How to make soft letters. How to sew pillow letters with your own hands: a step-by-step master class

When a child is just beginning to be interested in letters, it is better to present him with new knowledge in the form of a game. Instead of boring copybooks, you can use colored cards with pictures or bright schemes. In addition, you can speed up the process of memorizing letters if symbols (that is, letters) unfamiliar to the baby are always in front of your eyes. To do this, in the nursery, you can hang a special poster with a printed alphabet in pictures. And you can make a unique children's alphabet with your own hands. It can be made from a variety of materials: cut out of plywood, molded from plasticine, knitted from yarn ... Or you can make letters from fabric in the form of small pads stuffed with filler.

To make letters from fabric, you will need

  • pencil
  • paper
  • fabric - when choosing a material for letters, give preference to fabrics with the most dense weaving of threads, American cotton is perfect
  • scissors
  • threads in tone
  • needles (or you can sew on a sewing machine)
  • pins
  • filler (you can choose any filler, since pillow letters are intended for children, it is better to give preference to sintepuh, it is the most tender)

How to sew letters from fabric

1) We begin our master class with the preparation of a pattern. A suitable pattern for letters can be found on specialized sewing sites. And you can do it yourself. To do this, you just need to choose a thick font, set the size and print the letters yourself. If you have experience in sewing such soft letters, you can immediately draw patterns on paper by hand.

2) Before starting cutting, the fabric must be carefully ironed. Then we fold the material in half and cut out the letter patterns - we will get each pattern in two copies. In addition, you need to cut out the middle strip of fabric, its width depends on how thick you want to sew the letters.

3) We sew along the perimeter an ode half of the workpiece and a side piece. Pay attention to where you start sewing them - the second half will need to start sewing from the same place so that there is no skew of the fabric.

4) After all the side parts are sewn on, you can attach the second half of the letter. In order to evenly position it, first chop off the workpiece with pins, and only then sew it on.

5) When all the seams are ready, small cuts should be made with scissors on the fabric protruding behind the seam (along the entire perimeter). This is necessary so that the finished toy is smoother. We turn out the letter.

6) We fill the letter through the left hole, then sew it up with a hidden seam.

7) The letters are ready! If you plan to hang them, you can sew on small loops of satin ribbons.

How else can you use pillow letters

Bright letters-pillows have long been used as a way to enliven the interior or give personality to a photo shoot. They can be made from almost any fabric and decorated with bows or lace as desired. On sewing forums, you can find free patterns for sewing each letter, but in general, it’s not difficult to draw them yourself.

However, pillow letters require a lot of space, so if you make an entire alphabet, it can take up not only the sofa, but the whole room. Therefore, it is better to limit yourself to a few letters, for example, constituting the name or initials of the child. These letters can be strung on a beautiful ribbon like a garland and hung on a baby's bed.

When the child is ready to learn letters

Despite the fact that now young parents are striving to start the process of learning to read as early as possible, it is still important to pay attention to the physiological and psychological characteristics of the child in mastering the alphabet.

1) The child must speak well and clearly pronounce all sounds.

2) The vocabulary of the child should be sufficient to talk about his desires.

3) The child should be able to make complete sentences.

4) The child loves books and reading, shows interest in letters.

5) During the game, he portrays as if he is writing or reading “for fun”.

1) First of all, you should not think that such classes with kids are available only to professional teachers. With the desire, patience, and suitable teaching material, any parent can handle this task.

2) Think of an association word for each letter. At the same time, it is important to choose simple words from the child's everyday life, for example, the letter "M" - mom, "P" - dad. Do not choose complex words whose meaning the child does not understand. For example, the letter "K" is better to call "kitty" and not "canister".

3) Do not rush to learn the entire alphabet at once, you can study one letter for several days. Let the child remember it well and find it in the words that you show him.

4) Think of what the letters look like (“O” - for a bagel, for a ring, “G” - for a club, for a crane).

Materials and tools

Pillows should be quite large and plump (40 x 40 cm is ideal), so for each pillow you will need two 45 cm squares of fabric. For one and a half letters, such as "M", "W" or "F" , and also for the letter "D" you will need not squares, but rectangles measuring 45 x 55 cm.

You can use a variety of fabrics for making pillows, as long as it is dense enough. However, it must be said here that thick linen, jeans or cotton do not drape well, so wrinkles and small folds will form in the corners of letters sewn from such fabric. All natural dense fabrics are quite difficult to process, so a novice craftswoman may not be able to cope with them.

How to choose fabric for soft letters?

You can take any material, according to your taste and imagination. It all depends on the purpose of the letter:

  • For a children's toy, cotton, linen, knitwear is suitable, it is easily washed and does not lose its shape if it is constantly wrinkled. Experienced craftswomen advise using American cotton. Looks good dense flannel fabric, knitwear.
  • For interior letters, a dense fabric is taken: drape, velveteen, felt, plush, velor.
  • If the letters are small, you can use the patches of different materials that any craftswoman has.

Perhaps, we list the general requirements for the material. Take a plain fabric or with a small pattern. Although with a large pattern, an interesting design can turn out. Do not use translucent material - everything is visible when stuffing the toy.

The fabric should have a tight weave to make the pillow neat. In addition, do not take material that frays heavily on sections. Too smooth fabric will also not work. If you are new to this kind of work, it will slip in your hands and interfere with neat sewing.

And the last thing: if the fabric is very soft, it stretches a lot (for example, knitwear), you need a lining made of dense fabric (non-woven fabric). It is glued with a hot iron to the part.

We have been a little distracted by theory, and now let's move on to practice.

What else do you need in addition to sew letters from fabric with your own hands?

  • Marker for making templates. You can take any bright felt-tip pen or pen.
  • Pins for pinning fabric.
  • Centimeter.
  • Soft pencil, remnant or special chalk for cutting.

How to choose stuffing material?

Usually, different materials are used for soft decorative things. If you are sewing a children's toy or a pillow letter for sleep, the choice of filler is very important.

There are two types of fillers: natural and artificial. Let's start with natural stuffing:

  • Cotton wool - not suitable for toy filler. Firstly, washing with such a filler is impossible. Cotton wool gets wet, and after drying, it loses its shape and hardens. Mold can settle in cotton wool if the toy gets into a humid environment.
  • Wool is a good filler, soft and light. Sold in stores, the toy can be washed at low temperatures (hand wash). But he has one big minus: if your child is allergic to wool (or an adult family member), then the toy will become hazardous to health.
  • Herbs - the filler has a healing effect: soothing, relieves headaches. A well-chosen collection will solve the problem of insomnia, relieve excessive excitability and tearfulness in the baby. Letters made of fabric with grass filling have a pleasant aroma. Cons: for herbs, you need to sew a separate bag of dense fabric and only then fill the product with them. The product cannot be washed.
  • Cereals - peas, buckwheat, beans, seeds, etc. - develop fine motor skills in babies. The product cannot be washed. The filler must be calcined in the oven before use so that the bug does not start. Before stuffing, the grits are placed in a cotton bag.

Synthetic fillers:

  • Foam rubber - sold in hardware stores. Lightweight, gives the toy the necessary rigidity and stability. It is good to make large letters with it to decorate the interior. Can be washed.
  • Sintepon is a modern lightweight material, voluminous, keeps its shape well. The most popular among craftswomen. Safe for kids.
  • Hollofiber is a soft synthetic material in the form of balls. Used to make pillows. Hypoallergenic, withstands even high temperatures.
  • Sintepukh - a kind of synthetic winterizer, only softer and lighter. It is also hypoallergenic and washes well. It fills the whole detail well, leaves no empty spaces.

Are you already asking a question about how to sew letters from fabric? Wait, you still need to prepare a few tools and materials.

Additional materials and tools

A few more things that will help you quickly and beautifully make three-dimensional letters:

  1. Stationery knife - to cut out internal holes in the letters. You can do without it if the scissors are sharp enough.
  2. Threads in the color of the fabric.
  3. Needles for hand sewing. You can sew on a sewing machine, but small letters can easily be sewn by hand.

In our master class, we show a variant with hand sewing.

Prepare your workplace, lay out all the materials and tools, set up good lighting - and go ahead, let's start creating. How to make letters out of fabric We will take separate steps.

So, the first step is to make a template.

You don't know where to get templates from? Draw by yourself. After all, you only need to know the alphabet for this. Here is an example of the letter "N".

You can immediately print the letter on the printer. If you don't have a printer, don't worry. The letter can be redrawn directly from the computer screen. Anyone who draws well can easily draw a letter on cardboard.

If you want to change the size of a letter, it's easy to do so in Word. Select the picture and right click. In the context menu, select "Picture Format", and then "Size".

To make three-dimensional letters from fabric, templates will be required of good quality: the letters must be large, without small details. Otherwise, it will be difficult to sew and stuff the parts with filler.

The second step is to transfer the letters to the fabric

The fabric needs to be prepared: iron and fold face inward. We lay out the letters and trace with a pencil, leaving an allowance of 0.8-1 cm. It should be noted that it is not necessary to leave an allowance in the holes of the letters. In our case, there are no internal holes.

You can translate templates for letters with a pencil, pen, special marker. It will disappear without a trace from the fabric when you cut out the details. If the material is dark, use a cutting crayon or just a small bar of soap. Soap is also well washed and washed off the fabric during the first wash.

Cut out the letters. Holes can be carefully cut with small sharp scissors.

The third step - cut out the side parts

The pattern of letters from fabric consists of three parts. Our letters need to be voluminous, so we need side details.

We take fabric blanks and measure all sides of the letter with a ruler.

The sum of all side lengths is equal to the perimeter. Don't forget to measure the inside holes too. Patterns of three-dimensional letters from fabric are made separately for each letter.

One important point: if you are sewing on a typewriter, be sure to consider the direction of the grain thread when cutting. Otherwise, the fabric will be skewed, and the letter will turn out ugly.

For example, we got 68 cm. We cut out a strip of fabric about 3 - 3.5 cm wide and 68 cm long. The pattern of three-dimensional letters from the fabric is ready.

Fourth step - sew the side part to the main part

At this stage of making a letter, your patience and accuracy are important. We take one main part of the letter and sew a side strip to it. Take your time, carefully sew the strip along the entire outline of the letter. Then sheathe the internal holes, following all the rules. You need to pay attention to the corners: be sure to make a few extra stitches so that there are no holes accidentally left.

Here's what happens.

Fifth step - sew the second main part

Now we sew the second part from the letter to the side part along the contour. Here is what we have now.

Don't pull the stitches too tight to prevent the letter from turning crooked. The last stitch must be secured so that the threads do not accidentally bloom. We turn the blank of our letter on the front side. If the toy is difficult to turn inside out, you can use the blunt end of scissors or a spoon.

The sixth step - we fill our letter with filler

You are great, you did a good job. The letter is almost ready. It remains to fill it with filler and carefully sew it up. Since it is difficult to fill the letter with stuffing with your hands, you can use improvised objects, such as a spoon.

You can congratulate you, now you can easily sew letters from fabric with your own hands.

Now let's have some fun.

Who came up with the idea of using letters in the interior?

Do you know where the fashion to decorate the interior with letters and words came from? We will tell you.

More than half a century ago, in the West, artists began to get involved in a fashionable trend in art called pop art. Artists in their works used unusually designed words, letters, slogans to better convey the meaning of the picture. The comic book genre was actively used

The most famous artists of the direction: Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. Gradually, designers and sculptors liked the hobby.

Robert Indiana created an entire sculpture out of the words "LOVE". The monument stands in New York and attracts crowds of tourists.

Today, letters can be seen on wallpaper, curtains, carpets and even furniture.

Ingo Mauer, a lighting designer, created a chandelier adorned with scrappy notes. It looks unusual and very romantic.

In Holland, designers came up with furniture in the form of letters. It is in great demand, especially for arranging children's rooms. Volumetric fabric letters are made in the form of pillows, decorations.

You can use inscriptions and letters for decoration in almost any style. Of course, first of all, the letters are relevant in the children's room. They help the early development of the child.

I must say that adults also like the letters in the interior. If the room is decorated in a minimalist style, the inscription will be a bright detail in the room and enliven the interior.

Our master class is over. I hope you found this article useful. Maybe you have already sewn a cool thing and feel like a real craftswoman. If you don't succeed, don't worry, try again. Over time, you will develop the necessary skills and become a real professional. And, perhaps, come up with your own master class on how to sew letters from fabric.

If you suddenly decide to decorate your interior in an original and inexpensive way, then fabric pillow letters will help you. They will appeal to both children and adults. In addition, these pillows are multifunctional. First, it is an original addition to the design. Secondly, playing with such pillows, the child will memorize the alphabet, you can lay out words or syllables from them. Thirdly, they can easily replace your favorite teddy bear on a trip, and, finally, this is just a great gift idea for friends or relatives.

Such a gift, creative, bright, useful, will be appreciated. You can make only the first letter of the name or the entire name. And most importantly, sewing pillow letters with your own hands is not difficult at all and even not very experienced craftswomen will be able to do it.

How to sew pillow letters with your own hands?

Necessary materials:

  • fabric for sewing;
  • threads matching the color of the selected fabric;
  • filler (synthetic winterizer, holofiber or cotton wool);
  • pattern paper;
  • centimeter;
  • pins;
  • soap or chalk (for drawing);
  • sewing machine.

Preparatory stage

Before starting work, you need to consider a few important points:

  • fabric color;
  • type of fabric;
  • thread quality;
  • product dimensions.

When choosing a fabric, you need to consider who will own the pillow: an adult or a child. For a children's room, you can choose a bright fabric with an original print, and a letter-pillow made of plain fabric will perfectly fit into the interior of an adult's bedroom. It should not be too thin or, on the contrary, very dense and rough. When sewing textiles, fleece has proven to be excellent, you can also choose thick chintz or flannel.

It is better if for sewing you stop at the choice of nylon threads that can withstand strong tension and last a long time.

Technology of sewing letters-pillows

In general, there are several ways of sewing pillow letters. The first, the simplest, is suitable for beginners, and the second, more complex, for already experienced seamstresses.

The first sewing method: a step-by-step algorithm of actions

  1. We make patterns of the future product in the original size. To do this, draw a sketch on paper and cut out the template that we have. We fold the fabric in half with the front side inward and draw a ready-made template onto it.
  2. After that, strictly along the contour, you need to cut a fabric blank (this must be done very carefully, since we will sew the letters along the front side with a manual seam).
  3. We sew the received parts with a seam "over the edge".
  4. We leave a small hole in the product unsewn in order to fill the pillow letter with filler.
  5. Carefully sew the hole and cut the thread. The pillow is ready!

When sewing a pillow letter in the second way, one small nuance needs to be taken into account: sewing the letters C, P, U, L is a little easier than, for example, A, Yu, V, F. Therefore, for the description, we take the first letter of the alphabet (it is also one of most difficult).

The second sewing method: a step-by-step algorithm of actions

Using decorative elements to decorate a pillow letter

The finished product can be beautifully complemented with various accessories: buttons, bows, appliqués, beads, ribbons, patch pockets. Hand embroidery will also look original: if the pillow letter is nominal, then you can embroider, for example, the date of birth or the full name of the person.

Get creative by making a pillow letter for your preschooler, because with some elements you can turn it into, for example, an animal. With this decision, you will kill two birds with one stone: decorate an already finished product and help your baby learn the alphabet faster (we remember that visual-figurative thinking prevails in young children).

So, the letter K can easily be turned into a funny little man with an outstretched arm, a pair of eyes and long ears - and the letter Z turns into a cute hare. In addition, these pillows will perfectly fit into the interior of your child's room. Take into account that when decorating your product with various accessories, it is undesirable to use adhesive compositions for their fastening, as their inaccurate use can spoil the appearance of the pillow.

Pillow letter as an element of room decor

The use of textile letter pillows can be a fresh solution in updating the decor of a room. After all, you can sew not only the first letters of the name, but also such words as love, home, family. With such letters you can decorate the room of both a newborn and a teenager. There are a lot of ideas for decoration, it all depends on your creativity and flight of fancy!

Feel free to experiment with the design of your pillow letters. Original solutions are in fashion today, and a pillow made with love with your own hands will definitely become the best element of room decor, surprise and delight your loved ones.

Each hostess tries to decorate the interior in accordance with fashionable novelties. If you decide to invent something original, why not make a pillow in the shape of a letter? Moreover, the patterns of the letters of the Russian alphabet for pillows are simple. You can easily sew them, even if you do not consider yourself a highly skilled craftsman.

The described type of pillows has become a design novelty. These alphabet pillows can decorate the interior of a nursery or guest room. Recently, a similar accessory is also often used to decorate various celebrations and themed photo shoots.

Such pillows are very popular among young mothers. Everyone, without exception, wants to give their child only the best. Ready to decorate the kids room? Then start sewing letter pillows, because from them you can collect, for example, the name of your baby.

Before we tell you how to make soft pillow letters with your own hands, we will describe patterns 40x35 cm in size and other formats, let's study a few features of their tailoring:

  • You can create a pillow pattern in the shape of any letter yourself. Choose your favorite computer font and set the desired lettering options. Print the blank, and then transfer it to graph paper.
  • Pay special attention to the thickness of the letters. When filling with synthetic winterizer, foam rubber or other soft material, the width of the letter will become smaller. In this regard, make appropriate allowances.
  • It is quite easy to sew a number of letters of our alphabet, for example, O, S, P, G, T, etc. There are so-called mirror letters - I, Yu, V, etc. You should pay attention to this when cutting.
  • Also, in some letters, the cut part of the fabric may be inside the pillow, for example, T, so mark the second blank on the wrong side.
  • It is best to choose a uniform fabric, although you can combine completely different patches, the main thing is that they fit in size and texture.
  • To correctly calculate the amount of fabric, we build a pattern, do not forget about seam allowances.

  • First we do all the seams by hand, then we will remove them.
  • If you have sufficient skills, make zigzag or other line stitches. Otherwise, sew the pillow by hand, but only with a blind stitch.
  • To design pillows in the form of letters, you can choose ribbons, decorative buttons, beads, beads, plaits, etc.
  • Be sure to leave one part of the pillow unsewn to fill it with padding polyester.
  • This non-stitched part can be fixed with a hidden seam or Velcro. Some needlewomen insert a zipper or buttons.
  • Initially, we sew the line seams from the wrong side, and then carefully turn the pillow blank inside out.
  • It is very important to make notches and roundings. You will see this when you start stitching the letter. Some letters should have sharp, sharp edges, while others should have a rounded outline.

Let's look at the technique of sewing pillows in the shape of letters. The most difficult, oddly enough, is the first letter of our alphabet. In the letter A, it is imperative to leave the middle, which, after stitching, will be through.

After transferring the pattern to the fabric, we cut out the two halves of the letter and the side parts, which will give the desired volume to the pillow. First, we sew the main parts along the side cuts. Pay attention to the image: these sections are indicated by a white line.

  • measuring tape;
  • chalk or pencil;
  • pins;
  • threads;
  • sewing machine;
  • needles;
  • pattern;
  • sintepon.

Step by step description of the creative process:

Pillows-letters can be called a recent trend. However, there is something to love about such interesting products: they are creative, bright and, of course, useful. Would anyone refuse their own name, nicely laid out in the form of letters on the sofa?

By the way, you can collect and lay out not only your name, but also the names of children, relatives and friends, and even pets. Everything that your imagination and creative mood is much for.

Interested? Then we offer to plunge into the world of needlework and still learn how to sew letter pillows with your own hands.

We prepare materials

In order to create such beauty, you will need quite ordinary and standard materials:

  • directly the fabric from which the pillows will be made;
  • threads;
  • filler;
  • scissors;
  • pins;
  • pattern paper;
  • chalk, soap or a simple pencil (to create a pattern);
  • ruler or measuring tape;
  • sewing machine.

Letter pillows must be voluminous, so you need to take several types of fabrics: the main one (for the front and back sides of the future pillow) and the side (for the side parts of the pillow).

As for the colors, the fabric can be very different: plain light or dark, or bright, with colorful patterns and extraordinary prints. Be guided by your own desires, feelings and the interior of the room in which the pillows will be located - you will not be mistaken.

The threads must also match the fabric in color, otherwise something very strange and not quite beautiful will turn out. As a filler material, you can use cotton wool, synthetic winterizer (it has proven itself to be a fairly good filler) or pieces of fabric if you have a lot of them and nothing else is at hand. In this case, get ready for the fact that the pillows will turn out to be somewhat loose or too hard, and in some places they will turn out to be empty.

After all the materials are assembled, and you are charged with a good mood and optimism, you can get to work.

Sequence of work

In order to sew a pillow-letter, you must first draw this letter. We draw a pattern of the selected letter on paper and then transfer two such details to the main fabric, of course, in a mirror image. If you are not good at drawing, then just print the letter of the required size, cut it out and also transfer it to the fabric. Do not forget about seam allowances either - 0.7 cm or 1 cm is enough.

From another fabric, you need to cut strips for the side of the letter. The length of such a strip is the diameter of the future letter (it is better to make it longer, the rest can always be cut off), but the width is calculated using the following formula: letter width + two seam allowances.

After the fabric has been cut, you can begin to assemble the parts together. To begin with, it is worth sewing that same side strip to the front of the letter. You can do this with threads (basting), or you can use pins for chipping. In the outer corners, you need to carefully cut the side fabric, in the inner corners - the main one. Don't forget about stitching details.

If the selected letter contains a hole (O, A, P, Z), then the side strip of fabric will need to be sewn to the edge of this hole. If the letter does not have a hole, we begin to sew on the back of the letter (again we use pins, cut the corners and grind the details). We sew everything on a typewriter, carefully and slowly.

After this business is finished, the letter can be turned out. Next up is the filling process. This should be done carefully: the filler should be in all parts of the letter, especially in the farthest corners.

After the pillow has turned into a large, soft and voluminous thing, the hole left to fill must be sewn up with blind stitches. The final stage is steaming the resulting pillow. The best way to do this is with a steam iron. For a long, long time, until the letter takes on a marketable appearance.

Ready! If you did everything right, then you have a bright, soft and very cute pillow letter.

Happy needlework!

The original home decoration in the form of three-dimensional pillow letters is very popular with needlewomen. They are made from various fabrics and use a filler to give shape. Typically, these interior items are made in the form of the first letters or full names of newborns. They are placed in the children's room or living room.

The original home decoration in the form of three-dimensional pillow letters is very popular with needlewomen.

For those who have never tried to sew such accessories for the home, the work may seem complicated and require investments, but in fact, making pillows in the form of soft letters is very simple. Even a beginner can handle this task.

For sewing you will need:

  • fabric of the same color or contrasting shades;
  • synthetic filler;
  • threads to match the material;
  • scissors;
  • sewing machine for making even seams and their processing;
  • pattern paper;
  • ruler 50 cm;
  • pencil;
  • safety pins;
  • chalk for transferring patterns to fabric.

If there is no sewing machine in the house, you can try to make pillow letters with your own hands, but this will be a very lengthy process, since the size of the products is rather big. In addition, it is better to overcast the seams to prevent shedding and divergence of the fabric during operation.

DIY pillow letters: what fabric to take?

Preferences regarding the material for crafts are individual, but most often they stop at the following options:

  • cotton;
  • fleece;
  • jersey;
  • upholstery fabric: microvelour or flock.

The main requirement is density. The material must be durable to wear, as in the children's room the pillows will experience a lot of stress. You can use old stocks of fabric left over from sewing bedding or other things.

Preferences regarding the material for crafts are individual

It is important to choose a color. If the letters are placed in a particular room, the prevailing tones should be taken into account. Products must be combined with wallpaper or furniture. As a basis, it is better to choose a fabric with an ornament in the form of stripes, polka dots, flowers, etc.

The sides that connect the front parts of the pillows can be plain. If the letters perform a developing function, and elements in the form of buttons, satin ribbons, buttons and other devices for working on fine motor skills will subsequently be sewn on them, you should choose a material without a pattern for all parts.

What sizes to choose?

When determining the parameters of letters, you can be guided by different considerations. The letters can be different M, L, F does not matter, the dimensions and tailoring technique are the same. With a limited amount of material for the manufacture of personalized pillows, a pattern of the appropriate size should be used.

Much also depends on the location of the finished products:

  • sides for a crib;
  • accessories for a sofa or ottoman;
  • decor for the room on which the child will sit or lie.

When determining the parameters of letters, you can be guided by different considerations.

The classic size of soft letters is 40x35 cm. But if desired, they can be made larger or smaller. On the Internet, you can download ready-made schemes for a height of 20 and 30 cm.

How to sew the letters of the Russian alphabet: patterns

The process of building a stencil is simple. You can use a pencil and ruler or print on a printer.

The fastest and most accurate would be the last option:

  1. In the Word editor, select a letter and set the necessary parameters for it. You can also download a ready-made template and specify the required height when printing. Most likely, you will have to break the stencil into several sheets.
  2. The printed pattern is cut out and glued together. Get a full size letter.
  3. To make it last longer, fix it with glue on cardboard or thicker paper.
  4. All ready-made stencils for one name should be placed side by side and imagine what the finished pillows will look like.
  5. If there is a desire to slightly change the shape of the letters, amendments can be easily made by highlighting unnecessary elements with a pencil and cutting with scissors.
  6. The sides are made in the form of strips with a width of 5 to 8 cm, given that about 8 mm from each edge will go to the seams.

After the patterns are ready, the creation of a masterpiece begins.

We sew the letter "H"

For the classic version of the pillow 40x35 cm, you will need a piece of material of any color 1 m long and 70 cm wide. You can take with a margin so that it is enough for the sidewalls.

  1. The fabric is folded in half with the front side inward. They put a pattern on top, fix it with safety pins and circle it with tailor's chalk or a simple pencil. Adding another 1 cm around the perimeter for seam allowances, again draw a line along the contour.
  2. Cut out blanks. From the remnants of fabric or other contrasting material, strips 5-8 cm wide are made, not forgetting to also add 1 cm along the edges. The length is determined by measuring the letter along the outer and inner borders with a centimeter.
  3. On a typewriter, the sidewall is attached to one side of the "H". Then the second part is attached in the same way. Don't forget to leave a small hole to turn the pillowcase inside out and fill the pillow with stuffing.

The slit is closed with a secret seam by hand. The soft letter "H" is ready. It can be used on its own, or you can add the rest of the elements that make up the name of the child. If the sewing machine has an embroidery function, you can also put the baby's full name on the side before stitching the parts.

We sew a bagel: a master class

Before you start making soft letters, you can practice on a simpler and equally popular product with children - a bagel. The scheme of its creation is clear even to a child.

To sew a round pillow with a diameter of 40 cm with a hole in the middle, you will need:

  • thick paper for building a stencil;
  • threads;
  • pencil;
  • scissors;
  • plain light material for the base 50x100 cm;
  • pink fabric for decoration 40x40 cm;
  • sewing machine;
  • safety pins;
  • multi-colored buttons of a funny shape.

The color of the base and decor can be changed at your discretion.

Building a donut pattern:

  1. A sheet of paper measuring 50x50 cm is folded in half twice.
  2. Tie one end of a simple bobbin thread to a pencil.
  3. Using a ruler, measure 20 cm from the edge of the sheet and pull the thread to this length.
  4. Further, by attaching its opposite edge to the corner of the square where the fold is located, according to the principle of a compass, a smooth line is drawn with a pencil.
  5. It turns out the fourth part of the circle.
  6. Cut off excess edges.
  7. Fold the resulting figure diagonally.
  8. 3 cm are measured and cut from the corner - this will be a hole for the donut.
  9. Unfold the paper back, and the template is ready.

Preparatory stage:

  1. The fabric is folded in half with the front side inward.
  2. From above with safety pins fix the pattern.
  3. Circle the shape with a pencil and draw another circle at a distance of about 1 cm from the template. This is not necessary if you can cut the fabric by eye evenly, taking into account the allowances for the seams.
  4. The location of the hole is also indicated, but it is not necessary to cut it at this stage.

Decorative element:

Edible bagels are usually filled with sweet cream. The pillow should be no exception. For this purpose, a piece of pink fabric was prepared in advance.

  1. Again, fold the template in the form of a triangle and make the inner hole 3 cm wider.
  2. Straighten the paper and give the edges a wavy shape, drawing by hand, cut off the excess.
  3. They impose a pattern on the wrong side of the material for the “cream”, circle and cut out everything, including the hole in the middle, without seam allowances.

Part connection:

  1. A piece of pink material is attached to the front side of one half of the base, combining in the middle.
  2. Fasten the fabric with pins and attach the “cream” on a typewriter using a zigzag.
  3. Fold both parts of the base face inward and stitch the edges, leaving a hole of about 15 cm.
  4. The place where the donut hole will be is also stitched along the drawn contour. Then cuts are made crosswise and the excess material is carefully cut out, stepping back about 1 cm from the machine line. In order for the fabric to subsequently lie flat, the tips of the scissors make neat notches no more than 6 mm long at a small distance from each other.
  5. The pillowcase is turned inside out and stuffed with synthetic winterizer or other available filler to the desired degree of elasticity.
  6. With the help of a hidden seam, the remaining hole is sewn up by hand.

The resulting cute bagel lacks sprinkles. It is made by attaching multi-colored buttons to a pink background in random order. Such a pillow will become the favorite item of the child and his little guests.
