We sew a cover on the sofa with our own hands

A sofa cover is a useful and handy item that will help breathe life into old furniture and keep the new one, especially if the standard upholstery of the sofa is not entirely wear-resistant. By creating a cover, you can change the design of the apartment, decorate the interior, highlight individual details. At the same time, it is not at all necessary to buy expensive material and accessories or order a case, spending a lot of money on it. You can easily make a cape on the old kitchen, on the children's sofa, on the furniture in the living room and in the bedroom. It can be a cover for a leather or fabric sofa - it all depends on your tastes, preferences and what kind of furniture you prefer to use.

In order to independently make a cape on the sofa, it is enough to apply the skills of working with a thread and a needle. A sewing machine will be a great help. But most of the work still needs to be done manually. You will also need the skills to create a pattern. After all, you need to make it yourself individually for your sofa.

But even here you can cheat. A very simple and easy way is to use an old cape that may have been in the closet. It must be torn into separate pieces and transferred to a new material.

An old cape is not found in every home. Luckily, there are plenty of tutorials online that offer different ways and options on how to make a sofa cover the right way. They provide step-by-step instructions that will simplify the creation of patterns.

The most difficult is sewing a cover for a corner sofa with your own hands. Before cutting, the fabric must be thoroughly washed, dried and ironed. This is done in order to provide for possible shrinkage of the product.

The cover must be created in separate parts. Such a cover can be made for a classic sofa. It will appeal to people who value comfort and practicality. There are several options here:

  • Attached corner section. It is necessary to sew five covers with a reinforced seam: on the main part of the sofa, side, armrests and back.
  • Plug-in corner section or one-piece corner design. In this case, the covers are made separately for the corner of the sofa and for the wings and are ground together from the wrong side. The most important thing here is to hide the seams between the corner and the wings. After all, they will be located on the seat and back. Pleated will help with this. But it is quite difficult to make it. It is also quite difficult to work with factory pleated material. There is an alternative - choose a fabric with a color so that the seam on it is invisible.

Our advice: an easy way to hide the front seam. This can be done by introducing it with an attachment to the tightening of the fabric. If you decide to sew a cover from a rough and dense material (for example, rustic-style canvas), then all seams should be seated. They can be made with a sewing machine.

What fabric is the sofa cover made of?

It is worth taking seriously the choice of fabric. Not every type of material will work the first time. In addition, the cape for the sofa should be practical and durable.

It is not recommended to use two extremes - too heavy and dense upholstery fabric, which is used for the manufacture of upholstered furniture, and too light, poorly shaped and thin, which requires additional processing.

Chiffon, rayon and satin are considered light fabrics. Capes made of these fabrics look incredibly beautiful, but they will not last long and quickly lose their attractive appearance. Such materials are still best used for tailoring clothes and accessories.

Many people find that upholstery fabric is the perfect choice for making slipcovers, as it is used to create sofas, armchairs, and nooks and crannies. But note that the upholstery is tightly fastened to the frame with a stapler and small nails. This suggests that such a material is completely inelastic. You just physically can not pull it on the back, armrests. In addition, do not forget that the cover must be periodically removed from the furniture in order to wash it.

That is why it is best to choose the golden mean - moderately dense, moderately soft and elastic material. Ideally, it should be impregnated with a special agent. Waterproof material will allow the furniture to stay fresh and clean for a long time.

If you not if you want to specifically buy fabric for making a cover, you can use improvised means. We present options for what material can be used to make a cape:

  • from eco-leather;
  • from a blanket;
  • from a bedspread;
  • from jeans and many other things.

With a little effort and imagination, you can even make a beautiful sofa cover out of old clothes.

The sofa cover can be decorated in a variety of ways. Ruffles can be made at the bottom. Embroidery and ribbons will also look beautiful. It will be interesting to look at a cape created in the patchwork style. To create it, you will need scraps of a wide variety of fabrics.

We make a cover for a sofa with an elastic band with our own hands

The elastic band is incredibly comfortable. It is used for the manufacture of mattress covers and bed linen. This technology can also be used to create a furniture cover.

Initially, you need to sew the cape itself. Then, a rubber band must be sewn into its lower part. She will keep the cover in place in any situation, even when several people are sitting on the couch.

Another advantage of this method is that the finished cape can not only be easily put on the sofa, but also removed from it. It is convenient for washing and cleaning.

In addition to gum, you can use various other clamps. The cover with a lock is also incredibly convenient - it allows you to remove the cover from the sofa in just a few seconds. A simple universal stretch cover is popularly called "eurocover". It can have many options for execution that never cease to amaze.

A cape for furniture does not have to be made by sewing. There are other ways to create it. For example, a cover can be made from a single piece of fabric.

In addition, the cover can be knitted from threads. It can be done from scratch. Or you can use old sweaters for this. Such an element of decor will look very nice in a room made in a rustic or Provence style. It will add comfort and warmth.

How to sew a corner on a sofa cover?

If you have purchased upholstered furniture with expensive and beautiful upholstery, it is clear that you do not want to hide it under various bedspreads and blankets. No wonder you spend hours choosing the shade of upholstery and texture that matches the pile of the carpet and the color of the curtains!

In such cases, you want to protect only the most sensitive and most dirty parts. You can easily make separate covers for the armrests, pillow, sides or seat. In addition, you can make compact pockets for remote controls, which is very practical and convenient.

If the overall cover holds all the parts of the cape on the sofa, then the armrests can fly off very quickly. When creating them, it is necessary to consider autonomous fastening. Lenas, elastic bands or ribbons, bows or laces are perfect. They will look nice. You can also use buttons or Velcro. But it is better to sew them on the bottom of the armrest so that they do not interfere. Otherwise, they will have to be changed frequently or they will ruin the clothes.

This is very convenient, because you can make several capes at once. They are easy to change during washing, and they will also help to update the design of the sofa and make it more interesting when it starts to wear out. They can be matched with pillowcases, pillows or other elements of the room.

Many housewives strive to put their furniture in order, even if it is very outdated. After all, everything can be restored if you approach work wisely. How to sew a sofa cover with your own hands, step-by-step instructions will help you sort out the issue of putting in order an outdated sofa cover.

Many women are interested in how to sew a sofa cover. You need to start the procedure by taking measurements. You need to measure the top of the cover like this:

  • to find out the length of the product, you need to measure the sofa in front. Measure from the floor in front of the sofa and finish with the floor behind the back. 25-30 cm is left for a free fit.
  • width is measured from the seat of the sofa. They also leave room for allowances.
  • in order to measure one armrest, measure from the seat to the floor, leaving 25-30 cm. Do not forget about allowances.
  • by measuring the width of the seat of the sofa, the width of the armrest is determined.

The length of the lining should correspond to the length of the cover, the width - the width of the cover and two lengths of the armrest, minus two allowances.

Materials and accessories for sewing

For many, tailoring begins with the question: what fabric to sew a sofa cover from? Modern sofa covers are made from different materials:

All fabrics are good in their own way. The main thing to consider is in which room the sofa will stand. For the kitchen, it is better to choose textiles that wash well and do not attract dirt. Decorative fabrics are suitable for the living room. If the sofa is in the hallway, then it is advisable to choose practical and easily washable materials.

Tools to get the job done:

Advice! The fabric can be chosen to your taste, it is only important that it be dense and durable.

Detailed sewing instructions for a universal sofa cover

Let's find out how to sew a sofa cover yourself. Some prefer to work with patterns, but this is difficult and only suitable for those who understand sewing.

Cutting must be done on a flat surface. This is usually done on the floor or on a large table. You need to cut out six rectangular pieces, which will later be needed for work. After that, you should perform the following actions:

  • with the help of pins, the material is attached with the front side to the sofa or chair (depending on what it is sewn for);
  • all rectangles are chipped using pins;
  • then pieces of fabric are swept away with threads, repeating the bends;
  • then the fabric is cut, leaving allowances;
  • then the material is removed from the furniture and all seams are sewn with a sewing machine;
  • the seams are checked, and then the cover is turned inside out and tried on to check how it sits on the sofa;
  • in the process, notes are made where it is necessary to finish or shorten;
  • after the product is turned inside out and adjustment work is carried out;
  • then you need to cut off the excess material;
  • trim the edges and correct any flaws.

This completes the sewing. The procedure is easy if you follow the rules and sequence.

Creating a cover without sewing

There is an easy way to sew a sofa cover. It represents the creation of a cover without stitching:

  1. First, the desired size of the material is cut.
  2. Then the product is fastened with wooden slats in the area of \u200b\u200bconnection of the backs and seats. This will help create the right shape.
  3. Then the textiles are manually attached to the edges of the armrests with clips.

How to sew a cover on a corner sofa

The cape is made in the same way as in the case of the universal version. Pattern is important here.

Advice! It is better to find a pattern on the Internet and sew on it.

A cover is created from two separate parts, which are then connected. In the area of corner joints, the fabric is attached. If this is not done, the form will not be created. When the product looks like a bedspread, the upper elements of the seat are first swept and sewn together. Later, the remaining parts are sewn in pairs. Be sure to make allowances, which then need to be ironed.

In the presence of sidewalls, the actions are different:

  • the back, top and front strips of the back are sewn together;
  • sew sidewall.

In general, the procedure is complicated, so it is better to buy ready-made covers for it.

Before you sew a sofa cover with your own hands, you need to study all the rules and subtleties, otherwise the product will not be suitable for the sofa. Listen carefully to the following advice:

  1. Take fabric with a margin of 1.5-2 meters. This is useful for making pillows.
  2. Always do your due diligence.
  3. Do not take expensive textiles if you are sewing for the first time.
  4. Take accurate measurements.
  5. Act consistently.

Subject to these rules, you will personally make a stylish cover that will decorate the sofa favorably.

Designers say that with the help of covers you can refresh any product. However, it is often not possible to purchase the necessary decor element. In most cases, buyers simply cannot find the most suitable model. And if you still come across one, the cost may be too high and the purchase has to be abandoned.

Experienced needlewomen are convinced that any kind of products can be made by novice craftsmen. The main thing is to follow the instructions. In this article, we will study the technology of making covers for a corner sofa with our own hands. Consider both simple options and more complex ones.

Necessary materials and tools

To realize your idea, you need to be well prepared. It is better to start by choosing the fabric that will be used to create the idea. Professional seamstresses note that it is much easier to work with knitted material. Especially if the sofa has an uneven back. Although novice masters can choose a different option. But at the same time, you need to be prepared for the fact that you will have to work hard on the work. You will also need the following tools for creativity:

  • large tailor's scissors;
  • piece of chalk;
  • tape measure;
  • special pins;
  • a piece of paper and a pen.

Measurement technology

Obviously, the easiest way is to make do-it-yourself covers for a corner sofa, which consists of even rectangles and squares. If the studied piece of furniture is decorated with a carved back, you should not be upset. You just need to use any stretchy material. But in any case, you should first measure the sofa. To think over the work, build a pattern and sew a beautiful cover, you need to find out the following parameters:

  • sofa height;
  • the length of each backrest - from the corner to the armrest;
  • the width of each backrest - from the highest point to the seat;
  • length, width and height of each seat.

When cutting a cover for a corner sofa with your own hands, it is important to consider that the length of the backrest of interest is not equal to the length of the corresponding seat. And the difference between the first and second parameters will help to draw a diagonal - the junction of the two parts of the corner sofa. But more on that later.

Cover-cape

Experienced needlewomen advise craftsmen who are just starting to master the technology not to take on complex products. The first step is to make a cover that looks more like a cape. For its implementation, you can prepare any fabric, even more dense. But at the same time, you should remember that it will have to be flashed. And the thicker the material, the more difficult it will be to do. In any case, the first step is to prepare the fabric and build a pattern on it according to the image proposed below.

However, it must first be adjusted to the size of your piece of furniture. It is also worth noting that when you manage to cut a cover on a corner sofa with your own hands, its edges can be carefully wrapped, framed with a satin ribbon, or tied with a hook. The most preferred option, each needlewoman must choose independently.

How to cut a one-piece case

If the reader decides to perform this version of the product under study, it is immediately worth preparing for the fact that he will have to tinker with it. Especially at the stage of cutting out the details. However, you should not be afraid, the technology is quite accessible even for beginners. After all, further we will explain in detail how to make a cover pattern for a corner sofa with our own hands:

  1. We prepare a piece of fabric, the width of which is equal to the sum of the following parameters: sofa height + backrest width + seat length + seat height. And the length is the sum of the lengths of both backs + two sofa heights.
  2. We spread the prepared piece of material.
  3. Using a measuring tape and chalk, mark the indicated points.
  4. Then add the length of each seat.
  5. We lower two vertical lines to the bottom edge of the canvas.
  6. We draw diagonals from the end of each horizontal segment to the junction of two backs.
  7. Thus, we manage to outline the "house" that should be cut out. It is shaded gray in the diagram.

One-Piece Case Assembly

Having prepared the part of the desired size, we proceed to stitching. To do this, we use a typewriter or work manually with a needle and thread. Our task is to connect the two parts of the seat together, stitching the sides that were formed after cutting out the extra "house".

In the diagram, the junction is indicated by a red zigzag line. Next, fold the canvas, separating the main part of the sofa from the backs. The fold points are indicated by green zigzag lines. As you can see, sewing a cover on a corner sofa with your own hands is much easier than cutting it. However, we have not finished our work yet. We folded the canvas, as a result of which we managed to form two backs. Now you should flash them along the zigzag lines marked in blue on the diagram.

At this stage, it is safe to say that the main part of the work is behind. In fact, we have already managed to make a cover for a corner sofa. But in order for it not to slip when sitting, it should be supplemented with an elastic band, which must be sewn along the entire lower edge of the resulting frame.

Pattern of a stylish cover with a frill

Cutting this version of the product is no more difficult than the previous one. But it is important to understand that in this case, the work involves somewhat different actions. Experienced needlewomen say that readers who get tired of a one-piece case sewn according to previously studied instructions can easily turn it into a stylish model with a frill. To do this, you just need to determine the length of the frill, and then cut off the strip of the desired width along the bottom edge.

If you have to cut out a cover for a corner sofa with your own hands, the photo scheme proposed above should be slightly corrected. However, it is important to consider that a smaller rectangle is required to implement the idea. That is, its width will be less than the sum of the following parameters: sofa height + backrest width + seat length + seat height. The difference will be as much as the length of the frill is intended. Accordingly, the length will also decrease: (the sum of the lengths of both backs + two sofa heights) - the length of the frill.

After making simple calculations, we go to the store and buy the desired cut. It is also important not to forget about the frill. Traditionally, it is made from cotton. Less commonly used light and airy fabric. For example, organza. But in this case, it is required to make a multilayer frill so that the shabby sofa does not show through. It is also important to consider that the length of the frill should be one and a half to two times longer than the length of the bottom edge, because this part will be wavy, and this can only be achieved if you use more material.

Assembling the cover with a frill

As you can see, you can make any kind of covers for a corner sofa with your own hands. The photos proposed in the article demonstrate that it is best to use any stretchy fabric to create this thing. Mostly knitwear. The cover with a frill is sewn in the same way as the whole one. And then a frill is sewn along the bottom edge. Moreover, experienced needlewomen advise pre-attaching it to an elastic band. This will create neat and smooth "waves". It is also worth processing the bottom edge of the frill so that it does not crumble, and the product looks more presentable and expensive. If desired, it can be decorated with a satin ribbon of a suitable color.

Cover pattern for a corner sofa and armchair

Many novice needlewomen do not dare to give new life to worn interior items, because they are afraid of not being able to cope with the task. We dismantled the technology on the sofa. We hope it will help readers to create a really beautiful and original thing that will decorate any room. But the method of sewing a chair cover has not yet been studied. But professional craftswomen like to joke that for those who managed to successfully cope with a cover for a corner sofa, cutting and sewing a similar product for an armchair will seem like a real fairy tale.

According to reviews of corner sofa covers (photos of the best options are presented in the article), if you delve into the process, this statement can be considered justified. Because the chair, like a regular sofa, does not have a complicated angle. This means that it does not require the construction of a pattern taking into account this detail. Thus, we need a rectangle whose width is: chair height + back width + seat length + seat height. And the length is the length of a single back + two chair heights. Similarly, the size of the rectangle required for sewing a cover on a regular sofa is calculated.

Assembling a cover for an armchair or regular sofa

It is important to note that, unlike the do-it-yourself pattern of a cover for a corner sofa, the photo of which we studied in one of the following paragraphs, this option does not involve cutting out an extra detail. We only need to fold the canvas, stepping back from each edge of the height of the chair. In the diagram, the folds are marked with a green zigzag line. And then, highlighting the armrests, flash the sides marked in blue.

As you can see, the technology is quite simple and accessible to beginners. Therefore, professional needlewomen recommend starting with sewing a chair cover, and then moving on to a more complex version of the studied product for a corner sofa.

In the article, we presented photos of beautiful covers for a corner sofa. The novelty, undoubtedly, will decorate any interior and will allow demonstrating the taste and skill of the household.

Not only to ennoble old furniture, knowledge is needed how to sew a sofa cover, but also in order to save a new purchase, especially if the base upholstery of the sofa itself is not too wear-resistant. In addition, the manufacture of such a coating can be attributed to a variety, since with a textile transformation, absolutely any furniture can be brought into line with the chosen style of the interior of the apartment, moreover, without buying overly expensive furniture sets.

How to sew sofa covers with your own hands

Definitely apply knowledge how to sew sofa covers maybe those of us who, in principle, know how to handle a needle and thread at a good level and are good at handling dense fabrics. Help, of course, will be a sewing machine and other useful sewing devices, but the main work will still need to be done manually. In addition, an important and necessary skill will be to build patterns on your own, since you are unlikely to be lucky to find a ready-made solution for your sofa.

The easiest way to practice is to take an existing cape, which may have been bought in ancient times, tear it apart and transfer them to a new fabric. But this is not always possible, so you still have to train by other methods. The craftsmen also offer us to make a trial product using the lessons how to sew a sofa cover with which are posted on many handicraft blogs, both foreign and domestic. For a trial product, the cheapest and most affordable fabric is selected, which it will not be a pity to use. Details from it are sewn to each other with the help of simple stitches, the main thing is to check how much they all fit together in size and how tightly they sit on the furniture. After the test drive is completed, the test product is ripped open and all its parts are used for cutting on a more expensive fabric, as parts of a pattern on a 1:1 scale. Then, after use, you can put this fabric on a pillowcase for or for other needs.

The simplest options among all master classes - how to sew a sofa cover without armrests, Such small pieces of furniture are very popular for furnishing country houses or nurseries, moreover, the armrests may well replace small tightly packed ones. The cape in this case will be of a very simple form, and frills and flounces are used for decor, which are sewn on the underside of the furniture.

It is this model that is also used to create standard garden ones, which definitely need a cover, since they always stand in the open air and often get dirty.

How to sew a cover on sofas, an armchair

The standard procedure should start with a measurement, whatever you plan to do. This is also used in how to sew a sofa cover or even chairs. After all, we all saw elegant chair capes at ceremonial banquets, and all of the methods listed below can be used in that. The easiest but very effective way to build a pattern is to draw your chair or sofa and break it into simple rectangles. If the product is small, then you can use one rectangle of fabric for the back and for the seat, but in most cases you will have to cut these parts separately.

Using the dimensions of all the rectangles, transfer them to special pattern paper. It has an adhesive base, so working on it will be much more convenient than pinning tracing paper with pins to the surface of the fabric. Between all the rectangles you need to leave allowances, the value of which will be 5-6 centimeters, depending on how confident you are in your sewing skills. You can always cut off extra centimeters in the process of finishing joining parts. The process is not too creative, in fact, and is very reminiscent of a do-it-yourself task - the same strict geometric shapes and simple seams. This stage of the process how to sew a sofa cover photo, found on the Web, you will be illustrated in sufficient detail.

Sew all the cut out rectangles to each other with the seams outward and try on the furniture you need. You will see if the canvas is tight, if you need to release the seam more somewhere, and somewhere, on the contrary, you can hem it so that the fit is perfect. Only after such a fitting, you can already proceed from the outline to the full stitching of all the details.

How to sew a cover on a corner sofa

Before touching the topic how to sew a cover for a corner sofa, we must talk about such an important aspect as choosing the right fabric for this purpose. After all, in fact, not every one is suitable for becoming a convenient and practical cape, and not every one will be able to work effectively right the first time.

It is believed that two extremes cannot be used - a fabric that is too light, requiring additional processing and does not hold its shape well on its own, as well as heavy upholstery fabric, which is used directly for the production of furniture. Light materials include, first of all, satin, chiffon, rayon. No matter how beautiful capes made of such materials look, it’s better to leave them to create dresses, it’s impractical and difficult to manufacture. But upholstery material is mistakenly considered by many to be ideal precisely because it is also used in furniture production to cover structures, which means that it should also be used for covers. But after all, the upholstery is fixed on the surface with the help of a furniture stapler, carnations, it is well pulled literally piece by piece. So this fabric is absolutely not stretchy, you can not pull it yourself on each armrest, and in fact from time to time you will have to remove the product for washing and cleaning. That is why it is better to choose the golden mean - a dense, medium elasticity material, preferably with a special impregnation that will allow the furniture surface to remain clean as long as possible. Before opening, it is desirable to wash, dry and iron any fabric in order to provide for possible shrinkage of the finished product, which can ruin all your work after the first wash.

A feature of the corner sofa is that we will need to cut out a few more rectangle parts. If we compared the previous procedure with sewing half-shells, then this one can be equated with the ability to make, that is, the shape remains geometrically correct, but each part consists of several. You can see the instruction How to sew slipcovers for a corner sofa. A photo demonstrate what the layout should be in order to pack all the right angles.

It is worth spending more time and stitching each seam, treating it with non-woven tape from the inside so that it is clear and even, only then you will get the perfect geometry for a complex-shaped sofa and it will not look like it has been thrown over a blanket and spread a little around the edges . To make the fabric more snug, you can provide a zipper on the back of the sofa to make it easier to remove and re-attach the fabric.

How to sew sofa armrest covers

Often, if you have already bought furniture with high-quality and expensive upholstery, you don’t want to hide it under layers of bedspreads and other materials. It’s not for nothing that you ran around all the shops in the city and looked through hundreds of catalogs, trying to match the color of the upholstery with wallpaper or flooring. Therefore, you may want to protect only the most vulnerable and quickly dirty parts, such as armrests.

Moreover, if you know how to sew sofa armrest covers, then you can change them as often as pillowcases for sofa cushions, timing new upholstery, for example, for Halloween, with pumpkins or black cats, by choosing a fabric with small cockerels and chickens, and not Valentine's Day - with hearts and flowers.

Since the armrests themselves are quite rounded, the fabric with it can peel off very quickly if it is not fixed. In a large case, the parts hold each other, but here you need to provide for an autonomous mount. For it, you can use an elastic band or ribbons that are sewn on the sides and tied with bows, which is an additional decorative element. In addition, you can use Velcro as fasteners, but it is better to always put them under the bottom of the armrest, since the Velcro will get very dirty from above with constant contact and will have to be changed often.

How to sew a cover on a sofa with an elastic band

We are already accustomed to the convenient fastening with an elastic band, which is used, in particular, for the manufacture of bed linen. You can use this technology and learn, how to sew a cover on a sofa with an elastic band.

A rubber band is sewn into the bottom of the already sewn cover and it is she who helps to keep the fabric in place even when several people sit on the seat. The undoubted advantage of elastic bands for fastening is that the finished product can be put on and removed from the sofa for cleaning and washing in just a matter of seconds.

You can find such products in master classes by the name that was assigned to them in the "folklore" - eurocase. In fact, such specific products made of elastic material were once produced by the Italian factory Ga.i.Co., in the image and likeness of which covers other manufacturers began to produce products. But since this is a rather expensive purchase, the craftswomen also learned to do such things on their own, especially since the elastic wrinkled fabric, which is ideal for this, is also not a problem today to buy in a fabric store or order via the Internet.

Since the fabric is quite elastic, it is sewn according to a general pattern without division into small individual parts. And after the front and back parts are sewn, the stretch fabric is simply stretched over the surface of the sofa, tucked a little into the gaps between the seat, back and armrests to form the appearance of the furniture, and hangs down with a pretty fringe.

My Sweet Home brings to your attention a selection of materials on how to sew a sofa cover with your own hands. In the master classes below, you will learn how to sew unique practical sofa covers.

Using a centimeter, measure the backs and armrests of the sofa. According to the obtained dimensions, draw on paper. Do not rush to do everything at once on the fabric. The proverb that it is better to measure seven times and cut only once is very true in this case. A lot of fabric is used on the cover and an incorrectly cut piece will overshadow the whole work. Therefore, it is more practical to first cut everything out on paper and attach it to the sofa, see if the size fits.

The pattern must first be applied to paper

When everything is checked that the drawing fits perfectly, you can start cutting on the fabric:

  • iron the fabric through damp gauze. Cotton or wool fabrics are best washed in warm water. This must be done so that the material shrinks, and subsequently, the finished product does not become smaller;
  • fold the fabric right side inward. Pin the drawings with safety pins;
  • trace the outline of the paper with tailor's chalk. After 1.5-2 cm, draw a second line;
  • cut along the second line.

Details are cut out, you can start sewing.

Sewing

Work begins with a blueprint. The video in the article shows all the stages of work.

  • fold the patterns with the right side inward;
  • sweep with temporary screeds;
  • the resulting cover immediately try on the sofa.

If the result suits, then all seams are ground. Bend all the edges, sweep again, check the evenness along the bottom, then scribble. The stitching will take literally half an hour or an hour. The complexity of sewing is only that the details are voluminous, it is difficult to move the fabric under the needle. When everything is sewn, it remains to decorate the resulting product. Ribbons, pockets will be used. You need to think in advance what kind of ties, fasteners will be. All this should be outlined when cutting.

After decorating, put the product on your sofa. Sewn cover for the sofa with your own hands, ready. You can invite loved ones to see and sit on your favorite, but already a new sofa.
