On the path of life

Where your duty tells you to go;

Do not know enemies, do not measure barriers -

Love, hope and believe.

And if we think in this way about the happiness that we wish for ourselves and others, then we will see that the first thing that is offered to us is love. But love is both a jubilant joy and an ultimate feat. Like exultant joy - in giving and receiving the most precious from a loved one, and at the same time being ready to give one's life for loved ones and unloved ones. When I speak of the unloved, I think of those whom we naturally do not love, but whom God loves so much that He gave His Only Begotten Son to death that they might be saved.

Let us think about what love means as jubilation, love as a cross, and let us enter the New Year with the intention of loving and hoping—hoping for everything. As the apostle Paul says, love hopes for everything and believes in everything, love never ceases. He hopes for everything: for the correction of the person who hates us, and even for the correction of ourselves. He hopes that God will give us time to improve and give another time to come to his senses and become a new person in the image of Jesus Christ who created him and saved him. And then we can say: yes, we believe, we believe in God's love, we believe in the infinite possibilities of each person, we believe that even we, in our weakness, in our unworthiness, are capable of being Christ's disciples.

We are entering a new year. Looking back at the past year, we see so much terrible in the world and so much bitterness in the lives of many, many people, including ourselves. And now, entering into this new year, let us offer God sincere, heartfelt repentance that we have turned out to be unworthy of His disciples. He loved us to death - and this was not enough to change our lives. And if you look at what the world was like during the last year or two thousand years that have almost passed, then how painful it is! Think that in a little less than two thousand years, there were about three thousand wars of some Christians against others, not to mention how much blood was shed by people who are not of the same blood, not of the same faith. Is this why the Lord sent us into the world, or did He instruct us to bring the Good News of a new life? And now let us think about what we have done with the creation of God, how we have mutilated the earth, how we have defiled it, how we have mutilated all human relations, both personal and public.

Looking at the past year, I think with pain in my heart how I turned out to be a traitor to Christ, how I turned out to be a traitor before each of you and all of you and many, many other people. I ask you to pray that the Lord would give me time and shake my soul in repentance, and that this would happen to each of us, that each of us would be reborn. On the one hand, from horrors about the past, on the other hand, from jubilation that we are so loved by God, and that it would be so easy to love each other, serve one another, be attentive, strict and affectionate at the same time. And let us enter this new year with the intention of becoming true disciples of Christ and loving each other with our lives, with our whole lives. Amen.

Happy New Year greetings from Protopresbyter Alexander Schmemann

What to make a wish for the New Year?

There is an old custom: on New Year's Eve, when the clock strikes at midnight, make wishes, turn to the unknown future with a dream, wait for something necessary, cherished from it.

And here again the New Year. What do we wish for ourselves, others, everyone, everyone? Where is our hope directed?

It is directed to one never dying word - happiness. Happy New Year with a new happiness! Happiness is addressed to each of us in our own way, personally. But the very belief that it can be, that it can be expected, hoped for, is a common faith. When is a person truly happy?

Now, after centuries of experience, after all that we have learned about a person, it is no longer possible to identify happiness with something one, external: money, health, success, which we know that it does not coincide with this always mysterious, always elusive concept - happiness.

Yes, it is clear that physical contentment is happiness. But not complete. That money is happiness, but also torment. That success is happiness, but also fear. And the amazing thing is that the greater this external happiness, the more fragile it is, the stronger the fear of losing it, not saving it, losing it. Maybe that's why we talk about new happiness at midnight on New Year's Eve, because the "old" never really succeeds, because it always lacks something. And already again forward, with a prayer, a dream and hope, we look ...

Winter day. photosight.ru

My God, how long ago the gospel words were said about a man who got rich and built new barns for his crops and decided that he had everything, all the guarantees of happiness. And calmed down. And that same night he was told: “Mad! This very night your soul will be taken from you; Who will get what you have prepared?

And, of course, here, in this latent knowledge that nothing can be retained anyway, that decay and the end are still ahead - that poison that poisons our small and limited happiness.

Perhaps that is why the custom arose - on New Year's Eve, as the clock begins to strike at midnight, make noise, shout, fill the world with roar and noise. It is from fear - to hear in silence and loneliness the beat of the clock, this inexorable voice of fate. One blow, a second, a third, and so inexorably, evenly, terribly - to the end. And nothing can be changed, nothing can be stopped.

So these are the two truly deep, indestructible poles of human consciousness: fear and happiness, horror and dream. That new happiness that we dream about on New Year's Eve is a happiness that would pacify, dissolve and defeat fear to the end.

Happiness, in which there would be no this horror nestling somewhere in the depths of consciousness and from which we protect ourselves all the time - wine, worries, noise - but whose silence conquers all noise.

"Crazy!" Yes, in essence, the undying dream of happiness in a world stricken with fear and death is insane. And at the top of his culture, a man knows this. With what bitter truthfulness and sadness the words of the great love of life Pushkin sound: “There is no happiness in the world”! What lofty sadness pervades all genuine art! Only there, below, the crowd roars and bawls and thinks that happiness will come from the noise and muddy fun.

No, it comes only when a person truly, courageously and deeply peers into life, when he removes from it the covers of lies and self-deception, when he looks into the face of fear, when, at last, he finds out that happiness, genuine, lasting, undying happiness, - in a meeting with Truth, Love, with that infinitely high and pure that man has called and still calls God.

“In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And in this life there is light, and darkness cannot embrace it. And this means: not to be swallowed up by fear and horror, not to be dissolved in sadness and despair.

Oh, if people, in their fussy thirst for instant happiness, would find the strength in themselves to stop, think, peer into the depths of life! If only they could hear what words, what voice are eternally addressed to them at this depth. If only they knew what true happiness is!

“And no one will take away your joy from you!..” But isn’t it about such a joy that can no longer be taken away, do we dream when the clock strikes?.. But here’s how rarely we reach this depth. How for some reason we are afraid of it and put everything off: not today, but tomorrow, the day after tomorrow I will deal with the main and eternal! Not today. There is still time. But there is so little time! A little more - and the arrow will approach the fatal line. Why postpone?

After all, right here, someone is standing nearby: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” And if we were not afraid to look at Him, we would see such light, such joy, such fullness, that we would probably understand what this elusive, mysterious word happiness means.

New Year's greetings from St. Barsanuphius of Optina

With joys and sorrows

I greet you all, gathered here, with the New Year. I congratulate you on the joys that the Lord will send you in the coming year.

I also congratulate you on the sorrows that will inevitably visit you this year too: maybe today, maybe tomorrow or soon. However, do not be embarrassed and do not be afraid of sorrows. Sorrows and joys are closely connected with each other. It seems strange to you, but remember the words of the Savior: A wife, when she gives birth, Imat sorrow, as if her year has come: when she gives birth to a child, who does not remember sorrow for joy, as if a man was born into the world"(John 16:21). Day follows night and night follows day, inclement weather is a bucket; so sorrow and joy succeed one another.

The Apostle Paul uttered a formidable word against those who do not suffer any punishment from God: if you remain without punishment, you are illegitimate children. Do not lose heart, let those who do not believe in God lose heart; for those, of course, sorrow is heavy, since, apart from earthly pleasures, they have nothing. But believers should not lose heart: through sorrows they receive the right to sonship, without which it is impossible to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

“Fathers, educate with piety, neglect the evil commandment, fear not the fiery rebuke, but, standing in the midst of the flame, I will sing; Fathers, God, blessed be Thou." (Irmos of the Nativity of Christ, tone 1, song 7.)

Sorrow is a fiery ban, or a test, but we should not be afraid of them, but, like reverend youths, sing of God in sorrow, believing that they are sent by God for our salvation.

May the Lord save us all and lead us into the Kingdom of Unsetting Light! Amen.

Pavel Nosach

New Year You give us, Father, and new life.
It is so difficult in this world, my God, we can live without sinning!
But You gave the Son for me and said - hold on to Him!
Trust in Him, that by faith the soul may be saved!

Sparkling snow is spinning outside the window,
There are countless beautiful moments today.
So let the old year say goodbye to you,
And the new one brings you good news!

The year is over. It remains to be said:
For joy and pain - thank God.
We had time to love and dare,
Sharing sorrows and worries.
Sometimes the road was rough
And visibility plummeted
But the Good Father kept us from evil
Amid squalls prickly and daring.
What will mark the beginning of the year -
Sadness or happiness immeasurable?
It is good for us to remember: "This too shall pass"
And mercy will always be with the faithful.

Everything will be done with love. (1 Corinthians 16:14)

May the Lord bless you and keep you!
May the Lord look upon you with His bright face and have mercy on you!
May the Lord turn His face towards you and give you peace!
Numbers 6:24-26

My friends, I want to wish you
All the best for the coming year!
Catch your luck by the wing!
For the Lord to take trouble away from you!

I wish you to be healthy all year long!
I wish you all warmth!
May you always be lucky in all matters!
Stability, prosperity and kindness

We wish you a sparkling night
Colored mysterious lights.
And whatever your heart wants
Let it come true soon.
Let the cold not disturb the soul,
Winter does not bring sadness
And joy warms in the cold,
And let happiness be with you!

White hoarfrost on a birch,
Snow crunches underfoot
And in the dark sky
The New Year is fast approaching.

Let the frost crack at times
Hands freeze in the wind
But with a warm heart
Jesus, I'm coming to you.

On this New Year's holiday
He can have fun
In whose heart is the love of the Lord
And a fruit rich in faith.

Let the blizzard wind blow
Covering a trail in the garden
We need a Savior
In the coming year.

The year ends. On this night of debriefing
When the past days and ways are remembered,
I just want to come with gratitude to God,
Offer a prayer to Him.

Thank you, Creator, for a miracle - a living planet,
Where Your beauty shines in every blade of grass,
Where everything sings glory to You ... And before this music
The lips are humbly silent.

Praise Jesus! You are the embodiment of the Father's love -
Divine Son, descended from Heaven for the sake of mortals,
Knowing labors, and suffering, and humiliation,
You died for us and rose again.

Thank you, my God, for the immense joy of the saved,
For this big, congenial family
Redeemed by the Blood (and before - condemned to death),
For the Church - Your Bride.

Thank you, Lord, for the roads of the past year,
For joy and pain, for distant and close people,
For the gift of your faith, for the fact that in any weather
Kept under His hand.

Forgive me Father. I am still an ungrown child,
Sometimes I stumble on the narrow path of being...
But I believe in Your righteousness, and there is no other need.
May Your will be done!

With the New Rock and the Rizdvom of Christ
I want to welcome you this year.
Hai in life we will clean everything, new,
To know God's grace.

I pray the peace of God to you,
Accept the Lord Savior in your heart,
So that the soul aspired to paradise,
To glorify God with all our lives.

Only life from God is perfect.
Wine is our truth and life.
Win road. In Nyoma, there is only hope,
Our light is eternal future.

I pray for purity of heart,
Be calm, inspired to go.
May the Lord help everyone.
With God you can overcome everything:

Bіl, loss and rozcharuvannya.
Lish the Lord heal the hearts of wounds.
So come to New without a wagon -
The living God can never be deceived.

Only Vіn knows us better,
Skin damage of the heart, thought, mrії;
Podіymaє wasted, lost
And revive the dead.

If it's so important in life,
God in bіdі never leaves.
Change your life for good
Only God is able and omnipotent.

Htos rejoices in our sick body.
God healed the sick soul.
Those who have God, no one can.
To love everyone generously, without primUsu.

I believe that love was known
God, you have opened your heart
Lord, for there is nothing more
In the world of joy. I say openly.

Well, I'm folding the Lord
In my heart, open, as I will;
Yogo im” I praise and magnify -
God is almighty, eternal and united!

Let's celebrate the New Year together again,
Not at the table, but kneeling.
What will it be, what will it bring us?
We get lost in conjectures and worries.

So I want it to be easy for everyone,
To sing more, smile more often.
So that the gentle Father's warmth
Your soul, like the sun, warmed.

Let troubles bypass you
Let faith grow stronger in life's journey.
And every day, and every moment, and hour, -
Put your trust in God!

May your spirit be renewed this night,
Let the heart bow in trembling before God.
He is our strength, He is everything in everything!
He paved the way for us to heaven!

Pray, sing, rejoice, live
For the glory of God, you are His creation!
And on this night with all your heart praise
The Majesty of God in harmonious hymns!
