Vacations and holidays. Holidays in quarters

The vacation schedule in schools, universities and institutions of secondary vocational education in Moscow is approved individually for each educational institution by its director, rector or other person responsible for making decisions. In practice, the vacation schedule rarely differs from the recommendations of a higher authority.

Russian schools live according to two educational "calendars": quarters and trimesters. Depending on this, as well as focusing on the recommendations of the Ministry of Education, educational institutions themselves determine the dates of holidays. In general, it is beneficial for the school to adhere to the generally established framework, since general holidays mean more opportunities for organizing high-quality children's leisure: performances, excursions, concerts, etc.

Holidays in schools with a quarterly education system

Those who study in quarters have holidays four times a year - autumn, winter, spring and summer.

Fall break 2019-2020 academic year

Of these, the dates of the autumn holidays at the end of October and the beginning of November are less stable: the date of their end depends on the Day of National Unity, which is celebrated on November 4.

New Year holidays 2019-2020 academic year

New Year holidays, as a rule, begin from the last week of December and end on the 10th of January. Students go to school on Monday. Winter holidays in 2019/2020 academic year will be extended from December 31 to January 12. First-graders will also have additional vacations in the winter * - from 17 to 24 February.

Spring break 2019-2020 academic year

The situation with holidays in the spring is much simpler - the dates do not depend on the holidays. Spring break is in the last week of March and the first week of April. In 2020, schoolchildren will have a rest March 23 to March 31.

Summer holidays 2019-2020 academic year

Summer holidays start as usual - from 1 June to 1 September schoolchildren are waiting for three happy months free from lessons.

* For students of the first grades and classes of correctional and developmental education.

In addition to scheduled holidays, classes at the school may be canceled for the following reasons:

The third quarter is the longest and, perhaps, the most intense of all the components of the academic year. Therefore, a well-deserved break in studies, and this is exactly what spring holidays are, for schoolchildren and teachers, oh, how necessary! Graduates will be able to take a break from school lessons and make the last leap in preparation for the OGE and the Unified State Examination, and the rest of the students will simply sleep longer, take a walk in the fresh air, engage in outdoor games or creativity. And yet, the question of when the long-awaited spring break of the 2018 academic year will be is of concern to all participants in the educational process.

Spring break in studies in quarters

The law "On Education of the Russian Federation" states that an educational institution can independently choose a system for organizing training and set rest periods. This suggests that the educational organization itself decides how to study for it - in quarters or trimesters. And in accordance with this, set breaks for students.

If the school studies in quarters, then this indicates that four quarters are supposed, different in their duration.

  • 1 quarter - 8 weeks.
  • 2nd quarter - 8 weeks.
  • 3 quarter - 10 weeks (for the first classes); 11 weeks (for grades 2-11).
  • 4th quarter - 8 weeks (for grades 1-4, 9 and 11); 9 weeks (for grades 5–8, 10).

In the case when the school schedule provides for quarters, then all holidays are divided in accordance with the seasons, on which students' rest days fall:

  1. Autumn vacation.
  2. Winter.
  3. Spring days of rest.
  4. Long summer break.

The schedule of days free from study in schools is left to the discretion of the regional educational authorities, and sometimes the right to set vacation dates is given to the head of the educational institution - the director of the school. Therefore, a general vacation schedule for the whole country does not exist in principle.

There is a reason for such a policy of the Ministry of Education. Russia is a country of vast territories, and in many cases it is clearer on the ground when it is more correct to establish holidays for children. Only some rules remain common for the whole country, which relate to the number of days of rest for schoolchildren during the school year.

Approximate table of school holidays (by quarters):

holidays Dates
1 autumn 28.10. 2017–5.11. 2017
2 Winter 28.12.2017–8.01.2018
3 spring 24.03.2018–1.04.2018
4 Summer 1.06.2018–31.08.2018

Consequently, after the longest 11-week third quarter, spring days of rest are due for students of secondary educational institutions.

Here are a few examples of when the spring break of the 2017-2018 academic year will begin in different cities of the country, according to documents adopted by local educational departments:

  • Moscow - from 1 to 8 April.
  • St. Petersburg - from March 24 to April 1.

Occasionally, spring break dates may be shifted or canceled due to quarantine during winter flu seasons. This is done to ensure that students have time to complete the curriculum.

Spring break by trimester system

Another nuance regarding vacations is that some Russian schools (and most of them, of course) continue to divide the academic year into the usual four quarters, but there are also those in which the year is divided into trimesters. In schools with three terms, vacations are provided not only at the end of the trimester, but also in its middle, so vacations in schools with different forms of organization of the educational process coincide only in the summer and on the new year. In autumn and spring, they diverge quite noticeably.

As for the schools that use trimesters, most of them are located in Moscow and the Moscow region, so let's turn to the order of the Department of Education of the capital to clarify when spring breaks begin and end in such schools:

  • From February 18 to February 25, vacations will take place, which can be called both late winter and early spring.
  • from 8 to 15 April - spring holidays in such schools.

Please note that holidays from February 18 to February 25 are also provided in Moscow for first-graders in schools that use the traditional four-term mode.

When is your child's vacation? Contact the school!

An important piece of advice that can be given if your interest in spring break is not idle is to clarify the start and end dates at your school. As a rule, such information is published on the school website. If there is no such information, you can check the vacation dates with your child's school secretary or class teacher. Of course, this will be especially useful if, for example, you are planning a family vacation or some other trips during your child's vacation.

Now it is very fashionable for teenagers to keep their own vlogs and upload videos to various social networks. An example of such a vlog by one of our compatriots who left for America with their parents can be seen in the video:

The period of school holidays for the 2017-2018 academic year is established by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia based on the type of schoolchildren's education. The traditional type of training is 4 quarters with rest breaks. Modular type - training for 5 weeks with a rest of 1 week. Winter holidays are the same for all students.

Autumn vacation

The last week of October and the first week of November are the most long-awaited days for schoolchildren. It is difficult for children who have managed to wean themselves from the school regime to return to school and they dream of rest.

When they pass

The period of autumn holidays in the 2017-2018 academic year:

Things to do

Autumn is the time of leaf fall and the last warm days. Make the most of this time:

  • walk through the autumn forest;
  • arrange a children's party in the fresh air;
  • watch interesting films;
  • learn something new, like scrapbooking;
  • repeat what you have learned.

The winter vacation

Half of the school year is over and it's time for winter holidays. The expectation of a New Year's miracle and a break in studies delight schoolchildren.

When they pass

Spring Break 2018:

  • traditional type training - 04/01/2018-04/08/2018;
  • modular type training - 04/08/2018-04/15/2018.

Things to do

Spring break is a respite before the upcoming tests and exams for schoolchildren. It is important to gain strength and prepare.

The school year cannot start on Saturday or Sunday, so if September 1 falls on a weekend, then classes begin with a solemn line only on Monday.

For almost the same reason, school holidays cannot have fixed dates. They are appointed in accordance with the features of the calendar for a particular year. In our case, according to the calendar for 2018.

How the dates and duration of school holidays are set in Russian schools

Vacation periods in Russian schools are regulated by certain laws that provide for different ages of students and the climatic location of schools. However, the exact date of the beginning and end of certain holidays does not appear anywhere. Thus, each individual institution, whether it is a school, gymnasium, university or lyceum, draws up a school vacation schedule, in accordance with its characteristics and needs, which is approved along with.

The only thing that needs to be taken into account from the law on school holidays is that for the entire academic year, autumn, winter and spring breaks in total should not be less than one month. And the holidays between each of the quarters should not be less than 7 days. On the same summer holidays, according to the law, at least 2 months are allotted.

School holidays schedule 2018

School holidays for first graders

Children who study from the first to the fourth grade are awarded one more week of vacation. They rest in February (last Monday). 02/26/2018 - 03/04/2018.

* The vacation schedule may differ from the above, depending on the specific educational institution or region of Russia.

Vacation dates are coordinated not only with legislative norms, but also with the opinion of schoolchildren and the vote of the parents themselves. For certain reasons, vacation dates may be rescheduled, shifted, increased or reduced.

It often happens that an early quarantine can affect the cancellation of the next vacation. Unscheduled repairs, events, emergencies and the like may also affect the transfer of holidays to other dates.

Holidays are the most favorite time for students. And even those who left the walls of the school a long time ago remember the times of rest with a cheerful smile. Both students and their parents are waiting for a break in the educational process, but the autumn ones - the very first ones - are waiting with special impatience.

When does the holiday start

Many students, and their parents, notice that in different educational institutions the autumn holidays fall at different times. The reason for this discrepancy is the learning process adopted in each particular school. The academic year can be divided either into four parts - quarters, or three - trimesters. At the end of each part, there must be a short break. The 2018-2019 academic year is no exception.

For quarter schools

The minimum time allotted for rest in the fall is one week. Schools prefer to start their holidays on Monday and end on Sunday, respectively. This facilitates the process of load distribution, plus it helps schoolchildren to adapt more easily, to get involved in learning after a break.

As a rule, in institutions with a quarter system of education, the first holidays fall in October, most often in the last week of the month. The autumn holidays 2018-2019 will not be an exception - the rest will begin on October 29. But with the start date of the second quarter, some questions may arise.

The fact is that during the autumn holidays of the 2018-2019 academic year, National Unity Day falls - an important public holiday, and therefore a general day off. It is celebrated on November 4, Sunday. According to the law on the transfer of holidays, the day after the holiday will be a day off - Monday, November 5th. Thus, the holidays are extended for another day, and instead of seven days, schoolchildren will rest for eight whole days. And if we add to this the official weekend before the start of the holiday - Saturday October 27 (if the school has a five-day period) and Sunday October 28, then schoolchildren will have a rest in the fall for nine or even ten days.

Let's summarize:

  • Autumn holidays in 2018-2019 - from October 29 to November 5 inclusive.
  • The last day of school in the first quarter is October 26 or 27. The second quarter will start on November 6th.

For schools with trimester education

With trimester training, calculating the start of the break is somewhat easier. In this process, rest time and study time alternate with enviable regularity: four or five weeks of study are replaced by a week off. That is, a short break in the middle of the trimester and rest at the end of the trimester. It may seem to someone that with such a system of education there are more days off than with a quarter. In fact, the total rest time in both systems is almost the same - the difference can be literally a couple of days.

Students on the trimester system will be able to relax twice in the fall - at the beginning of October and at the end of November.

  • Autumn holidays 2018-2019 in the middle of the trimester - from 8 to 14 October
  • Autumn holidays 2018-2019 at the end of the trimester - from November 19 to 25.

School plans: study and recreation

How is the school year scheduled? Why does the school break fall on different dates every year? Is it really impossible once and for all to prescribe strict dates for the first and last days of rest in the school rules, so as not to ask each year the question of when the rest will begin? Let's try to figure it out.

The school administration finally determines the time period for which there is a break in studies. This right is reserved for educational institutions at the legislative level. The reason is simple: schools do not always have the opportunity to follow the curriculum “from and to”, clearly following every letter and every number written in the documents. In fact, sometimes force majeure circumstances occur, due to which plans have to be adjusted already in the learning process. Accidents (for example, a break in a sewer or a heat pipe), natural disasters (severe frosts or rains that threaten flooding), a state of emergency in the region, outbreaks of diseases (quarantine for influenza, for example) - there can be a lot of reasons. And so that the educational process does not suffer from force majeure, schools are left with the right to change the schedule - reducing or postponing the start and end dates of quarters or trimesters.

Before the start of the school year, the Ministry of Education issues an order specifying the total length of study time and rest time. So, in 2018-2019, a total of at least 30 days are allotted for holidays. And regardless of whether training is conducted in trimesters or quarters, students of all schools in the country for the whole year will have to rest for at least a month (not counting the summer break).
