The territory of the island is 34,000 sq. km. The name is translated into Russian as "an island south of the sea." The central and southern parts are covered with dense forests, mango, banana, pineapple, coffee, tea and coconut plantations.

Hainan is a small island washed by the South China Sea, belonging to China and being one of its full-fledged provinces. This island is a real tropical paradise, snow-white beaches, gentle sea, palm trees with coconuts, coral reefs, everything you need for an amazing, carefree vacation.

On about. Hainan has introduced a visa-free regime for Russian tourists (entry according to the lists), that is, tourists who flew to the island by direct non-stop flights, purchased a tour through a tour operator and plan to rest on the island for up to 21 days, no visa is required. But if you decide to get to Hainan through some other city (for example, fly to Beijing, and from there go to Hainan by train or decide to visit another Chinese city, for example Guangzhou), then you will need to obtain a Chinese tourist visa.

My acquaintance with Fr. Hainan started from the capital city of Haikou, a tropical city with active construction and a transportation hub, from which you can conveniently reach the northern cities of Hainan, as well as fly to many cities and sail to the nearest cities on the mainland, such as Beihai and Zhangjiang. Haikou attracts with a huge variety of parks and reserves. The world-famous Mission Hills Haikou Hot Springs Resort is a 20-minute drive away. This hotel is loved by many famous guests who come to play golf, as there are a huge number of golf courses of varying difficulty, as well as a unique Spa complex with thermal springs. Its uniqueness is thematic zones, and these zones are divided into countries, for example, you can find yourself in Egypt among the pyramids or in Africa, where you will be surrounded by tropical forests and African animals.

A 5-minute drive from Mission Hills Haikou is Mission Hills Town, an interesting place to see houses, streets, shops as they looked in pre-war China.

The next is Nantian Bay, it is famous for thermal springs, often tourists visit in a combination tour or just come to spend the whole day in the thermal complex. We stayed at the Sanya Yiyang Nantian Hotspring Resort Hotel, about 3-5 minutes walk from it and you are in the thermal complex. The complex is a huge territory surrounded by greenery among which there are baths with thermal water, water in each bath of different temperature and various additions, there is a bath with wine, rose petals, coconut milk, lime, etc. Also on the territory there is a small water park for children, a swimming pool for adults and a children's area with plain water and around a recreation area with sun loungers and umbrellas. On the territory there is a restaurant and a cafe where you can have a bite to eat, as well as massage, Chinese, with herbs, stones, etc. the cost of a Chinese massage for 60 minutes is 90 yuan, that is, 900 rubles.

Next, we went to Haitangbei Bay, located 50 minutes drive from Phoenix Airport and 27 km from Sanya city. In this bay, almost all hotels are located on the first coastline. Rest in this bay suggests secluded and calm. It is planned that Haitangbei Bay will become a tourist mecca for luxury holidays on the island of Hai'an. Luxury hotels of world brands are located in this bay: Hyatt, Westin, Sofitel, Double Tree, Sheraton. And Haitangbei Bay is in a prime position to visit Nan Tian Hot Spring just 15 minutes away, Monkey Island, Wuzhizhou Island Water Fun Center. Yanoda Tropical Park is a 30-minute drive away. This bay is very loved by tourists from Hong Kong. And our compatriots vacationing in the high season is only 3%.

Yalun Bay, located 28 km from the city of Sanya. Yalunwan Resort is one of the most comfortable and prestigious resorts in Hainan. Mostly high-class hotels: Palace Resort 5 *, MGM 5 *, HuaYu 5 *, Marriot 5 *, Universal 5 *, each has an English and Russian-speaking representative. Most of the hotels in this resort have their own beaches, which, of course, is a definite plus of this resort. The beaches are distinguished by clean, white sand, the sea with a gentle entrance, a great place for families with children. Tropical forests descending from the mountains make the Yalunwan resort even more attractive. The infrastructure of the resort is located, isolated from the hotels, that is, no discomfort is delivered to vacationers. In Yalunwan Bay, all cafes, restaurants, supermarkets are located in food cords, the so-called "restaurant streets", where you can find bars, Chinese restaurants, Starbucks cafes, various souvenir and food stores. The cost and menu of some restaurants is presented below.

The most popular bay among tourists is Dadonghai. In the resort area of Dadonghai Bay, there is simply a sea of entertainment for every taste, diving, fishing, many restaurants, bars and cafes, including those with Russian cuisine, Anans, Winter and Summer shopping centers, fruit shops, in the evening the city is alive. The cost in cafes and restaurants is much lower than in other bays of the island. The beaches in Dadonghai are municipal, umbrellas and sunbeds for an additional fee, about 100 rubles. But there are hotels with their own area on the beach. Hotels are mostly with a small territory, there are no Russian-speaking staff, and English is not spoken everywhere.

China is famous for its medical centers, two of the most famous are located in Dadonghai, the center of traditional Chinese medicine "Garden of Longevity" is located next to the Pearl River Garden 4 * hotel, a free transfer is organized to this center from the hotel where you live, then an initial examination is carried out, accompanied by Russian-speaking staff and, based on the results of the examination, a number of procedures are prescribed (acupuncture, massages, individual collection of herbs). Another sanatorium of traditional Chinese medicine, which is often visited by tourists, is "Taiji", which is also a major international medical and diagnostic center in the city.

Next, we visited Sanyabey Bay, it is located closest to the city of Sanya, and closest to Phoenix International Airport, where all flights from Russian regions arrive. Hotels in Sanyabey Bay are of different star categories, but they are all located across the road from the sea, regardless of the 5 * and 3 * hotel. The beach is municipal, but some hotels have their own area on the beach. The infrastructure is at some distance from the hotels, that is, it takes about 10-15 minutes to walk to cafes or restaurants or 4-5 minutes to drive. But you can use local rickshaws, the Chinese drive along the embankment and offer tourists to bring you to the street with a cafe or to a specific place for 5 yuan. It takes 15 to 50 minutes to drive from Sanyibei to the city of Sanya, it depends on the location of the hotel. For example, from the Palm Beach 5 * hotel, it takes about 50 minutes by bus, 40-35 minutes by taxi. The bay and the city of Sanya are connected by excellent transport links, every 200 meters there are bus stops, the city can be reached by bus number 4, number 2 or by taxi.

At the end of our trip to Hainan Island, we visited Shenzou Bay. A beautiful bay with breathtaking scenery, a wide beach line and beautiful sea. Four Points by Sheraton Shenzhou Peninsula 5* hotels and next to it Sheraton Shenzhou Peninsula Resort 5* are located in this bay. Rest in this bay is supposed to be calm, for those who want to take a break from the bustle of the city. The hotels are surrounded by rice fields and a small quarter with about 4 cafe restaurants, a supermarket and a pharmacy. The Four Points by Sheraton Shenzhou Peninsula 5 * hotel provides a free shuttle service to Waning city 3 times a day, where you can buy fruits, there is a cafe and a small shopping center.

And next to Shenzou Bay, it's only a 10-minute drive to Shimei Bay. In this bay there is a beautiful hotel with an atmosphere of tranquility and complete relaxation Le Meridien 5 *, all guests are greeted with live music performed by Filipino musicians. The main feature of the hotel is an open-air cinema! Everything about this hotel is unique! Rest in it is a pleasure!

A few nuances to consider when visiting Hainan Island:

  • On the island, our Russian telephone operators do not work, but the Internet works fine and you can communicate via Viber or Whatsapp.
  • All hotels on the island of Hainan take a $100 deposit upon check-in.
  • Throughout China, including the island of Hainan, only yuan is accepted in circulation (today 1 yuan = 8.89 rubles), when arriving on the island, you need to change dollars for yuan at the reception at the hotel or at the China Bank.
  • Difference from Krasnoyarsk +1 hour.

The most popular excursions on Hainan Island:

Ethnographic village of Li and Miao. The territory of the village is a beautiful park area with many tropical trees and flowers. Among the thickets there are many houses traditional for the Li and Miao peoples, but in fact this village is not residential, it was created to acquaint tourists with the culture of the peoples who inhabited these lands.

Nanshan Buddhism Center- This is the largest Asian Center of Buddhism. Its territory is a huge park in the form of a temple complex, above the temple there is a 108-meter statue of the goddess, significantly exceeding in height even the well-known American Statue of Liberty in New York. The sculpture of the goddess Guanyin in Hainan is listed in the Guinness Book and is considered the greatest Buddhist shrine, as it contains particles of the ashes of Buddha Shakyi Muni, the founder of the religion, who lived in this world two and a half thousand years ago.

monkey island, is considered the largest reserve in the Middle Kingdom, where monkeys are bred. In total, about 2,000 individuals live on its territory, and the reserve itself covers an area of 1,000 hectares. Throughout the territory of the Hainan monkey reserve there are direction signs in different languages, and Russian is one of them, so despite the huge area, it is unlikely to get lost here. At the entrance to the reserve, tourists must be instructed, according to which macaques must not be scared, teased and fed. Even attempts to touch them can lead to unpredictable consequences. However, not all monkeys living on the Island are in the wild. The reserve has its own theater and circus with trained individuals performing complex tricks and tricks. Walking through the park, you will also have the opportunity to take unusual photos with trained monkeys that will pose for you.

Romantic Park, the show "Back to the Past" before the start of the show, you can walk around the stylized ancient city, on the streets the real life of past centuries. In the late afternoon, the show “Romantic Park” itself begins directly in terms of entertainment, it is in second place in the world, in first place is the Du Soleil circus, unsurpassed in scale and acrobatics. Several dozens of acrobats, dancers and stuntmen participate in the production of the performance. The show itself tells about the history of the city of Sanya - everything is in Chinese, but it doesn’t bother you at all, since everything is staged theatrically, and the number of artists, acrobats, costumes and scenery changes are simply impressive!

Yalun Rainforest- this is one of the best places in Hainan to get acquainted with the local nature, more than 1500 hectares of tropical forests! Here you will have the opportunity to walk along the 160-meter suspension bridge (Lovers' Bridge), admire the Orchid Valley, see the Buddha Stone, visit the Dragon Square and climb to the very top of the mountain (450 meters), enjoy the magnificent views of the coast of Hainan Island.

There are still a lot of interesting places on Hainan Island and there is much more to tell, it is best to see everything with your own eyes.

O. Hainan is a beautiful place worth visiting, like many other corners of our planet. I will return to Hainan with pleasure again and I know for sure that I will discover something new for myself.

The best resort in the Celestial Empire, "Eastern Hawaii" and the main Chinese health resort Hainan in the past was an exiled island for nobles. Today, only the lazy did not hear about him. A good half of Siberia and the entire Far East treat their ailments and ailments here, at the same time betraying their mortal bodies to the warm turquoise waters of the South China Sea. It’s even boring to describe the traditional picture of Hainan beaches - everything is luxuriously banal to the gnashing of teeth: here they are, emerald palm trees, snow-white sand and azure waters. Let's talk about the chips of Hainan, this island has plenty of them.

Firstly, Li and Miao are the main ethnic groups in Hainan, arranging amazing funeral and wedding ritual shows for tourists, which makes this corner of China completely different from the rest of the country. Secondly, fruits - rambutans, lychees and other exotic fruits in Hainan will become the main meal at any time of the day or night, since you will not try such an abundance of goodies anywhere else. Further, in a special introduction is not needed. And, finally, a surprise for all the lazy people who vacationed in Hainan: a rich cultural heritage, which should be looked for not in the south, where all the resorts are concentrated, but in the north, where, in fact, the tired emperor was exiled to know.

How to get to Hainan

You can get to Hainan from almost anywhere in Russia, including Siberia and the Far East. There is no direct flight connection with the island's airports (with the exception of charter flights from Moscow), several airlines offer flights with connections in different cities of China. Muscovites and Khabarovsk residents have options with one change, while St. Petersburg and residents of other regions have only two.

Cities and resorts of Hainan

For lovers of outdoor activities in the vicinity of Sanya there are all conditions for diving, surfing, paragliding, cycling and fishing.

By the way, the Chinese come to the beach not so much to swim, but just to sit, admire the sea and watch the white aliens in their natural habitat. The Chinese themselves prefer to stay away from the sea - it's cheaper.

The entrance to the water in all the bays is smooth and gentle, it is very shallow near the shore, so swimming is convenient and safe even with small children. The territory of the beaches is conditionally divided between hotels, but there are no fences, you can relax where you like. Entrance is free almost everywhere, showers, changing rooms and toilets too. The only thing you have to pay for is sun loungers and umbrellas (20-50 CNY) and all kinds of water activities (from 200 CNY for a trip on a boat or "banana" to 1000 CNY for fishing on a specially equipped boat).

Treatment

On the island, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, pulmonary, skin and urological diseases, rheumatism, osteochondrosis and hypertension are treated. Treatment on the island excludes any form of surgical intervention and is carried out exclusively by traditional Chinese methods in combination with the use of natural medicines. The center of traditional Chinese medicine "Garden of Longevity" in the Dadonghai area at the Pearl River Garden Hotel is well-known. Another center, SanYiTang, is located in Sanya, and not so long ago, a branch of this clinic opened in Yalong Bay, at the Cactus Resort Hotel.

Other popular centers are Taiji and Yu-Kang. The Nantian medical complex, on the territory of which there are more than 30 pools with water of different temperatures and chemical composition, will also help improve your health.

Journey to Hainan Island

Diving in Hainan

The rich world of the depths of the South China Sea has been providing the island with a steady influx of divers from all over the world for several years now. Visibility under water there is more than 20 m, and diving is possible all year round due to the stable mild climate and the absence of strong currents. Sometimes, however, echoes of southern storms reach Hainan, and then divers are forced to give way to surfers for several days.

Popular dive sites: Xiaodonghai Bay (two wrecks: cargo ship and boat, depth 15 m), Yalongwan (densely populated coral colonies, 18 m), Houhai Bay (corals and underwater rocks with grottoes, 30 m), Fenjiezhou Island (rocks and wrecks, 25 m).

Shopping and stores

The hallmark of Hainan is pearls, which are famous for their regular shape and variety of colors. Tea, rock crystal, silk, porcelain, wood carvings, Buddhist souvenirs and Feng Shui symbols are also brought from the island.

You can first try different varieties of Chinese tea in tea houses scattered throughout the island, and then buy the one you like.

Haikou's Haikou Dungeon Street is home to high-end shops, and art crafts can be purchased at the market at the Cape's End of Sky and Sea. In the city of Sanya, the main department stores are located on Liberation Street in the city center.

Not so long ago, a Tax free system was introduced on the island, but so far only in a few stores. The amount of purchases must be from 800 to 5000 CNY, VAT refund - 11%.

What to try

Entertainment and attractions

Arriving in Hainan, you must definitely set aside 2-3 days and ride around the island in search of beautiful views and interesting sights. They are in abundance here.

To get to know Buddhist culture better, you should go to Nanshan Temple. Not far from it, on an artificial island, stands the world's tallest statue of the goddess Guanyin, and in the sanctuary - a dozen sculptures of the Buddha himself.

From the observation deck in front of Nanshan, a picturesque view of the sea and a giant statue of a bodhisattva opens up.

Bethel Nat Ethnic Park is located 30 km from Sanya. It is dedicated to the life, customs and traditions of the small Li and Meow peoples. Scattered throughout the territory are huts where you can learn about tattoos, dialects and other features of the locals.

The Sky Grottoes are the oldest attraction in Hainan.

Hainan has many picturesque natural parks and reserves. In one of them, on Monkey Island, more than 2,000 tailed inhabitants live. You will have to get here by funicular, but you can admire the island and the South China Sea surrounding it. Another entertainment is fishing on rafts, there are also small restaurants serving excellent seafood dishes.

Another park, Sky Grottoes, is considered the island's most ancient landmark. It was founded almost 1000 years ago. Today, South Mountain attracts tourists with beautiful views and historical buildings, among them - the temple of the Dragon King of the South China Sea, which houses a statue of the ruler himself, and the Wall of Records on top of the mountain. In addition, the Sanya Natural History Museum is located on the territory of the Taoist Park.

The resorts of Hainan are well suited for families with children. Most 4 and 5 * hotels are equipped with play areas, small pools with slides, a daily entertainment program and a children's menu in the restaurant.

Not so long ago, a large modern water park opened in Sanya. It is divided into 3 zones - children, children and teenagers and adults. There is a pool with artificial waves, which is also divided into 2 parts - in one the tide is very weak, in the other a real storm is raging.

On the shores of the picturesque Dongshanhu Lake, there is the largest natural zoo in the Asian region (official site in English). Here are collected animals from different parts of the country - elephants, giraffes, monkeys, spotted deer. There are also dangerous predators - lions, tigers, crocodiles, so the tours are conducted by jeeps or buses. This place bears little resemblance to our familiar zoo with cramped cages. Animals are kept in conditions as close to natural as possible. The zones are separated, but the enclosures are so spacious that their borders are almost invisible. Peaceful inhabitants can be approached, stroked and fed.

March there are many Chinese in the resorts, and from February to May they are occupied by Europeans.

From ancient times, no one cared about Hainan Island. There were no minerals or arable land here, it never had an important strategic value. Around 100 BC, the Chinese Han Empire decided to conquer the island and even built several fortresses on the coast. But, in the end, it was decided that “the game is not worth the candle”, and the Chinese retreated.

From that moment on, Hainan became a haven for fugitive Chinese who were hiding from political repression or from justice. There were no authorities here, and no one was ever looked for here.

Hainan was originally inhabited by the Li people, but gradually the island was colonized by the Chinese - these are the Han people. This colonization took 2000 years and was very peaceful. Even now, Li people make up 15% of the local population.

Tourists like to show the elements of Li culture, this gives the island an extra flavor. Their culture resembles a cross between Chinese and Polynesian (see photo on the left).

Compare this to what the Spaniards and the British did during the colonization of America, and you will understand that the Chinese are traditionally a peaceful nation.

The first shock here occurred in 1939, when the Japanese captured this territory. The inhabitants of the island waged a guerrilla struggle, and the Japanese in response killed everyone they could get to. Between 1939 and 1945, a third of the population died here. The Japanese used the island as a base for their invasion of Thailand and the Malay Peninsula. Japan expected success, Thailand and Singapore were captured by them.

After World War II, the island was under the control of the Chinese Kuomintang party, but in 1950 the communists of Mao Zedong retook it. It is believed that this was the main rehearsal for the assault on the stronghold of the Kuomintang party - the island of Taiwan, but the conquest of Taiwan did not take place.

Until the 80s, everything was quiet in Hainan, until a special economic zone was founded here, and the rapid development of tourism began. Now highways, railway lines and other infrastructure facilities are being actively built here.

It is due to the lack of useful resources that Hainan has remained a “paradise on Earth”, where everyone can come and spend an unforgettable vacation. Plants and factories were not built here, they did not have time to destroy nature.

However, minerals are present in this land, iron ore, copper, gold and silver are mined here. But these resources have become available for development only recently.

Hainan Island (Jade Paradise, Hawaii of the East) is a tropical island off the southern coast of China, one of the best resort areas in Asia.

Ecology, mild unique microclimate, warm and clear South China Sea, 300 sunny days a year, dozens of kilometers of beautiful sandy beaches, picturesque bays, relict nature of the island, well-equipped radon and other thermal springs, professional golf courses, magnificent landscape parks, ethnographic villages of aborigines - the Li and Miao peoples - these are the features of the island that put it among the best resorts in the world.

Pearls are a symbol and pride of Fr. Hainan, as well as the subject of traditional craft of local residents. It is in the South China Sea that some of the best varieties of pearls are mined, which are distinguished by their special beauty, variety, brilliance and durability. To date, Fr. Hainan occupies a leading position in China in the production and export of high quality pearls.

The main tourist area of Hainan Island is located in the south of the island, in the vicinity of the city of Sanya and on the islands of the adjacent water area. Two international airports - "Camellia" in Haikou in the north and "Phoenix" in Sanya in the south - connect the island with airlines not only with mainland cities, but also with the countries of Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, as well as Hong Kong and Macau. Vessels ply to Guangzhou and Hong Kong. An extensive network of modern roads has been built on the island itself, which, despite the large size of the island, allows you to quickly and conveniently move around it.

Hainan is the place where the life expectancy of the population is the highest in China.

Of all China, Hainan Island is considered to be a special hot place. It is considered one of the main resort destinations in the country. This island is liked not only by foreigners who come to see the local beauties and sights, but also by the local residents of China.

Since Hainan is located on the same latitude as the Hawaiian Islands, it has a second name "Eastern Hawaii". In terms of climatic conditions, the island is also similar to the Hawaiian Islands.

The beach season on the island is long, since the climate of this area is subequatorial. In the daytime, the air temperature does not drop below + 20C, and the water warms up over + 25C in resort areas - Haikou, Sanya and Hainan.

On the island of Hainan, the sun shines for more than 300 days a year, and almost 1500 mm of precipitation falls throughout the year. As a rule, rains occur only from May to mid-October. Most of the rains on the island are expected in September, but this does not stop tourists and visitors who want to get to the island and get a lot of impressions from the rest.

In winter, the island is not hot, but always warm. In February and December, the air temperature reaches + 22C, but the January time is colder, because during the day the thermometer reaches only + 20C, but at night it is even colder - up to + 14C. As for precipitation, there are very few of them in the winter month - only 21-34 mm. The water temperature in the sea is quite high and reaches up to +25C.

Spring is considered a wonderful holiday season in Hainan. At this time of the year in Sanya, the air temperature becomes higher, and in May the thermometer can show + 32C. At the very beginning of spring, the water warms up to + 28C. The climatic conditions on the island in April are also favorable for recreation, it is warm and cozy here. But closer to the beginning of May, it is already sultry in Hainan, and if you are going to go on excursions, then be prepared for the heat to be exhausting.

Tourist activity in the summer on the island is reduced. During the summer season on the island, the rainy peak is constantly replaced by heat. You need to be extremely careful, because at this time you can get sunburn. July is considered the hottest month. The air temperature in any month of summer is always high and rises above + 33C. At night, the thermometer does not fall below + 25C, and the water warms up to + 30C.

As soon as the autumn days come, the weather again becomes favorable not only for a good rest, but you can also go on excursions without worrying that it will be too hot. Often in September, meteorologists say that there will be showers that will affect the humidity of the air in this area.

And only in October it will be possible to feel comfortable on Hainan Island. A light breeze and a minimum amount of precipitation at a temperature of + 28-30C make the rest unforgettable. At this time, surfing and various sports and recreational activities are especially popular on the island. Precipitation practically stops in November, so you can go on an excursion to the Yanoda National Park, see the volcano, or enjoy boat trips or soak up the beach.
