How to sew a beautiful lambrequin with your own hands. Do-it-yourself decorative lambrequins: decorate windows in style

Keepers of the hearth always try to bring comfort and harmony to the house. You can make ordinary curtains a real highlight of the interior. Correctly decorated curtains in the hall, in the kitchen and in the nursery can give the interior the necessary shade, complete the baroque, rococo and even high-tech style. To do this, it is enough to choose the right design for lambrequins and figure out how to sew such decor at home.

How to sew a lambrequin on the windows with your own hands

Many lambrequins look pretentious and complex, the beauty of the drapery of the fabric is amazing. But in fact, almost all types of lambrequins are very easy to create. All you need to get started is . Start simple, try . Happened? Great, these skills are enough to try, especially since in some ways it is even easier than mastering a rubber band. When the curtains are sewn, hanging and pleasing to the eye, you can safely understand the question of how to sew curtains with a lambrequin with your own hands. We coped with the curtains, which means that we don’t care about any lambrequin! It's better to start with simple models, but after reading to the end, you will understand that all lambrequins are easy to perform.

How to sew a simple pelmet

To do this, you need a little:

  1. Piece of fabric for curtains. Cotton or linen will do, any medium weight fabric can be used.
  2. Threads. Take contrasting fabrics for basting and matching fabrics for basic sewing.
  3. Needle. Take the one that you feel comfortable working with.
  4. Sewing machine. Ironically, in sewing curtains, children's sewing machines that sew for real are convenient. They are portable, lightweight, the sewing speed is lower, which means that a beginner is less likely to spoil the line.
  5. Bias binding. Choose a fabric that matches or contrasts - it is good to process the edges of the lambrequin with it.
  6. Strip with loops for cornice. This is not necessary, the loops can be made independently. But it's much easier that way.
  7. Ruler and chalk. This is for those whose eye is lame.
  8. Scissors. What will need to be cut off?

And now about the main thing - about the size. Take a tape measure (my husband probably has one) and measure the width of your cornice. And then climb on a stool and measure the distance from the eaves to the level where you want the lambrequin to end. The first value is the width of the finished lambrequin, the second is its length. Almost.

Multiply the width of the lambrequin by 1.5 if you want small folds, by 2 if you want medium folds, and by 2.5 if you want to sew a beautiful lambrequin, as in the picture below. Add another 3 cm to the width - 1.5 on each side for processing the edges. And add 5 cm to the height, 1.5 for the bottom trim, and everything else for the top. Lambrequin is also attached to the eaves. Take a bias inlay at the rate of 1 width + 2 heights + 10 cm (just in case). Take a strip with loops exactly along the width of the eaves, +5 cm for the same case. Ready?

Go:

  1. Finish the bottom and side edges of the fabric cut with bias tape.
  2. Take your blank, lay it on a table or on the floor. Remember - how to sew a dress - with folds - this is a school curriculum. Take a ruler and chalk, mark along the upper raw edge, where the folds will be pinched.
  3. Pin the folds by sewing the lambrequin with a throwing stitch. Measure whether it corresponds to the length of the eaves. If all is well, go ahead.
  4. Then sew a strip with loops to the almost finished product, iron the folds and hang on the eaves over the curtains. That's all!

How to sew a soft pelmet

If you coped with simple folds, then you will overcome a soft lambrequin! The only difficulty is that you need to make patterns here. We have prepared for you patterns and photos of finished lambrequin elements, which you can sew with your own hands.

jabot

A traditional element of any soft lambrequin. Pattern scheme:

Gather the cut fabric in folds, sew, stitch a strip to fix it on the cornice, and you can fasten it! Here's what it looks like:

Tie

This tie can decorate the corners of the room, if the window is the entire width of the wall:

And this one serves as a separate element in a complex lambrequin:

coquilla

This is a type of tie. Performed according to the following patterns:

The mold is often placed between swags.

Swag

This element looks very impressive, but there is nothing complicated in creating. It is cut out on the basis of a trapezoid diagonally:

“Tunnels” are sewn on the sides, into which the tape is threaded, then it is tightened, the edges are stitched, and the swag is ready.

Swag turning into a frill:

It is good to decorate interiors with elements of baroque, rococo or modern with such lambrequins. If you have strict minimalism or hi-tech, a hard lambrequin hiding a cornice will look much better.

How to sew a hard pelmet yourself - step by step instructions

Simple, practical hard lambrequin can be hung in the kitchen how to sew it at home with your own hands according to the pattern, we will analyze it step by step:

  1. Get some thick cardboard. They can be stocked up at a hardware store.
  2. Make preliminary measurements of the height, width and protrusion for the future lambrequin.
  3. Draw a lambrequin on cardboard according to the dimensions. Here are some pattern ideas:

  4. Using the cardboard cutout, draw and cut out a lambrequin from fabric and the same from synthetic winterizer, +2 cm on each side for pasting the cardboard base.
  5. Bend and fix the edges for the ledge on the cardboard.
  6. Glue the synthetic winterizer to the base with building glue, then the fabric, wrap and fix the edges. You can do this with glue or construction tape, but more reliably with a stapler.
  7. Attach loops to the tops of the ledges, as in the picture - a lambrequin will hang on them.

How to sew a children's lambrequin

For a nursery, it is more practical to use hard lambrequins - it is impossible to catch on to them, it is difficult to cut them off. Such lambrequins can be combined with soft elements, creating real masterpieces. From the cardboard base, you can cut lambrequins in the form of decorative stripes, puzzles and flowers.

For upholstery of such bases, you can use any dense fabric, even suitable.

  • If the fabric is loose, pre-treat its edges.
  • When gluing the cardboard base of a hard lambrequin, start gluing the fabric from the center, straightening it to the edges.
  • Before sewing, do not forget to process the freely hanging edges of the lambrequin with an oblique trim.

    chapter:

    Window- the peculiar eyes of the house. These are structural elements that connect the interior of the building with the outside world, sources of natural light and fresh air. Such versatility of windows requires the creation of a decent frame for them. Lambrequins will cope well with this task.

    - a decorative element, can act as an independent window frame or be used in combination with curtains, curtains. The variability of product models allows you to choose the right item for any interior.

    Lambrequins are sold ready-made or made to order. The price of this decor element is not always affordable - it depends on the complexity of the design. Therefore, many housewives have a question: is it possible to sew this accessory on their own?

    Manufacturing a product can be both simple and complex - it all depends on the design features of the model. Let's look at their main varieties.

    What can be a lambrequin

    - a horizontal textile element of the window frame, located in the upper part of the structure. He can be:

    • soft- a decorative element made of thin, as well as dense curtain fabric. The cloth of the product can be straight or folded,
      the lower edge is even, figured.
      For its decoration, sewn-on details (beads, flowers, bows, fringe, lace, contrast edging), fastening elements (loops, ties), folds of various shapes, voluminous textile elements (crossovers, swags, bells, de jabot, ties) are used;

    • Combined- combines soft and hard elements. The product may consist of a dense figured base, complemented by details formed from thin fabric;

    • curly- a product with a three-dimensional pattern, holes of a specific shape. Its varieties are openwork lambrequins, the pattern on which is burned out using laser equipment. Such products have an increased decorative effect, do not burden the space.

    During its existence, lambrequins have changed significantly. Their shape has become more diverse, new decorative elements have appeared. Today there are lambrequins:

    1. straight;
    2. Folded (wavy, bow, cylindrical);
    3. Teardrop-shaped;
    4. Asymmetrical;
    5. arched;
    6. With and without edging;
    7. Royal - consisting of many decorative elements (swag, de jabot, folds, mold).

    On a note: these are not all varieties of lambrequins. This decorative element can be presented in various author's designs.

    Learning to make a pelmet yourself

    Before proceeding with the manufacture of the product, it is necessary to decide on its model, whether it will be complemented by curtains, curtains or not. The appearance of the product depends on the purpose of the room in which it will be used, the style of the interior, the desired functionality.

    The size of the lambrequin is also important - what part of the window opening it will cover. The degree of natural light in the room depends on this. It is also important to correctly determine your own capabilities: whether you can make complex patterns and connect the details of the composition.

    Product sizing

    In order for a lambrequin to be a worthy window frame, it must match the size of the opening. This takes into account several aspects:

    • as a standard, the width of the lambrequin should be 20-25 cm longer on each side of the rod. This will provide additional protection from sunlight and give the product a complete look;
    • if it is planned to manufacture a folded lambrequin, then its width should be at least 1/3 longer than the eaves, the optimal indicator is double the length of the rod;
    • the height of the lambrequin depends on its model, personal preferences. As a standard, the cloth covers 1/3 of the opening. But its height depends on the wall above the window - for aesthetic reasons, the lambrequin should completely cover it.

    Fabric choice

    The color scheme of the lambrequin is determined by the style of the room design. The best option is to match the furniture upholstery. This will combine all the textiles in the room into one interior composition.

    On a note: a lambrequin can also be an accent in a room - in this case, it is sewn from fabrics of bright, saturated colors.

    Decide on the form

    Fabric consumption, the complexity of making a pattern depends on the shape of the product. Lambrequin can consist of several sections. The complexity of the design depends on the length of the cornice, your skills in cutting and sewing.

    Features of designing a product, making a lambrequin pattern

    A single-section lambrequin should fill the entire eaves. If the product consists of two elements, then one overlaps the other by 1/3. In the manufacture of a lambrequin, consisting of 3 sections, the length of the rod is divided by 7 and multiplied by 3. The resulting figure is the width of each section.

    We calculate it using the example of a cornice 150 cm long: 150/7x3 = 64 cm. It turns out that the lambrequin should consist of three sections 64 cm wide, which overlap each other in 2 places by 1/3. If the overlap of elements is greater, the folds will break and the drapery will lose its shape, a harmonious appearance.

    If in a certain model of a lambrequin the swags do not overlap each other, but are arranged in a row, the space between them is covered with small decorative elements (bells, ties, metal molds). This will hide the ends of the cords formed after the fabrics were pulled together into folds.

    The dejabot element allows you to visually adjust the height of the premises. It is used in combination with swags. If its cut starts just above the lowest point of the swag, this adds height to the room, if lower, it brings the ceiling closer.

    Advice: it is convenient to draw patterns for a lambrequin on a large table or wall. The first is a horizontal line - the width of the central section. Proportionately, on both sides of it, the contours of the side elements are applied.

    Instructions for sewing a single-section lambrequin

    One of the easiest to manufacture is the Scarf lambrequin model. Such a decorative element can be used to decorate a window in the kitchen. And if you add it with classic curtains - this set can be curtained in the bedroom, nursery. Structurally, it is a one-piece fabric, manually draped on the cornice.

    Attention: since the lambrequin model is distinguished by its simplicity, no patterns are required for its manufacture, marking can be done directly on the fabric.

    To determine the size of the product, two indicators are needed:

    • The length of the cornice;
    • Sag height

    Important: swag (sagging) in the product should occupy no more than 1/6 of the opening, otherwise the window structure will obscure the room.

    Markup is done in the following order:

    1. Outline the desired height of the lambrequin;
    2. The fabric is folded in half, from its middle along the upper edge, ½ of the length of the cornice is marked in both directions, along the lower edge - the height of the sag;
    3. The upper and lower points on each side are connected, defining the line for sewing on the braid;
    4. Along the upper edge of the lambrequin, the height of the coattails is added to the width of the cornice. From the extreme point draw a line perpendicular to the bottom. Side allowances for gates are added to the resulting rectangle (2 cm each).

    The fabric is cut along the outlined contour, folded over from all sides. A thin curtain braid is sewn along the upper edge, equal to the length of the cornice and diagonal lines. Where the tape runs diagonally, it is carefully pulled together by the cords. As a result of this action, a central swag with folds in a semicircle and side coattails are formed. The pelmet is ready to be hung on the eaves.

    Advice: the places of the product screed can be decorated with sewn-on decorative elements (flowers, butterflies).

    Production of a two-element lambrequin

    The living room or bedroom will be adequately decorated with a two-layer lambrequin, consisting of long and short panels, gathered in elegant folds. This design harmoniously looks with sliding curtains sewn from the same fabric.

    Advice: the lower layer of the lambrequin can be made from a material that is a few shades lighter than the rest of the window frame - this will highlight the horizontal decorative element against the background of the overall composition.

    The kit consists of:

    • Thin translucent curtains;
    • Sliding curtains on tiebacks falling to the floor;
    • Double-layer folded lambrequin.

    Examples of patterns for all elements of this window frame are presented in the diagram below. In finished form, the design has dimensions of 3.5 x 2.8 m.

    The lambrequin will be curtained on a cornice 350 cm long. To form folds, you will need a mounting tape with an assembly factor of 3. The product is made from two rectangular pieces of fabric measuring 70x1050 cm and 90x1050 cm. First, their edges are processed, the upper edge is folded to the width of the mounting tape.

    After that, a curtain braid is attached, on which, by tightening the cords, they form wavy folds. They can be one-sided, oncoming or bow - it depends on your skills. The simplest option is waves directed in one direction.

    Features of sewing a lambrequin of three elements

    The product consists of a central swag and two side cascade elements. It is fixed on a cornice board.

    To make a lambrequin you will need:

    • Medium weight fabric;
    • Cornice board;
    • curtain tape;
    • Scissors, pins, thread, needle;
    • Small nails, hammer;
    • Sewing machine.

    First, we cover the cornice board with a fabric. Next, we proceed to the manufacture of patterns for the details of the lambrequin. Their dimensions are calculated for a cornice with a length of 2.8 m.

    We place paper blanks on a fabric folded diagonally and attach with pins. We trace their contours with chalk / pencil on the fabric, leaving allowances of 1.5-2 cm for the folds. Since the folds on the lambrequin will be formed using a curtain tape, therefore, along the upper edge of all its elements, we leave such an allowance so that we can make a hem equal to the width of the braid.

    We sew a braid to the side edges of the swag and tighten the cords, forming folds. Now let's start designing cascading elements. We sew the tape to their upper edge and assemble the canvas. We align all the details of the lambrequin along one line and fasten with pins so that they slightly overlap each other. We fasten the pelmet to the board with the help of small nails.

    Secrets of a simple but successful drapery

    Effectively decorate the window with a lambrequin, which consists of a mechanical flip, smoothly turning into de jabot. The product consists of a single rectangular piece of fabric. The secret of his presentable appearance lies in the elegant drapery.

    The central element of the lambrequin is a large crossover, which forms two symmetrical swags, separated from the side elements of the structure (de jabot) with the help of a curtain tape. The braid allows you to form folds on it. The swag is attached to the rod in the form of a flip, then the side parts of the product are decorated, and their upper points are decorated with false flowers - it turns out simply and beautifully.

    Elegant drapery can be created even from a straight linen. To do this, sew an arched lambrequin on a contrasting lining. Most of the panel is attached to the cornice with metal clips on the rings, the rest is made in the form of a flip. The product is complemented by a flower made of the same material as the lining.

    Advice: the fringe sewn along the lower edge of the lambrequin will emphasize the unusual shape of it.

    Another way to simply but effectively drape a window is with a lambrequin, which consists of three separate sections. The basis of the design is two triangles, sewn from dense fabric, which have a drawstring for threading the rod. One eyelet is inserted into them to fix the connecting element.

    They are a rectangular piece of thin fabric (organza), lighter than the main one by several tones. It is processed along the contour with an oblique trim and threaded into the holes of the eyelets. The result is a one-piece design: two elements of the lambrequin are connected with an elegant swag, and beautiful falling folds are formed on the sides of the product.

    A window decorated with a lambrequin always looks unusual. And if you add curtains to this element of textile decor, you get a presentable, stylish and quite functional design. Depending on its model, colors, it can decorate the kitchen, nursery, bedroom, living room or office. Sewing a lambrequin is not difficult, because there are simple styles of the product that look very impressive. It is enough to find a suitable pattern and realize your idea.

    A lambrequin is a horizontal strip in a curtain composition that adorns a window opening (as well as a doorway or arch). Lambrequins perform both a decorative function - to decorate a window opening and a curtain composition, and a practical one - for example, they can hide the cornice and protect against drafts.

    Lambrequins are:

    Soft - they are sewn from fabric using folds and draperies, decorated with tassels and so on;

    Rigid - for their manufacture you need a rigid base;

    Combined - they combine elements of soft and hard lambrequins.

    Depending on the shape, size, quantity, "organization" of the folds, soft lambrequins are divided into many different types, each of which has its own manufacturing characteristics.

    To learn how to sew complex varieties of lambrequins with high quality, you need to spend a lot of time - this art is rather not for beginners. But some simple types of lambrequins can also be sewn by beginners.

    Soft lambrequin with puffs: master class

    Lambrequin with puffs is quite easy to sew, but it looks spectacular.

    You will need:

    Fabric for lambrequin;

    Wide curtain tape;

    Cardboard for templates;

    Ruler and chalk;

    Braid with fringe or tassels;

    Needle for hand sewing and thread in the color of the fabric;

    Sewing machine;

    Scissors;

    Step 1

    Decide on the length and width of your lambrequin. The assembly factor of this lambrequin is 2.5. The size of the cornice in this example is 1.3 m. Thus, the width of the lambrequin will be 3.3 m. Choose the length of the lambrequin to your taste, also being guided by the rule: the length of the lambrequin should be 1/5-1/6 of the length of the curtains. Consider also the height of the puffs: they will shorten your lambrequin a little. In this case, the length of the lambrequin is about 70 cm.

    Step 2

    Carry out a wet-heat treatment of the fabric so that it does not shrink and deform later. In this case, this treatment consists in steam ironing, in general, it depends on the type of fabric you have chosen. How to carry out wet-heat treatment of different fabrics, read in detail.

    Then cut out the detail of the lambrequin. Process the short sides of the part by tucking and stitching on the machine.

    Step 3

    Make three cardboard blanks: strips 8 cm wide, 15 cm and 18 cm wide.

    Step 4

    Lay the piece of lambrequin on the work surface inside out. Attach an 8 cm template to the long side and, moving it forward, draw a small line along the entire length.

    Step 5

    Now, using an 18 cm template, draw another parallel line along the part of the lambrequin. Repeat 2 more times. You should get 4 strips 8 cm wide, 18, 18 and 18 cm wide.

    Step 6

    Now, using a 15 cm template, draw lines perpendicular to the existing lines over the entire width of the lambrequin. It should turn out so that the entire surface of the lambrequin is drawn into rectangles.

    Step 7

    Now mark the rectangles with diagonals according to the diagram.

    Step 8

    With a needle and thread, fix the fabric sections according to the scheme, forming puffs. Repeat for all diagonally marked rectangles. Secure each puff well.

    Step 9

    Sew a fringed braid on the front side of the pelmet along one of its long sides. If the fabric is fraying, before that, you can process the edge by tucking and sewing on the machine.

    Step 10

    Now sew the curtain tape along the other long side of the pelmet. Read on for details on how to choose and sew a curtain tape.

    Step 11

    It remains, by pulling the cords in the tape, to assemble the lambrequin, and hang it.

    Lambrequin with pickups: master class

    This video clearly and in detail describes how to build a pattern and sew a lambrequin with tiebacks.

    Lambrequin arch: master class

    One of the simplest and most versatile options.

    You will need:

    Fabric for lambrequin;

    Bias inlay of a suitable color;

    curtain tape;

    Sewing machine and thread;

    Scissors;

    Centimeter;

    Paper, pencil and ruler for making patterns.

    Step 1

    Build a pattern. To do this, measure the length of your cornice and multiply this value by the assembly factor. This coefficient should be taken the more, the more magnificent folds you plan to make on a lambrequin. For thin, well-draped fabrics, the assembly factor can be taken more, for dense and heavy fabrics - less. Typically, this coefficient is 1.5−3.5. If you are using a standard curtain tape, usually the assembly factor is 2. The length of the cornice must be multiplied by the assembly factor and add 10 cm to finish the edges. Take the rest of your measurements. Build a pattern similar to the example in the picture.

    Step 2

    Fold the fabric for the lambrequin in half and transfer the pattern to the fabric. Add 1 cm seam allowances and cut out the pelmet detail.

    Step 3

    With an oblique trim, process the entire detail of the lambrequin around the perimeter.

    Step 4

    Sew a curtain tape from the inside along the upper edge of the lambrequin.

    Step 5

    It remains to assemble the lambrequin by pulling the cords in the curtain tape and hang it.

    To decorate the windows of any room, create coziness and comfort in the room, you can make a lambrequin with your own hands. Lambrequin is a decorative component of the curtain, which can hide the flaws of the cornice or window. With a properly selected beautiful decor element, the window acquires a complete and dignified appearance.

    The product combines not only a decorative function, but is also able to visually transform the space, hide flaws in the design of the room, and also cover the cornice.

    Now compatible with any modern interior, the detail began to be used as early as the 15th century to complement the luxury of the Baroque style. The Renaissance era was distinguished by the fact that horizontal pieces of fabric acted as a canopy, fixed above the bed. Later, a century later, they turned into decorations for window, doorways, and arches.

    The interior of the bedroom in the Baroque style, where the main role is a lambrequin over the bed. Initially, they were made of smooth fabrics and were decorated with fringe or embroidery, less often with appliqué.

    How to sew a lambrequin with your own hands: step by step instructions for beginners

    Before you sew a lambrequin with your own hands, you need to prepare the following items and materials for work:

    • the main piece of drapery fabric;
    • lining material of the same size;
    • non-woven lining;
    • contrast thread;
    • a plank or mounting board of the same size as the cornice;
    • kraft paper;
    • furniture stapler or furniture nails and hammer;
    • pencil.

    Pattern

    Decorative panels for windows can be different, including molds, swags, perekida, ties, dejabot, bells.

    Making lambrequins with your own hands with patterns for beginners that you don’t need to draw yourself will be much easier. Therefore, you can consider ready-made options for existing varieties of elements:

    1. Pattern with swags.
    2. Pattern of classic curtains with lambrequin.
    3. Half-swags are also similar to the arcs decorating the curtain, but have a hole at the top.
    4. Jabot or de jabot - side elements that decorate the curtain, having folds and a bevel.
    5. Tie - such an element of a lambrequin is obtained by stitching two jabots along the side seam.

    Svagi are arched beautiful folds. The diagram shows the option of adding curtains with two swags. With other parameters of the window opening, it is possible to make a calculation with the preparation of proportions with the dimensions already existing in the example

    A similar pattern, but with a large number of swags - with three. Additionally, the size of ties and tulle on the sides was calculated. Also, the size of the main fabric of the curtains and the number of swag folds have already been taken into account.

    A kind of beveled straight lambrequin with folds, supplemented by one arc, can harmoniously fit into strict and restrained interiors. Looks advantageous in combination with curtains falling to the floor

    Variety with asymmetrical swags. Measurements are given for two wires of different sizes, taking into account sagging from the number of folds

    The image shows a simple pattern, taking into account the width of the cornice, the depth of the folds and their number, the width of the side distances. De frills help emphasize the border of the window

    A classic tie has a drapery of a spiral type, usually located to decorate a window along the edges or between swags. The tie pattern is an ordinary rectangle with a beveled corner.

    A few steps to create a pattern:
    1. It is necessary to leave allowances of 2 cm for the top and side edges, from 10 cm for the bottom.
      Depending on the type of element, a different size of allowances is selected to create a swag, a semicircle is drawn on paper, and the amount of material for sewing the panel is immediately calculated.
    2. If it is a frill, then the length is measured in height and the number of horizontal frills is taken into account.

    How to choose material

    As a drapery fabric, you can choose absolutely any, for example, velvet, polyester, satin, tulle, taffeta. Since you can sew lambrequins with your own hands for any room, the main rule is that the curtains should be combined with its style. For rooms in the Rococo or Baroque style, velvet is suitable, which looks expensive and perfectly retains its shape. Polyester material is suitable for decorating kitchen windows. Natural materials such as silk, cotton or linen can be chosen for classic living room or bedroom interiors. Such fabrics are hygroscopic, perfectly tolerate washing and protect the room from the penetration of sunlight.

    The color scheme for the fabric of the product is selected in accordance with the existing tones. The lambrequin perfectly harmonizes with the textile upholstery of the room. You can use exactly the same fabric as on tablecloths, bedspreads, upholstery. You can also choose from a fabric similar to curtains. Perfect harmony in the room is achieved through the use of the same rich shade in the upholstery of the sofa and the lambrequin fabric.

    When choosing a fabric, you need to pay attention to materials that are soft and easy to drape. For tinted windows, light materials are selected, for sunny windows - dense fabrics.

    Calculation of the required amount of material

    Sewing lambrequins involves detailed calculations of the required amount of fabric. It all depends on the chosen type of accessories for curtains. You can choose a model with swags, that is, decorative elements of curtains in the form of an inverted arc. This is a widely used model with many variations of execution. Usually, 4 swags are created on average for the hall and living room. If you choose 3, then they will be too large, and 5 pieces - on the contrary, small.

    Therefore, it is necessary to calculate the length of each element, taking into account the placement of swags, whether they will overlap each other. This can be done from a drawing to scale or using an equation from algebra. To make the calculation technique clear, you can use an illustrative example. With the most common cornice length of 3.6 m, a person wants to create four swags for a lambrequin. In this case, it is necessary that each subsequent arc covers the neighboring one by 1/3 of the size. It turns out that 3 overlaps per third of the length of the arc will be the size of one full-fledged swag. Therefore, the length of the cornice must be divided into 3, and not 4 parts. The length of one swag will be 1.2 m.

    When calculating the height of the lambrequins, the seam allowance should be taken into account. When choosing the width, not only the length of the cornice is taken into account, but also the assembly factor. If it is necessary to create light folds, the assembly factor will be 1.5.

    Another example of fabric calculation for the variety of tulle shown in the image. It takes into account the dimensions of the window, cornice and fabric assembly factor. Additionally, measurements of the required amount of material for curtains were made

    cutting

    The simplest type of lambrequin is a piece of fabric on a gathering band. To create such an element of the interior, a strip of fabric is cut out with selected sizes with a figured or straight hem.
    Cutting begins with the search for a sketch and the choice of fabric. When painting the material, allowances for seams and edge processing should be left.

    The cutting itself and marking is carried out on the wrong side of the material. When creating decorative elements from fabric, the material is folded with the outer part inward and chipped off with pins to prevent distortions. When choosing a material with an ornament, colors or geometry, it is necessary to follow the pattern when cutting.

    Sewing

    The process of sewing lambrequins consists in the following order of work:

    1. A square piece of fabric is folded twice diagonally in succession to determine the center of the swag.
    2. To create an assembly, a regular bar is used, on which the marks of the shoulders of the arc and its middle are marked.
    3. The fabric is placed on the bar with a sag at an angle of 45 °, the middle marked on the swag fabric should coincide with the mark on the beam.
    4. When the folds are laid, they are fixed with pins on both sides.
    5. Excess fabric is trimmed with scissors.
    6. The edges along the marked lines are outlined on both sides.
    7. After that, the material can already be removed from the bar.
    8. The finished arc can be decorated with any decorative element: fringe, bugle inlay.
    9. The top of the swag is sheathed with a curtain tape.

    Just like in the photo, you can create a product from a freely hanging curtain fabric without resorting to the use of patterns, calculations and tailoring. The fabric is simply thrown over the cornice and left to hang in an asymmetrical position.

    1. You need to choose the type of product depending on the size and purpose of the room.
    2. When choosing, you need to look at the height of the wall above the window. Pelmet in size should exceed this distance.
    3. The decor on the windows visually reduces the height of the room. Therefore, in those rooms where the ceilings are low, the use of such decor will be irrational.
    4. Beginners who want to sew a rigid model on their own should choose a patterned fabric, preferably with large ornaments. Or decorate the curtain yourself to hide the flaws in tailoring.
    5. Lambrequin in the interior must be combined with the color of the textiles present in the room.

    In spacious rooms, complex curly patterns look good.

    For small rooms, as well as darkened rooms, a children's bedroom and a kitchen, it is better to choose simpler varieties. It is worth paying attention to soft and hard, which have a small number of folds.

    The finished product can be decorated with decorative flowers, satin ribbons and bows, lace, glass beads. Curly folds can be created on curtains, draped with braid, other elements
